2 natural caves… Cool. A river and a pretty view of the river, also cool. The tree is his, the misquotation bigger. The trails are poorly marked. Not much of a hike. If you have a back yard with trees or some woods, save yourself some gas money a bug repellent. We love nature walks and hikes, not at boone’s cave tho. There is a foundation is of a keeper’s cabin from the 1940’s. It’s not exactly historic. Big let down. Plus the roads there are tiny. I did enjoy the roads in our convertible… Go to pilot mountain or hanging rock state park if you’re in the triad.

Boone’s Cave, well, I must admit I did online research and was expecting to be underwhelmed. Boone’s Cave by description everywhere is an «8−9 foot cave with a little area on the left that goes on for a few feet» In actuality, it is an easy access, way underused park with a cool little cave. The cave only goes in 10 – 15 feet from the opening, but, if you enter, AND bring a light, the cave goes on for almost 50 feet. There’s no exotic stalactites or anything, but there is a low impact caving experience that’ll give you some cave cred among the common folk. We were visiting when the river was swollen so we were unable to check out the oldest cottonwood tree in the East. There’s also a cool little cemetery on the way, that’ll give you a few minutes of exploration above ground. And don’t worry about the dogs at the cemetery, they’re friendly.
