I came to Northside Cherries for my first ever cherry-picking experience, and I have to say that they are very family-friendly and it’s a great place to take the kids. The trees are big and beautiful with a bounty of fruit and provide shade from the hot sun. They give you great introduction about what to look for, how to pick your cherries and what they have. They’ve got Bing and Rainier cherries, and you can even climb ladders to pick the delicious fruits up high. There are a lot of trees to spread out into, but not so many that you’ll get lost. As a first experience, it’s lovely, and they even have honey available in jars and sticks. We saw one man buy a large box full of jars of honey. It must’ve been really good. I tried a stick of lemon honey, and it was VERY good(5 sticks for a dollar). Great fun!

Blurb from their website: Northside Cherries, a U Pic Sweet Cherry Ranch, family owned and operated since 1986, is located in Leona Valley, California, in the mountains approximately 10 miles west of Palmdale. If you never been out picking your own cherries you got to try this place out. I went last year with a few of my friends and it was the best fun! There is something special as you eat each cherry knowing that you were the one who picked them! Though this place was much smaller than Villa del Sol, it had far better tasting cherries. We came near the end of the season so we got our cherries on a discounted price per pound, I wonder if they are going to that that again this year… It’s best to call their phone number in advance to see if they are open and find out the price per pound before driving all the way out. I was so excited to know they Ranier cherries their my favorite! They also have Bing and Tartarian Cherries. There is a small stand on the property where you can purchase waters and sodas for a dollar or two. This same stand is also where you grab your buckets and also return with your harvest pay after they weigh it. When we asked for scissors, they were able to provided these too! You want to cut the cherry stems so that your cherries stay fresh, also so you don’t damage the tree and the tree can grow new branches. Don’t be afraid of picking too many cherries you can always freeze them. The cherry trees provide shade but wear hats and sun screen. You would never expect cherry trees to grow in the middle of the desert… Because it was near the end of the cherry season, the day got very hot, and toward the end of our trip a couple people in our group were feeling faint. x_X Be prepared to climb tall ladders to reach these cherries, there are a few smaller trees but I think this place is better for bigger kids and adults. Every single person on this ranch is knowledgeable and would be willing to point out the best trees to pick if you ask them.
