The name of the restaurant should have changed when new ownership took over. I always enjoyed coming here and was shocked how different of an experience I had recently. First was about a month ago when I went for lunch with a few colleagues from work. After raving about their gnocchi, I was disappointed to see a different gnocchi dish — I ordered it anyway and was disappointed. One of my colleagues ordered a pizza and it easily could have been from a grocery store frozen food section. Service was excruciatingly slow — especially for lunch as it should’ve been clear we didn’t have hours to spend waiting around. I decided to go back again for dinner with my wife and was hoping for a better experience. At least this time I knew to skip the gnocchi… We had calamari, which was fine, but nothing to get excited about, I had a pasta with crab in it and my wife had scallops and shrimp. Everything was fine — but not to the level from previous visits. Upon reading other reviews, I saw reference to a new owner. After googling, I saw an article that the restaurant had changed hands. I know restaurants do change ownership — and if you’re going to keep things the same way, then by all means, keep the same name. But if you’re going to change things enough that you’re fundamentally changing the experience, then just rename it. Maybe I’d be more open if I thought I was going somewhere new and that could even help generate initial buzz with a new place, but right now I feel like there was a bait and switch.

Husband and I went here Saturday night with another couple and a couple of Groupons. FYI — you can only use one per table, even though we specifically asked the server before we ordered and she said it was OK. She said she thought we gave her 2 copies of the same Groupon. Really? They went ahead and let us use both, but it took a bit of convincing. Didn’t really affect my rating either way. Just FYI. Our server was very nice and we received good service. Water filled frequently, food came out quickly, crumbs cleared off table between appetizer and meal. She answered any questions we had and was very personable. Us gals each ordered a wine flight(3 small glasses). I had the white flight($ 12) and my friend had the red flight($ 15). Both were good and a reasonable price. The guys had mixed drinks that were fine. Didn’t look at the prices for those. For appetizers, we ordered the Bruschetta($ 14) and the Frito Misto(calamari-rock shrimp)($ 12). The bruschetta had 4 different toppings. I didn’t try them all, but I liked the ones with goat cheese and the Mozzarella. The calamari had a light fried batter and the dipping sauce was really good. Overall, the flavors and quality of the food was very good. The portions were relatively small for dinner, and the cost was a bit high for what you got. For entrees we ordered: * Seared Day Boat Scallops and Gulf Shrimp($ 24). My husband ordered this and the portion was small. It’s a good thing we had appetizers. Tasted good, but there were only a couple of scallops and a few shrimp. * Short Ribs($ 22) — very good flavor, probably the only entrée that was a reasonable portion. Came with greens which I didn’t like, but that was just me. * Trofie($ 22) — This is Lobster Mac and cheese and was a small portion. It is very rich, so you can’t eat a ton of it. It was good for a taste but not sure I would want that as my entrée. My friend loved it, however. * Friend’s significant other ordered a pork tenderloin. I never saw it on the menu so it must have been a special. He thought it was good except for the brussel sprouts. His wife ate those :) We would probably go back, but might just go for drinks and some appetizers in the bar. The atmosphere is very nice and I really liked the food, it just seemed sort of pricey for what you got.

I went here for my birthday it is a beautiful restaurant however the only thing keeping this from being a 4 or a 5 is the prices and the crowd which I fully acknowledge might have been fault. Which is why I went back during lunch a few weeks later before writing this review. I had the lobster Mac and Cheese which was delightful As well as the crab cakes appetizer. The crab cakes appetizer is too expensive for the portion that needs to be addressed. That being said it was very flavorful and you could tell that the crab was more crab than cake which is always appreciated. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was the best, It has crushed red pepper which provides the perfect amount of kick I will say that the portion was large and so far this is my favorite Mac and Cheese that I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was very lovely though it seemed like they were just cramming everyone into the place. I guess I can’t complain about it being busy right? Overall a great restaurant but the prices are just too high to make it must attend. I would say try the lobster mac and cheese because it is soooo worth it, but I don’t even want to risk paying incredible money for something less which is why I’ve gotten it both of the two times I’ve ever been there. Restrooms were very well kept as well.

