I again tried the miso due to a previous comment saying it was«the best they’d ever had» and thinking maybe we’d gotten it on an off day. Nope! Still awful. I ordered chicken and the special beef(I forget what it’s called exactly). The chicken was so bad I just gave up on it, but the beef was ok. The rice was still just ok. Wouldn’t spend my money on it again!

I’ve been wanting to try Ninja Hibachi Express(NHE) for some time now since I drive by it every so often. First, don’t let the outside fool you. It’s about a gazillion times better looking on the inside than it is on the outside. I was surprised by the stark difference in the plain appearance of the restaurant and the warmth of the inside. It’s definitely not what I expected. It was pleasant, decent sized, and very, very clean. I also liked the décor– it wasn’t over the top but it wasn’t sparse either. The majority of the décor were scroll art but it definitely added a warmth to the space. Second, I thought the menu was just going to be hibachi type food. I was, again, pleasantly surprised. They do quite a selection of different combinations of hibachi meals as well as sushi. When I realized they made sushi I was expecting to see just a handful of rolls but for the third time, I was pleasantly surprised. Including the regular rolls and the special rolls, NHE offers 57 types. Onto the food. I ordered two things to-go: hibachi steak and the giant California roll. I wanted to be adventurous with my sushi order but at the same time I didn’t want to pay for the more expensive rolls and be disappointed. What I was thinking was: hey, try some safe and simple food and if it’s good then next time I’ll order something a bit pricier. With all the good surprises I was experiencing I really wanted to love the food. When I took the food out of the bag it smelled great. I started with the hibachi. It was steak with squash and onions, fried rice, and what I believe was steamed carrots. They also included the white sauce/shrimp sauce you get at a traditional hibachi restaurant. I’d actually never really had it before and it was yummy. Overall, the hibachi steak was a success. The carrots were seasoned perfectly and I really enjoyed it. Now the giant CA roll. It smelled really good. But when I went to eat it, it tasted as if the rice had been overly seasoned with vinegar. It didn’t make it inedible. Just less enjoyable. Therefore, my rating is a solid 3 stars because it was A-OK. I’ll definitely be back to try more of the hibachi menu and maybe order a more special roll. Hopefully the over seasoning was just a fluke and my next order will be solid.
