I’m no sushi connoisseur, but I like Edokko and we’ve been going here for years. The menu is extensive and I’ve liked everything that I have tried. I love the spring rolls, the tempura, the soups, the bento boxes, everything has been great. Sometimes I just feel the need for a little comfort food and that’s when I like to get a hot bowl of onion or miso soup and a California roll, it’s just so good and fresh. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and I’ve never had an issue with the service.

Great food and good for lunch. Never have had to wait, but food always seems fresh, especially the salmon.

My lunch at Edokko this afternoon was terrific! Not too much, just the right portion size for hubby and me. Quality is good, and price is great. Trust me, I know sashimi, and I know how to get the most for my money — and Edokko is the place for that! I saw some not too good reviews of this restaurant. You all should know that right now, they have new management who has come in and is doing business in a different way than even a few months or even years ago, so I hope everyone who reads this will give them a try again. They now give everyone a customer VIP Bonus Card: no matter how much you spend there, the bonus card will give you 5% reward(no cash value) every time you come in, and you can redeem the reward to your next bill whenever you want to. Chef Thomas is a very experienced Sushi chef. We enjoyed his sushi for more than 15 years at his previous restaurant, which was sold at last November. Now he is helping Edokko’s previous owner to run this restaurant — we’re very happy to see him here. Whether you’ve never been to Edokko, or were an old customer but haven’t been back recently — come back and try Chef Thomas’ sushi/sashimi meal!

Today’s service was very crappy! We came at 2:00 on a Saturday and we were the only ones in the restaurant… the waiter never kept our drinks full and got all of our tickets wrong when we went to pay. Super sad because I always talk about how good this place is and today it was not good at all. Update: after 40 minutes of waiting for the manager to get there because the system was down to pay they did comp our lunch.

3 stars for the sushi rolls and the service was excellent! Drinks from bar… extremely slow… and it was a beer in a bottle. Sadly disappointed in the ramen and noodle seafood bowl(Champon). I so wanted this to be good — — –this is the entire reason for visit. The soup was filled with a lot of wonderful ingredients, however the broth was totally bland. Zero flavor in broth as well as their Miso soup. I brought home most of my seafood ramen and added flavorings to it the next day an easy fix to add flavor. Its too pricey to be serving bland food.

My friend loves this place. Let me tell u they are not the big sushi eating type I later found out due to speaking so highly of this place. Food was decent nothing really screamed come back for me but my crab and avocado salad. MYSALAD !! Ugh. I got the something and mango roll(I forget but it’s fried) with sweet chili sauce that was good. Special spicy tuna roll was put together to my liking. Cooked tuna fillet inside and spicy tuna mash on the top. Problem with this was there was no sauce for it and it was panko city on the plate. It had enough to cover a chicken breast on the side to fry. Last roll was the sweet potato roll(the one my friend adored) and I knew then we are not the same when it comes to sushi lol). It’s rice seaweed and potato mmm nothing else? The prices for some special rolls are ridiculous due to how much you get. Soup was good as it should be anywhere. I got two lychee drinks, one the raising sun and the other eastern lychee martini. This eastern martini is with Smirnoff caramel and for the ladies this is a must have. Please try this. Now the bad. Service was a bit shaky but she was the sweetest. This was a Friday night and it was about half full in this establishment. We were told our food, and I quote«will take 20, 30, to 40 mins» what in the world we had time but to know your kitchen is taking this long and it’s not packed in here I can only imagine the wait when busy. We were offered free edamame for our time. Fried banana and honey dessert for happy hour night is good not amazing though. Should come with ice cream or something. Only thing coming quick is the bill! And even then they take forever coming back to get it so u can leave. Overall decent sushi, drinks are worthy, salads might be your best bet and bathrooms are clean. Have time to sit here and keep your dinner partner awake with good conversation because you will be waiting.