My husband and I went to Trezo Vino on Saturday night, and although we had heard less than stellar reviews, we decided to give it a try since I had purchased a Groupon. We made a 7:00 reservation, and we seated around 7:15, which I think is acceptable(although not exceptional). Let me start by saying the food was okay – we had the Calamari appetizer, the Scallops, and the Short Ribs. Our appetizer was huge, however the calamari was extremely dry and I was quite grateful they served it with a sauce to overcompensate. Our entrees were both«okay” – a little on the small side, and we were both hungry when we left. Now, what really RUINED the experience for me was the terrible service. Our server was Kevin, and immediately he asked if we were dining with a Groupon. Upon my surprise at his abrupt question, he elaborated that he was asking upfront b/c he just has a horrible experience with another person with the Groupon who didn’t understand the menu choices. I told him that may be because it was written a little funny, and his response was«I dont mean to be argumentative, but no it wasn’t». Okay, Mr., its your tip at the end. He was incredibly rude throughout the rest of the meal, and even interrupted me mid-bite to ask for my groupon voucher(during the appetizer – he couldn’t have gotten it when he took the plate?). Throughout the whole meal he was condescending, rude, and frankly, ruined the entire experience for us. It blows my mind that management would opt to run a Groupon(with the intent bringing in new customers), and then would treat those customers like they are«lesser». If you weren’t going to treat us with the respect we deserve when we do utilize the voucher, why even bother doing the Groupon in the first place? I will never, ever go back.

This was my second time here since the Garrelts’ took over operations of Trezo Vino. My first experience was very good in regards to food, atmosphere, and service. This time around, not so much. We had a larger party of eight people and were sat right by the open kitchen. It took a little while to be greeted, but when we were, it was military style. Our server, Fred, yelled at the top of his lungs that he needed our attention, basically just to introduce himself, then take drink orders. After about 15 minutes, drinks arrived and we placed an order for appetizers once we could flag down Fred again. The appetizers were good, best thing we had was the bruschetta four ways. We placed our wine and dinner order at that point. Here are a few downers, when Fred brought the wine(we ordered three bottles) he opened them before he got to the table. He didn’t present the bottle to confirm it’s what we wanted. Two big no no’s in wine presentation. The other is that he didn’t pre-bus the table at all. We were stacking our side plates and empty glasses on the end of the table and they were eventually picked up by a manager. Overall, the food was presented very well, but was only average outside of the short ribs. Service wise, Fred was friendly, but not at the end. We split the check up and he got all sorts of drinks mixed up on other people’s tabs that we kindly pointed out to him and asked if he could correct them. Fred’s response was that he wasn’t going to switch anything else. I asked what I was supposed to do since I had about $ 40 of mine on another time, he said, «you can figure it out.» My guess is that he had already added gratuity and he didn’t want to go have to do it again. So, take the inconvenience off the server and put it on the customer? It’s not like I’m expecting service or paying for it. I digress. A few people at our table said they wouldn’t be back, but I’d give them another shot based on my first experience. I wouldn’t have Fred as a server again though.

Reading all the other reviews, I’m very surprised that there are so many high remarks. We purchased a Groupon to try out Trezo Vino since we had never been there before. We had the crab cakes as a shared plate, which were bland, but okay. We had the Trofie, which was good, and the Seared Day Boat Scallops and Shrimp, which were very dry and extremely small. We also ordered the side of lobster tail that was very small and dry as well. We were very disappointed that even with the groupon, we still paid over $ 50 for our meal, one glass of wine(which was Amazing) and two beers. If you are going to just have an expensive glass of wine, you are in the right place, but I cannot imagine going in and paying over $ 100 for what we ate, still making a stop at a fast food restaurant on the way home. I won’t be making a trip back to Trezo Vino.

