Not bad by any means, but quite average. Menu, average. Ingredients, good. Portion sizes, average. Service, fine. Taste, average.

Went for the buffet with my 12 y.o. &6 y.o. They liked it but all they ate was lo mein, egg drop & egg rolls. I would say that it was pretty standard, boring Chinese buffet food. My hot & sour soup had lots of stuff in it but still didn’t have much flavor. They were busy & often were out if things on buffet. Just wasn’t 4 star worthy.

This was my go to lunch spot while I was working in Lenexa. Your standard Chinese menu, so nothing surprising. Their lunch specials are really where they shine. Easy online ordering and lunch(with soup, rice, and an egg roll) for $ 6 or less. You can also get takeout from their buffet(around $ 8) and stuff your own takeout container with whatever you like. My orders have always been fresh and hot :)

What is with people in JoCo leaving five-star reviews for mediocre Chinese-American joints? This place is family-friendly, and not terrible. I ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken for my daughter. The sauce was yummy like your average sweet & sour, and her chicken was crispy. But the Chicken Fried Rice was so greasy. The vegetables in my Kung Pao Chicken tasted like they were previously frozen, and the meat was gritty… Just your typical cheap Chinese. Nice people. Average food. Good crab ragoons. I’m still on the search for Chinese food that is more authentic.

Ordered carry out shrimp fried rice, chicken w mixed vegetables and orange chicken. Orange chicken actually had a spicy kick to it which I enjoyed. It was all very tasty so I will definitely be eating there again in the future. I also like how you can order different sizes of entrees small or large.

I love this place, they have good authentic chinese food which is what I’m looking for in a restaurants I go. I ate there a few times and they had never dissapoint me before. I love one of their dish, I forgot the name but it has pork, pig stomach, and egg in it, it’s a little spicy but very tasty. Definitely would order from them again!!!

You can order online for carry out or dine-in. You can even choose the amount of spice they add to the hot dishes, or request no onions etc. If you are more adventurous, ask about their special menu. They have a small lunch buffet or you can order otherwise, but the food is always good. My favorite Chinese restaurant.

Amazing service paired with amazing food! I love family owned restaurants like this! I have been looking for a comparable Chinese restaurant from the one I grew up with in Cali– and this one fits the bill perfectly! Things aren’t drowned in overly sweet sauces and vegetables keep their crisp texture rather than soggy! I will continue to go to this place!

I went for the buffet. This is not to be confused with the large, generic Chinese buffets. This is a Chinese restaurant that also offers a buffet. Everything was very good and it was only $ 7.00!!!

This is now my «go to» Chinese restaurant. I also only order off the«Chinese» menu.

Like most of the reviews have said, forego the buffet and ask for the Chinese menu! It may look dingy but the food is pretty legit. Jen Jen and ABC Café still may be my favorite but this place isn’t too far behind. Looked like there was only server but she was pretty efficient. Located in the same square as Panera and Panzon’s, to the right of the liquor store.

Went there about 11:45AM Buffet was fairly full and was maintained. Fresh product brought out every 5 to 10 minutes, Staff was courteous and very quickly to service. Food was fresh and hot, eggrolls were so so could use a new supplier on those. Restaurant was clean and well-maintained. Will definitely be returning. Buffet $ 8.50 per person including soda. Better than their competition just kitty corner from the intersection, and at better price.

It was nice surprise to find a Chinese restaurant that has a traditional menu option instead of just the normal Americanized fair. Definitely go for the traditional Chinese menu.

Don’t let the exterior and interior of this place fool you. They have one of the best authentic Cantonese/Chinese dishes here in KC. Ask for a menu and do not eat off of the buffet. My faves are the beef brisket hot pot, the baked salted chicken, and the seafood flat noodles with black bean sauce. I was a a little disappointed that they stopped making my favorite taro dessert. Service can be slow because there is usually one server, but waitress is still attentive and nice.

Lucky Wok, you sneaky devil, you! You’re so good at hiding the bounty of your deliciousness from us all! In fact, if you really were what you appear to be on the surface, this would not be a four star review. Here’s the secret to unlocking the amazing flavors hidden in this gem: You MUST ask for the«authentic menu» or «Chinese menu.» If you do, you will open up a world of amazing options. There is a fried fish with tomato sauce dish on the authentic menu that is like crack! Once you’ve had it, you’ll want it every time you go. But that would be a mistake because there are so many other great things to try! The seafood delight soup is just lovely. In fact, it’s a delight! If you order it and have fewer than 4 people at the table, you will end up taking some home which I promise, you will not regret. I tried the beef brisket curry dish last night and it was amazing. The brisket itself was a bit tough, but it added a really nice flavor to the curry. The curry is served mixed with these incredible broad noodles that appear to be homemade. Service is friendly and fast, but refills on water and ice tea can be a bit slow. They could use some larger glasses which would prevent the need for refills so quickly. Lucky Wok is on my top 3 list of Chinese restaurants in Kansas City. P. S. There are a few things on the authentic menu that are not translated to English. It’s because they think nobody but Chinese people would even try these items. My husband asked them to translate at one of our trips which led him to order a dish with bung(it is what you think it is) against the waitress’s strong objection(«Americans don’t eat!»). If you’re incredibly adventurous, you can ask for translations!

All of these good reviews got my hopes up for this place. Lucky Wok was a small restaurant with a mini-buffet bar. I met 10 others here and it felt like we were in our corner by ourselves. I had to let someone know that we were ready to order when we were ready for quite awhile. Also, we had a large group and there was another large group as well. It seemed like there was confusion or something as the waitresses thought we had more people when a few people cancelled at the last minute and that caused them to be unhappy. Just something to think about… make sure you don’t have people cancel at the last minute. I ordered the Sauteed Beef Brisket with Seasoned Vegetables($ 9.50) while everybody else ordered their own thing. Then, we all shared and did a family-style dinner. After we ordered a bunch of dishes(probably 9 or so), we all waited what felt like a long time for our first dish to come out. After the first dish came, then it was a steady flow of dishes that came to our table except the last one. The food was okay at best in my opinion and the prices were inexpensive. We did manage to finish everything but I didn’t think it was anything special. One thing I noticed was there was no air conditioner unless they didn’t turn it on when we went. They had a few ceiling fans but those weren’t efficient so it was really warm for most at our table.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurant in the town. Have been eating at there for more than 15 years and going strong. The owner(is also the cook) cooks very good authentic Cantonese dish. I always ask Chinese Menu for Chinese people, so I can get real Chinese. Oh, I always tell waitress: No MSG please, Thanks!(for my health) Every time when we were there, other table’s customer always asked waitress what we had? and they want to order the exactly same dishes like ours. Some customers even can’t wait until waitress to come out from kitchen, just came right over to ask us which we don’t mind to be the ambassador for the owner. We even joking to tell those customer that Lucky Wok IS our kitchen! When owner saw the order we made in the kitchen, she always came out say«HI», greet us. We are very happy to see her every time and ask: how do you know we are here? She said: Of course I know you are here, when I see the order, I know it’s YOU! That means: we really really eat at there a LOT. XD See? How homey feeling it is? Plus authentic, delicious food. That’s why I give them FIVE(*****) STARS.
