I am currently a student at Carnegie Mellon University and am a part of the South Asian Student Alliance that helps put on the annual Bhangra in the Burgh competition that is held here in Pittsburgh. For the afterparty, we were given the option to hire our own DJ for the club that we rented out that year. With most of the target audience for the afterparty being South Asian, we wanted to hire a DJ that caters to this type of crowd. My board and I knew that DJ Umang(who is currently a student here) was a south asian disc jockey. Honestly, my board and I were not too familiar with the South Asian entertainment scene so we were not aware of his reputation. However, because the choice was either him or some amateur djs who are students at the university, it was a no-brainer. Not only as a someone who helped plan this event but also as a fellow attendee, I was very impressed. His equipment(speakers and lighting) is very state-of-the-art and work very well. He is beyond professional, focusing solely on keeping the crowd happy throughout the event. When he dj’s, he doesn’t just focus on one particular type of music, such as bhangra, which a lot of the amateur DJ’s that I mentioned above, do. He will play a wide range, from bhangra to bollywood to top 40’s to even old-school music that you hear at nightclubs. He is very professional and will discuss all aspects of the contract and what services you request of him before both parties sign. He will never take advantage of you. Even if another party requests his services and are willing to pay more money, which was actually the case with our event, he will still not blow you off once he has committed himself to your event. When I conversed with him for a little bit after the event was over, he even mentioned to me that when he dj’s weddings, he usually begins the night by playing bhangra and bollywood music, catering to the more older crowd and then later focusing on top 40 and old school music, catering to the more younger crowd that usually remains later on in the night. It is this focusing on the nitty-gritty of the business that has made him so great at his work in my opinion. He has even lowered his prices for Carnegie Mellon student organizations since he knows they cannot afford to pay top dollar for a good dj. Whether it is a school event, club party, or wedding, masala entertainment will provide exceptional service and will make sure that all of your guests dance the night away!
