To say that I was disappointed with my experience here would be an understatement. My family decided to purchase a Red Velvet Cake from Best Friends Bakery for the holidays. It was to be our primary dessert after Christmas dinner. Upon getting the cake home, I noticed that while the top of the cake looked immaculate, the sides did not appear to have enough frosting on them, with the cake showing through the frosting in several places. Still, my only concern was with how the cake tasted, and I couldn’t wait for that first bite. I and my Dad decided that we didn’t want to wait until Christmas dinner to try the cake, so we cut into it shortly after dinner on Christmas Eve. The expressions on our faces after our first bites must have said it all… this had to be the driest cake that we had ever tasted. We tried to take a few more bites of the cake, before we both wound up throwing the remainder of what we had cut in the trash. Perhaps my expectations are a bit high, but for $ 35 I would expect to get a good cake, not one that tasted like it had been made a week or two earlier. I have actually gotten moister and tastier Red Velvet Cakes prepackaged at Kroger and Walmart, for a third of the price. Unfortunately for us, we didn’t try it until well after the bakery had closed for the holiday, so we wound up spending $ 35 for a cake that just went in the trash. Chalk it up as a lesson learned. Neither I nor my family will be buying anything else from Best Friends Bakery.