Went to Trezo Vino Saturday(8÷20÷11) for dinner and were disappointed. It was a nice night so we sat outside which was great, but it turned out we were our server’s only table outside. This wasn’t too bad but could have been better. We started out with the calamari which was really good. Large portion and cooked perfectly with just a light delicate batter. For dinner I had the Osso Buco and my wife had the Chicken Picatta. Osso Buco was good and moist, but a very large portion(theme) and I only ate half of it. The rapini over the top was almost an after thought. And there was quite abit of ah jus and little in the way of orzo. Would have prefered smaller portion of osso buco with less ah jus and more orzo. My wife’s Chicken Picatta looked like two portions of fried chicked stacked on top of one another. What little picatta sauce there was, was absorbed by the fried chicken and the chicked was dried. It was obvious they had been pre-cooked and then set out for the next Picatta order. And it took 2 hours and 15 minutes to serve us an appetizer and entrée — no dessert. Good thing we enjoyed the Italian red, but then again our glasses kept running dry b/c it took so long. Overall, very disappointed. We went to Trezo Vino b/c Colby & Megan Garrelts the owners of bluestem are now the Exec Chefs of Trezo Vino. Would suggest the Garrelts get more actively involved in the cooking at Trezo Vino if they are going to assocaite their name with it. Huge portions that are overcooked and take forever to arrive just won’t cut it in Leawood!

Went out the other night with three of my best girlfriends for a late birthday dinner(Happy Birthday to me! Happy Birthday to me!). We met about 7:30. First, the server was a stunningly handsome young man who should have been modeling underwear or swimwear. You get the picture. A very tall drink of water. He was personable, polite but a bit insecure and a tad shy but in a brooding, magazine-model way., and I later found out he had only been on the job a week. I had to ask for a cocktail menu several times and it turns out the menus were in the chair and then I was looking at it and poor HotServer just stood there like a toothsome deer in the headlights, looking totally confused until one of my GFs figured it out and showed me where the coctails were. He was not helpful at all and acted like he really didn’t know what he was doing. So, I ordered a blue something… and later(much) a pink something came out. It was tasty enough but it wasn’t what I ordered but what the hey. It hit the spot and we all got to see HotServer again. HotServer would disappear and and then just as we were starting to get miffed at his lack of attention to our gastronomical needs he would float into our midst like a heavenly vision of masculine perfection and hearts began to melt. Well, let’s get back to Earth. Perty don’t cut it when yer hungry! Like I said, HotServer needs to take up a modeling career or join the Chippendales or something but a decent server he is not. Besides, we later noticed he was spending all his«down» time watching a football game inside(did I tell you we were dining al fresco? probably not…) on the TV at the bar. Aha! That’s where he went! We thought he was standing in front of a mirror making sure there were no wrinkles in his clothing and that his pecs were perfectly accentuated by the way the shirt fell on his chest. Alright. Enough hassling the help. I’M KIDDINGSERVERS! Love y’all except when you’re not paying attention to ME! Ok, let’s talk about food. NO wait, atmosphere first. Nice night outside for eating al fresco. Until a woman on a phone behind us started hollering at another woman who was half a block away. One of my GF’s politely turned to the cacophonous diner and asked her to be quiet. I said, «you go girl…» while I was cracking up. I thought the out-of-doors atmosphere was very refreshing and fun. Indoors seemed loud and a bit garish but I think I could have stood it. Okay, now the food. I ordered the lobster mac and it was flawless! Nice chunks of perfectly cooked, sweet, lobster with pasta with white cheddar and herbed crumb. OMG! melted in my mouth! One of the best things i’ve had in a while. The Caesar salad was a disaster. About five inner leaves of Romaine and white anchovies(blech!), pecorino, crispy bread. Now, I like anchovies incorporated in the Caesar Dressing but this dressing(more like a vinatigrette) on the leaves of lettuce with the white anchovy carcasses stewn over it made the salad smell like it just got dredged up out of Indian Creek and I did not appreciate that odor or the taste. What a waste of money for a poorly prepared and I do mean poorly prepared, salad. What is it with Kansas City restaurants and skimpy, lame dinner or Caesar salads? For Pete’s sake Margaret! BTW, the ahi tacos are scrumpdillyishus! Great crispy little taco shells packed full of ahi, wasabi crème fraîche, jalapeño slaw, guacamole, man did that hit the spot! Perfect fish tacos! Now for dessert, we had a coffee flavored custard or whipped crème with brandied cherries and some coffee flavored cookies all nice and light and tasty. We all shared. Nice end to the meal. Overall, I will be back. Hopefully, HotServer will have found a situation for which he is better suited.