The quality of the sushi was decent(just decent) but don’t fall for the all you can eat scam. They slow play the order. You can’t order a second round until you completely consume the first round(which is limited to 2 basic rolls). This might not be a problem, but we waited 10 minutes AFTER consuming the first round for our server to come back(there was one other occupied table in the restaurant). Then they have to bring back the sushi order form. After that count on another 10 minutes waiting for the order to be picked up. You can tell the staff is instructed to do this because our server did everything possible to avoid eye contact when we tried to make repeat orders. Don’t waste your time … just go to a Chinese buffet that serves sushi … same quality, more sushi.

Edokko does very well with is décor and ambience. The staff is very welcoming and accommodating. The sashimi and sushi is right up there with best places where I have eaten. Very fresh and tasty. The fresh wasabi is flavorful enough that I didn’t have to use any soy sauce. The rolls are very creative and delicious. The kitchen puts out tasty dishes. The very high standards that the previously deceased owner have set are still in place. I wish I had met her when she was still alive. Mrs. Anne, lovingly referred to as «Momma» by the staff and customers, did a great job with decorating and maintaining the business. She managed to create a menu that follows in the tradition of Japanese cuisine in a quiet(or as quiet as any restaurant can be), relaxed, family oriented atmosphere. The specials are spectacular. They allow everyone brave enough to sample another facet of Japanese cuisine. Very clever, Momma. I would eat here again. So should you.

Impeccably prepared and presented sushi, great service, reasonable prices, and very appealing décor. For being in the corner of a nondescript strip mall, this place is worth a try. It might just surprise you, too!

Another amazing Edokko experience. Had spicy scallop(my go to) and the Tokyo kid rolls. Very good, no fresher seafood in town. Fresh wasabi is a must. Also had masago sushi, miso soup and seaweed salad. Washed down with a good green tea and Haiku sake. Good suggestion on waitress(Cindy) suggestion. Hubby had squid teriyaki. Couple with us loved the razor clam, jalapeño popper roll, and volcano roll. Love this place so much.

I’ve eaten here at least 15 times and have never had a bad experience or bad food. The Mexican roll is fantastic and they do fish collar and live scallops very well. Can’t recommend enough going there if you want sushi or good Japanese food in general.

Individual sushi can be a bit on the pricy side but the food was pretty good and good quality. We started with fried calamari which was pretty good. They don’t use the tempura batter but they cook it with panko which leaves the calamari crispy. They gave a weird vinegar dipping sauce that I wasn’t a fan of so I just got spicy mayo as a dip. Yum. For entrees, I got the chirashi which came with a good amount of sashimi on sushi rice. For $ 18 it was pretty good. I wish it had roe but I might be just picky. :p My bf got a rainbow roll. Pretty good.

My boyfriend and I always have a wonderful experience here! The staff is attentive and helpful! The fish is always fresh and they have some great deals when you do a dinner for two or dinner for three or even a sashimi combo! They are always thinking up new rolls and new drinks! The space is spacious and clean! And I hear they are going to add hibachi soon!!!

The restaurant have a huge selection of food on the menu, I spend almost 15 minutes to decide what I want to get. They have very friendly service, the waitress and the manager is very kind and always there if you need anything. However, I have to say this places is kind of expensive, I felt like the sushi is a little expensive. The combo box doesn’t give you as much food as the price you paid for. But I like the way how the food is set up, it looks very attractive.

First time here today and I am very pleased. The server was so sweet, gave us plenty of attention and refilled our water often(which is nice) we ordered two Las Vegas rolls, spider roll, house salad, miso soup and crab rangoon. I was so surprised on how big the Vegas rolls were; because all the other sushi places I’ve been too(I’ve been to almost every sushi restaurant in KC) their Vegas rolls were probably 5 pieces max. But this one gave us plenty! We didn’t even finish our food, boxed it up for later. Overall my experience here was great! Definitely coming back!

