Wine snobs will probably disagree with me simply because the wines at Ardon Creek aren’t named for the grape variety, but this is GOOD wine! Their dry wines are not so dry that they pucker your tongue, but they are very nice dries for dinner. The sweeter wines stop well short of the syrupy stuff that other Iowa wineries are producing. If you like dry reds, taste the Commission Man Red. It’s smooth and very drinkable. It has lots of fruitiness and a bit of a spicy finish. I like it when I’m grilling steaks. For a dry white, the Lace Curtain is my choice. It’s not heavy like Chardonnay can be – it’s a summery, crisp, fruity wine made with local grapes. Every year Ardon Creek produces a really nice Nouveau. I can’t get enough of it! I call it my «gulping» wine because it’s so easy to drink! It has a bright, grape flavor but isn’t too sweet. What a great way to relax in the evening! For dessert, I always reach for the Sweet Reward. It’s a raspberry chocolate glass full of perfection! Ardon Creek is just west of Muscatine and the vineyard is open for tours regularly. You should call ahead to be sure they have someone there to show you around, but I’ve never been told that nobody can be there. This is a GREAT Iowa Winery!