I’ve dined at Trezo Vino ~10 times over the last few years. It’s an interesting place that I always enjoy but the menu is fairly limited so I shy away from Trezo Vino for business dining. That being said, if you find an appealing menu item, it will likely be very good! The flatbreads are always tasty and I really enjoy the gnocchi, pork ragu and especially the scallops. I know great scallops from the time I spent working in Digby, Nova Scotia which is where a large number of scallop fishermen are based. Good scallops are hard to find in KC and Trezo Vino always have superb, fresh ingredients. Trezo Vino can get pricey when shared plates, entrees and wine is added to the bill. Expect to spend at least $ 50/person, that number goes north quickly depending on the quality/quanity of wine ordered.

Trezo Vino is one of those spots that we forget is there w/all of the new choices popping up around Town Center Plaza area and downtown but when we go there we’re reminded that they really do have a good thing going. Their service is always spot on, the food is consistently above average to outstanding and the atmosphere is swanky and intimate. They have a great wine list(w/o being too over the top like some wine bars that have a wine list so long you get lost in it). We really enjoy their diff wine flight options(reds & whites for various palates and price ranges). Highlights on food: Cheese & Charcuterie app(nice selection of cheese & meats) Truffled Hand Cut Fries(sinful) Ahi Tuna Tacos(love the wasabi crème fraiche Braised Berkshire Pork Shank(wild mushroom risotto and pork shank are both amazingly rich and tender; perfect combination) Fresh beignets covered in powdered sugar and served w/berry dipping sauce and warm caramel(sooooo good). Great date spot in JoCo, recommended.

Better than most any other choice for decent bistro food in the area. Food is good to excellent, well presented. I’ve stayed at the Aloft next door to visit family twice and have eaten here on two occasions. On our last visit: Our service was very spotty. There was some confusion around who was serving us, or a shift change or something. So we sat abandoned for some time. However, once it was realized that we were not pleased, they quickly rescued our evening and good time was had by all. Especially yummy was the truffle infused gnocchi.

Two nights ago, we had an AMAZING meal at Trezo Vino. We had never been to Trezo Vino before, but since it was KC Restaurant Week and they had an awesome menu planned, we decided to go for it. For appetizers, I got the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake and husband got Ahi Tacos. Husband’s tuna tacos included a wasabi guacamole and my crab cake sat in a buttery sauce with a microgreen salad on top. Both were SO tasty. I chose the Seared Diver Scallops for dinner, and husband got Steak Frites. The Steak Frites was the star of dinner. It came with truffle fries(which weren’t as good as the Burger Stand in Lawrence) but the ketchup was really good. My scallops were cooked really well and delicious and the accompanying potatoes were pretty good. The scallops were NOT a normal staple on the menu. Everything else we had for dinner WAS on the menu. There were only two dessert options, so we got one of each. The Chocolate Pot de Crème was good, but not outstanding. The Blackberry Cobbler was so good, that I wish we’d gotten two of them. Husband also got the wine pairings to go with the meal. The server we had was very friendly and helpful. We got a nice table overlooking the main drag of Park Place, which currently is studded with light-adorned trees. It was a great night. During Restaurant Week we got an excellent deal compared to their regular prices, so I can see where it’s a bit pricey overall if there isn’t some sort of promotion going on.

This place is swank and it feels good the second you walk in the door. The décor is contemporary and the wine list seems endless. The menu has a nice selection from appetizers to dessert. I booked my company holiday lunch here and was able to participate in a tasting, so knew we would have the perfect selection for our party. We have several vegetarians, so I made sure to taste the vegetarian entrée and it was perfect on the day of the tasting. I communicated how important this was to the GM since the vegetarians have felt slighted the last two years at other venues. He understood and put the chef right on it. The perfectly seasoned and grilled vegetables were served over a bed of Risotto with a nice garnishment of asparagus and a delicious butter sauce. When I arrived for our corporate lunch, the room was set up as requested. Our personal menu was on the table and the appetizers were very good. We had a fruit, nut, cheese and meat tray along with two varieties of bruchetta. The menu consisted of a choice of salad or the tomato soup. The soup was delicious and the presentation elegant. We had the choice of a filet mignon, grilled chicken, grilled salmon or the vegetarian risotto. I ordered the filet and it was very good. I am not sure how the salmon or the chicken was, as I did not try it or think to ask those that did. The filet came with a goat cheese pancake that was very tasty. I had bragged to the vegetarians about the risotto and was actually excited about their meal finally being up to par. I was stunned where their bowl of risotto was placed in from of them and not to mention embarrassed. It looked nothing like what I had at the tasting. And they all asked for salt and pepper(which was not on the table), so I knew it was not up to par. I offered to order them the goat cheese pancake which came with my filet and only one took me up on it. Another person told me it was good, so I am not sure if he was being polite or just nice. Our dessert choices were crème brûlée and hot chocolate cake. The crème brûlée was chocolate and I was disappointed since this was not what I ordered at the tasting. The chocolate cake was nothing special either. I did think to try both :) I spoke to the GM about the disappointing vegetarian option and also the chocolate crème brûlée not being what I ordered. He did everything he could to accommodate us and I appreciate his efforts. The lesson learned here is to make sure I call ahead the day before and speak to the chef about the importance of the meal being up to par. I am sure something got lost in the translation from the day of the tasting to the day of the event. I will go back because of their efforts to rectify the situation.

