Mare’s Bears Quilt shop is a little hard to see because a large tree obscures the sign, but once I got inside I was beyond thrilled. The shop was very well lit and had a «shop dog.» The dog was kind enough to let my children pet him, and also kind enough not to approach me(I’m not a dog person). The poor thing was named after Bill O’Reilly. The shop had a very nice selection of patterns and books as well as thread, but I was really surprised at the large variety of fabric. And when I asked for something specific, the person working was able to put her hands right on it. Another reviewer complained about the prices; I did not find them out of line for good, quality fabric. They were competitive with what I have seen at other quilt shops. If quilters don’t shop at independent quilt shops, they will disappear and we will lose the joy of the serendipitous find and feeling the quality of what we purchase before we purchase it, to say nothing of color matching. Do not miss this shop! It’s a gem.

4 stars for the quality and selection — plus the expertise of the ladies who run Mare’s Bears. 2 stars for the way over-priced fabric(take me to JoAnne’s or Michael’s stat. Meanwhile, our 7 year old fiber artist was thrilled to pieces(quilt-pun intended) with her fat quarter and japanese flower-maker. I have not ONE clue how to do any of this stuff.
