Tony, the owner of Kentucky Knows, turned his hobby into a business and hand-crafts gifts, accessories and products out of used Blanton’s bourbon barrels. He also sells bourbon and rum barrel coffee. The coffee quality is ok, but the aroma from the bourbon and rum barrels is intoxicating in a good way. If anything, definitely come for the coffee, which will run you about $ 14 a pound after tax. I know I’ll be back. I went to the Distillery District to check out the emerging scene and decided to check out Kentucky Knows and see what it’s all about. The store also happens to be Tony’s workshop, so the floor was appealing stocked with burnt wooden staves and used barrels. He sells everything from cutting boards to lazy susans to a barbecue gas grill fashioned out of an entire barrel. I like to cook, so I was particularly excited to find bags of bourbon barrel char for sale, which can be used to impart phenomenal flavor through smoking or dusting. Definitely come by and see what Tony is all about.