Trezo Vino is a wine bar and restaurant with a large offering of sharable plates, a highly customizable cheese/charcuterie board, a few flat bread selections, and for those who are not in the mood to share, several large entrées. Six of us dined here for a family member’s birthday and it was a terrific experience. We enjoyed ourselves from the moment we walked in until the time we left two hours later. The restaurant area is nicely decorated with interesting lighting and walls of books and wine racks. Other reviewers felt that it was a pretentious setting, however, I felt that it was suitable for any type of crowd. During our visit, there were patrons in business suits, families with children, and young fashionistas. The members in our party sported different styles of dress and none of us felt out of place. Our server, Fred, was attentive without being overbearing; engaging without being too personal. He explained the menu thoroughly and confidently answered all our questions about the dishes. He kept our wine and water glasses full throughout the meal and could frequently be seen walking by to make sure we looked satisfied. Among the six of us we ordered the following«to share» items: lobster mac and cheese, tuna tartare, the bruschetta sampler, short rib ravioli, ahi tuna tacos, roasted beet salad, cauliflower soup, margarita flatbread and crab cakes. I’d love to tell you about each and every dish but I will spare you the time and just tell you that everything was mouthwatering and delicious. I did not personally sample each item but the contented sighs and and«ooooooooos» during the meal said it all. Of the plates I did try, the star of my show was the lobster mac and cheese. I do not have the words to describe it but instead will simply demand that you order it when you visit. For the finale, Fred brought out the Trezo Towers with six spoons so we could all share. The mouse and berry-filled chocolate lace cylinders were the perfect combination of airy, crunchy, sweet and fruity. The rich taste of the two towers were just the right amount for six people to share after a big meal. After our check was paid and we were on our way out the door, the three ladies in the party(myself included) thought it might be a wise idea to stay for just one more glass of wine. We wandered over to the bar/lounge area with our three somewhat willing male accomplices and took a seat. Looking around that area, you’ll notice a very large bar and lots of comfy couches and chairs arranged in groupings that promote conversation and cozy get-togethers. Much to our male companions’ delight, there were several TV’s playing the evening’s hottest sporting events. As we three ladies warmed up to our glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, we found ourselves being entertained by the stories of our friendly bartender: another welcoming, friendly character for Trezo Vino to add to their strong hand of employee cards. I’m delighted to give Trezo Vino a five star review. My only regret is that I live in Columbus and can only visit once or twice a year. Amen.

I’ve eaten here three times, since it’s convenient to the Aloft, where I’ve stayed when work brought me to Leawood. I can say that the service at Trezo Vino is excellent. From the top down, this place seems to reinforce taking care of customers.(As for customers, it’s best to ignore some of your fellow patrons; this place attracts a fair amount of obnoxious, pretentious bourgeois.) …which makes it hurt a bit to say the food is merely«meh.» They try so hard to please and a few things are very good(lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, for example). Overall, though, the dishes are over-sauced and either over-cooked or under-cooked, rarely in the middle(you know, where the baby bear’s porridge was: just right). I could readily recommend this place for happy hour or drinks with friends. There is a very good wine list and decent appetizers. The staff, again, is excellent. However, I recommend you pass on a full meal here until the food catches up to the service.