Good sushi, great service. This is a great sushi place that also has regular Asian plates and features some Thai food too. The menu is huge but one of my favorite things about this place is that there is a picture book with all the sushi on it so you can see what the roll looks like. You are basically given a stack of menus(I think 5 — specials menu, sushi, sushi pictures, regular menu, drinks/sake). I never stray away from the obvious choices on sushi but it is quality, fresh sushi and doesn’t taste old or anything. We visit this place when we’re craving sushi. It’s the best in the area, hands down.

Meh. Tonkatsu was too bready(my own vocab) and almost tasted burnt. I should have gone with the ramen since that’s what I was in the mood for. Service was mediocre. Not over the top good and not terrible either.

Let me tell you a secret about sushi restaurants. Always call and ask which day of the week they get fresh shipments in, then come in the night of or the following day. This is why experienced sushi foodies never eat sushi on Sundays and Mondays(Shipping companies don’t run on weekends and the Fish Market is closed on Sunday so nothing ships Monday). If you have something special in mind(like fresh jumbo scallops), ask the owner to place an order for your group. Edokko gets their shipment in on Thursdays, so Thursday nights and Fridays are the best days to enjoy fresh sushi here. We ordered the combo sashimi platter, Hamachi Kama, fresh jumbo scallop sashimi, and Spanish mackerel sashimi with fried bones. All the sashimi were very fresh, the tuna was very tasty, and the Hamachi Kama(Yellow tail cheeks — pan fried) were very good. Also, ask for fresh wasabi(fresh chopped Japanese green radish — I hate the instant powder crap). Wash everything down with their house warm sake and Kirin Ichiban to complete the meal. Overall, shockingly good sashimi for a small place in Lenexa. Now the bad. I have to agree with the other Unilocalers. The service here operates at a snail pace, even on a slow Thursday night with only 5 tables(3 wait staffs). This is why family business fail, it is when you hire you kids/nieces/nephew to help run your business. They usually have 0 passions and hate their jobs, running your business to the ground. I hope the owner realizes this and hire professional wait staff. It’s a really nice establishment, I would hate to see it being another restaurant fail statistic. My Patient Unilocalers, please give this place a shot on Thursday and Friday nights. Don’t expect a fast lunch here, so dinner is best. FOOD = 4 /SERVICE = 2 /AVERAGE = 3STARS

I met with a lot of people here and not surprisingly, a couple people didn’t show up and didn’t they tell anybody they couldn’t make it. Fortunately, we were very close to the number of people who said would come and it ended up working. I was the first of the group to show up so I sat at the bar and talked to the bartender. He was a white guy with a great personality. One of the guys that were supposed to meet up came by the bar to wait with me and started up a conversation with the bartender. They really hit it off which may or may not show the bartender’s personality. Anyways, we sat down at our three-tables-combined-together table. Our waiter was cool and had a sense of humor. He explained the sushi menu and anything we wanted from the kitchen would need to be written on the provided lines of the menu. I was pretty hungry so I thought I would be able to order a bunch of food. I ordered a Crab meat with Mango Roll($ 10.50), a Green Devil Roll($ 10.95), a Lenexa Roll($ 10.25), and a Shrimp Tempura Ramen($ 12.95). The Green Devil Roll and Lenexa Roll both had soybean paper instead of seaweed so I decided to try those since I don’t think I’ve had sushi with soybean paper. The food took a very long time to come out and it was probably one hour before our food came out. We all received complimentary miso soup(nobody wanted onion soup) and soon after, we were all just waiting and waiting for our food. The waiter asked if we wanted the kitchen food first since the sushi would take another 10 minutes. We all agreed so we got our food. The Shrimp Tempura Ramen was good and the broth was tasty. It would definitely be enough to make you full but not too full. Our sushi came out soon after. I was full so I was only able to eat a few pieces of sushi. The Lenexa Roll and Green Devil Roll were both okay and I wasn’t really liking the soybean paper. The Crab meat with Mango Roll was good though. The food was decent but the service was pretty slow. Be prepared to wait.
