Giving 5 stars for variety and quality of breads and pastries. Good tea selection. The only thing was that they don’t bake anything on premises anymore– most of the bread comes from Traverse City. Otherwise, a great experience. While there don’t forget to visit a great little gallery next door. We found many excellent paintings by the local artists there. Great bread and wonderful art next door– what is a better spend of 1 hr while on vacation?

Delicious bread! Did not disappoint at all :) Enjoyed the bacon, eggs & tomato panini. The Focaccia bread was the best I have had. Good atmosphere & fun little town to spend some time wandering. My friends enjoyed their breakfast choices as well.

I can not give Stone House any less than five stars after having their white chocolate raspberry scone. I’ve never had a scone quite like it. The coffee was also wonderful. The pecan roll wasn’t anything to write home about, but I’m ok with that. They were pretty busy on a Thursday mid-morning, so we didn’t stay too long, just enough to eat some pastries, then we meandered down the street to the old Fish Town while we enjoyed our coffee.

Love these places! Family owned, food to perfection. We stopped for a late lunch. The staff was pleasant and the café offers a broad selection of sandwiches, salads and soups. Love Panini and enjoyed the Turkey Ruben, comes with chips. My wife had the soup and half chicken salad on Ciabatta. Wish we could have taken some breads back with us! Very Reasonable and quick service!

I have an anecdote that I feel perfectly expresses the spirit of Stone House. I went to the bakery for coffee and a sweet treat for breakfast. I was trying to decide between two different varieties of pastries. They both looked so good I was having a serious moment of indecision. I asked the girl at the counter which one she recommended and she mentioned to me that the rhubarb in one of the pastries had come from her family garden. How cool is that?! My choice made itself. To me this just expressed that small town feel that Stone House has. I really enjoy grabbing some coffee and sitting at the outdoor seating. It is a great place to kick up your heels and watch people roll into town. Also, great breads and sandwiches.

I bought some garlic type of bread at Grain Train in Petoskey. I had to have some more, so I contacted them and ordered some to be shipped. Along with the Asiago Cheese bread. Very good bread, nice and soft, yet chewy. The garlic bread went great with my spaghetti, and the Asiago will go great with my tomato soup! If you can’t make it up there, they can ship it to you.

Our visit was mixed. The sandwiches were rather good – turkey reuben, the leelanau, and the ham, bacon + gouda. The tomato soup tasted more like Hunt’s diced tomatoes; the bacon was flimsy and flaccid; the eggs on the breakfast sandwich needed some seasoning. Also, the staff was ill-prepared to deal with a weekend lunch crowd. There were only a handful of tables and everyone waited quite a long time for their food. From a peek into the crew in the back, they seemed very disorganized and clearly didn’t have a program down to knock out the orders quickly. I’d return; but I’d make sure it wasn’t the last day of my vacation when I’m trying to milk every moment of outdoor activities.

Best bread in the world. I highly advise the trip to historic Leland to indulge in a sandwich.

This place makes surprisingly delicious sandwiches! Also, i hate tomatoes. They are my arch nemesis. For reals. It has been an all out war between tomatoes and me for… my entire life. Somehow…Stone House Bread Café… made me a panini… and this panini contained a tomato that tasted LIKEHEAVEN. I’m not sure how they did it. There was bacon in there and I know that helped, but I have had bacon-laced tomatoes before and they still tasted awful. Whatever magic they worked, it’s crazy. I find myself thinking about those delicious tomatoes all day. Oh and the bread! The bread was great, too ;)

Ok I love bread, the wife and I happen to be back up north to destress last weekend so we stopped in for some bread. we have been come in a couple times a year now for over 5 years but for some reason something changed. the bread just does not seem fresh. read in a review they were bought out by a corp. in TC. you sure can tell. WE did covered Bays Breads in Traverse City before we headed south. now their bread was fantastic

It’s amazing that bread this good comes out of Leland.(I guess the bakery is in Traverse City now, but whatever). Luckily, you don’t have to come here to get the bread; it’s available at grocery stores all over the area. Their ciabatta is probably the best you will ever find. Their baguettes are nothing to sneeze at, either. A loaf isn’t cheap, but the quality is way beyond anything else you’ll get in Michigan – Zimmerman’s included. Their bread makes Panera look like Subway. It’s just as good, if not better, as anything you’ll get at one of those small-town bakeries in France or Italy that you read about in The New York Times. At home, you’ll have to hide the loaf until dinner, because if you leave it out, it’ll quickly disappear, piece by piece. The café here is just fine, with espresso and all its derivative drinks coming out of an automatic, high-pressure, European-style machine.

Very nice store, The smell is mouth watering. one loaf of bread was gone before we got back to the house. Very nice to have a bakery in Leland w/out having to go all the way to Traverse City for a good loaf of bread.

Good breads and coffee. This is the location of the original Stone House Bakery. Breads are baked now in Traverse City and shipped here and elsewhere in Northern Michigan. Prices are for tourists — priced like artisan bakeries in major cities. Sandwiches are nothing to shout about. Recommend stopping here because… its the best(and the only) bread place around these parts.

They make wonderful sourdough breads that fit every menu and taste. Their Cherry Walnut disappears at the breakfast table, North Country makes wonderful whole grain sandwiches and Ciabatta or a Baguette make any dinner special… and thats just a sample! Their small café also makes great breakfasts and lunches and they are the only place in town with Gelato.

Good grief, do these people know how to bake a loaf of bread. I typically buy it at Anderson’s in Glen Arbor and I spend 20 minutes picking out a simple loaf of bread. It’s that good — I agonize over which kind of bread to select! As Ted S. noted in his review, it’s the only bread we buy up here. Such a fantastic addition to Leelanau county, patronize this place. It’ll make you fat and happy.

Best bread. No butter or oil needed, but certainly is tasty with those additions. Enjoy the soups. Love LOVE the sticky buns. I recommend all breads, but the sweet baguette, paired with some quality cheese, is a meal of its own.(Seriously. You’d could polish off an entire loaf on your own if you’re not ashamed.) And the ciabatta. As toast with real butter and/or homemade jam or to sop up your saucy dinner.

Stone House Bread is a great little place with a very cool atmosphere. The bread is wonderful(my favorite is ciabatta), and they make some really nice sandwiches with it. They also serve up some of the best coffee in the area. Get what sounds good and enjoy it outside, then wander next door to the art gallery! Whenever we’re visiting the Leelanau Peninsula, we get all our bread from Stone House Bread.