Chic bistro with some very stylish food. The interior was a bit noisy on the Saturday night that we were there, but the patio table was quite pleasant. Our server Dallas was attentive & friendly, suggesting various small plates to share. Delicious bruchetta was only slightly marred by the overdone toast — my date complained that everything tasted burnt — crab cakes, on the other hand, were perfect. When Dallas learned it was my birthday, he presented us with their signature dessert, the Trezo Towers(two dessert cups, perfect to share with a date) — a chocolate/white chocolate/mousse/berry extravaganza that was nothing short of a taste of heaven. Next time, I may have to order the ahi, it looked delicious! We will definitely return!

Lunched at the bar and had the grilled salmon salad. Perfectly grilled asparagus, obviously very fresh high grade salmon, cooked flawlessly. Moist and well flavored, a great mix of greens, home made dressing. Outstanding and an excellent value. Added a bit of lemon to the dressing, needed a tiny bit of salt-but I would much rather add since you cannot take it away. Impressed:)

Stopped in on my last night of a week-long trip in Kansas City. Probably a perfect end to the trip. I sat a the bar and enjoyed a glass of Rioja and snacked on some Ahi tartare before another glass of Rioja and my main entrée which was a Berkshire pork chop. The Rioja, ahi, and pork were all very very good. I decided to stay for desert, which was a definite highlight; carrot cake bread pudding topped with cream cheese ice cream. One of the bartenders poured me a glass of hungarian white to compliment the desert. And compliment it it did. As if the food and drink wouldn’t be enough to bring me back, the bartenders were also friendly and attentive, offering good advice on food and friendly conversation. I also met one of the partners and discussed the merits of recent vintages of Duckhorn as well as some recent offerings from the Turley estates. Let’s see: Great food, a bar to eat at(a must have for business travelers), and friendly and knowledgeable staff. You can bet I’ll be back if I’m in the area!

We were about 15 minutes early, but we were seated right away. We were seated in this back room that held the wine lockers. It felt disconnected to the sexier and darker part of the restaurant. The lights in the wine room were too bright. I think this is where they sit the over 60 crowd(hence the brighter lighting) because we were the youngest table back there. Acoustics were bizarre, because could hear every word spoken by the 2 four top table on each side of us. We waited a good five minutes before we received a greeting or water. We saw him run by several times, never letting us know he would be with us in a minute. In fact, he ultimately hid from us during most of our service. We poured all of our own wine and had to ask another waiter for more water. I was disappointed to see that they moved the annoying blue water glasses from Trezo Mare to Trezo Vino. I say annoying because the blue color makes it impossible for servers to tell when you need more water. But, if someone is at least checking in with your table every once in a while, this is not such a problem. We caught the waiter peeking around the curtain at us but he never once asked us about the food. Good thing, since it was mediocre at best. The sauce served with the calamari & spring rolls was excellent, but the food lacked basic salt and pepper. In fact, the waiter did NOT recommend the ahi taco’s because they are so spicy. Spicy? I love spicy, so we ordered them. They were incredibly bland and didn’t contain any spice what so ever. What the hell? What happened to this place? We passed RA on the way back to the car… bummer we didn’t just go there. Service may only be marginally better, but at least they serve up some flavor.

Trezo Vino, the new sister restaurant of Briar Cliff’s Trezo Mare, offers a similar menu of eclectic entrees that all have one thing in common– they are bursting with rich flavors, are presented with bright enticing colors and generally accompanied by at delicious glass of wine. Set in the new Park Place development, Treso Vino is the crown jewel. The insight is warm and inviting, with a vast array of seating options accented by a big wooden bar that doubles as a buffet table on Sunday mornings. The wine selection has been carefully crafted to cater to anyone from novice wine drinkers to master sommeliers. There is a selection of sparkling wines, as well as several tasteful wines by the glass. The morning buffet, is fantastic and extensive– the full bar is adorned with traditional breakfast fixings(eggs, bacon, sausage, etc…) and continues on to offer assorted fruit, vegetable and sweet concoctions. Cold and warm alike, there is something for everyone. As if that weren’t enough, the other side of the bar room had a made-to-order omelet bar set up. In order to get my money’s worth I felt I had to sample a little of everything… and did. My only mistake was not wearing pants with an elastic waistband!
