This place is delicious– can’t go wrong with a fresh, HUGE lunch or dinner. Everything is amazing, from the sauces to the meats and pita. Saw some reviewers saying it’s «pricey»… Not sure what those folks are expecting, but this is as good as it gets for this hungry and poor graduate student.

My oh my, love me an authentic gyro. Closet of a restaurant, but I love to get my food to go. Quaint, delicious, home cooked feel. Highly recommended for a great lunch spot.

My only complaint is being slightly over priced but besides that it’s amazing. The salad is great the gyros are amazing. The roast with potatoes just made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Must try!

I was finally able to have my first experience at Athenian. I ordered the beef stew with white rice which came with a Greek salad. In addition to the stew, I also had dolma, baklava, and Greek coffee. Every part of the meal was full of exciting flavors and spices. I would highly recommend trying this place out if you enjoy Greek cuisine. I cannot wait until the location at the Summit at Fritz Farm opens!

I’ve been here twice. The first time I had the eggplant moussaka and it was delicious. The second time I ordered a Greek salad with chicken added and it was not what I expected to say the least. I asked one of the girls is they had a Greek chicken salad and she just pointed to the menu, which I thought was rude. I didn’t see it on the menu, so I asked if they could make one, assuming it would be similar to every other chicken gyro salad I’ve had. Instead of being the thin grilled style chicken, it was some kind of moist, almost shredded chicken chunks. I didn’t like it all and actually ended up throwing it away. I’ll take part of the blame since I didn’t ask exactly what kind of chicken. But considering that the people are usually pretty rude and never smile and act annoyed when you are there, i will probably not be back. Everyone else seems to really like this place though, so maybe I just chose the wrong thing.

On a cold dark evening, I was waiting for my turn to get a haircut at great clips next door and was wanting to grab a sandwich from subway, to my surprise I saw this Greek place next door and I love gyros. I ordered one of the gyros to go and it was DELISH! fresh ingredient OMG I’m drooling all over myself now typing just thinking about it. Price is reasonable, surprisingly the interior of the restauRant was decorated very Modern and nice, apparently they also serve wine and some sort of alcoholic drinks so it would be a casual and cool place to eat on a date night.

Great greek food! Just make sure you check your bag before you leave if you are ordering To-go. I’ve been shorted several times.

The Athenian Grill sets the bar for authentic Greek/Mediterranean food in Lexington. As a veteran who served in the Middle East and who has ate his fill of rotating grilled meat, this place nails it. The fresh veggie garnishes, hummus, and tzatziki remind me of the better times overseas. Yeah — I was used to shawarma. This place still hit the spot! I’ve eaten at both locations(S Ashland and N. Locust Hill) and both produce amazing quality grub. This particular location is a bit small from a seating and serving standpoint, and they have a smaller menu, but the quality of the food is not reduced in the least. My favorites include the Spanakopita(spinach and cheese pie topped with phyllo dough, served with a side salad) and the Classic Gyro. I work right up the street and though I normally bring food, I eat here when I don’t. If you do order a Gyro, be ready to wear a bit of it. The portions are HUGE! Grab a can of West 6th to wash it down and have a great time.

Had lunch here and loved it. Home-cooked Greek food in Lexington! Tried the classic Gyro and a Greek salad. Their house dressing is unusually sweet, but everything in the salad tasted fresh and the tomatoes were perfectly ripe. The Gyro meat was very good, again tasted homemade and did not look like the stuff roasting on the spit(?). The Tzatziki sauce was rich and flavorful. Looking forward to going back to try the mousakka and other dishes.

The building is a little hard to find as it does not directly on Ashland, but back off the street, on the edge of a parking lot. However it is worth the effort to find, with authentic Greek offerings, that were very good ! The tzatziki sauce on the gyros sandwich was absolutely delicious ! The meat was very flavorful & the gyros was so packed full of meat the top 2 sides of the pita could not be brought together. Also had the Greek salad as a side which was delicious also. Several other sides and traditional offerings on the menu, & they all looked good ! Recommend this place for lunch or supper.

I Meet up @ Athenian Grill for a mom’s night out. The Greek cuisine selection was amazing. I felt like I was back in Santorini. I highly recommend the Dolmaldes, Greek salad, pastitsio, & baklava. I cannot wait dine here again.

This seems like a good place to get a fairly cheap, quick, and filling lunch. I’m generally not a fan of «gamey» meats like lamb so I ended up with a chicken gyro and found it pretty yummy. The pita was heavenly soft and soaked with delicious gyro juices(carbs soaked in flavor = the best kind of carbs), the tzatziki sauce perfectly complimented the gyro’s flavor profile. Although the chicken was a little dry, overall the meal was filling & satisfying. I also tried a little bit of my friend’s lamb gyro and found the flavor of the lamb to be quite nice and mild, so I think if I were to return, that’s definitely what I would try! Ordering is quick and simple. You order & pay at the register and then hang around a bit while they prep your food. There is not a lot of seating(or parking) – there were a few tables inside on the first & second floors and outside on the patio.

My husband and I went here with a friend one of the last times we were in Lexington, and I’d love to visit again. We both enjoyed our gyros. It’s a little tight as far as space inside but luckily, we weren’t there on a busy day.

Thanks for having sold variety in Lexington. I was soo happy what hubby took me here. Started out with truck and now a small restaurant — tells that food is good. There isn’t much sitting but it’s great for carry out and your taste buds will thank you for trying this. Don’t miss!!!

How have I never written a review?! I love it! The classic gyro is amazing. The meat is very seasoned and flavorful and the pita bread is so fluffy and SO good! Everything I’ve had is great. I really like the lasagna looking dish. The prices seem a little steep, but I believe they use mostly local ingredients. Also the staff is super nice and friendly. Athenian Grill makes it into my top 5 restaurants in Lexington.

Overall very good! I love the variety of traditional Greek foods they offer. I ordered the Athenian Lamb Gyro which was very delicious. The meat was really tender & flavorful but was sliced a little too thin for my liking. The restaurant could use a bit more parking spaces. When I pulled up they only had 2 parking spots which were taken by other customers and all the other spots were reserved for the bank next door. Since I went for dinner it wasn’t that big of a deal but it made me a little uneasy not knowing if my car was going to get towed while I was inside.

I had a great lunch here today before the UK v Miss State Baseball game. Very impressed with the quality and taste of my food. I had a Gyros and a Greek salad. Lamb meat was great, cucumber sauce was tasty. Greek Salad had fresh tomatoes and cucumbers and a nice dressing. The other Greek items on the menu looked great, I’ll have to try on my next visit. The restaurant has character, small but well kept. Friendly staff — overall great value. Was a nice day, they have a few tables outside if you’d like to enjoy the fresh air.

I can’t believe I have not reviewed Athenian Grill before now. The setting is a charming, recently renovated house in Chevy Chase. The food is excellent and served in a fast casual setting. The gyros are off the charts. Excellent hummus. Excellent spanakopita. Terrific baklava. Athenian Grill also has a robust catering business. I’ve been to several events that they have catered and everything I’ve had has been first-rate. Ilias, the owner, is a charming guy who is passionate about dishing up authentic Greek cuisine to happy Lexingtonians. We are better off for it.
