«Fresh blue crab on Fridays!» That’s what brought me there and even thought it was a Saturday, they still had live crabs. This is a tiny shop, not a seafood market, a tiny shop that happens to sell seafood. It’s stored in chest freezers and refrigerators and not at all well displayed but I’m sure that’s something they will improve as time and finances permit. The crabs were indeed fresh and still kicking. I also bought two pounds of frozen shrimp. I thawed them out and they were excellent. Though previously frozen, they still had the texture and smell that you would associate with shrimp just pulled from a cast net. I’m can’t really comment on their other offerings as I do not cook a lot of Asian or Caribbean food but the shop looked clean and tidy with a wide variety of items. The lady who helped us(I assume was the owner?) was really friendly and cheerful. I will certainly be purchasing my seafood from them as it is better quality than I have seen anywhere else in town.

If you are looking for ingredients for Caribbean dishes in Lawton, this is it. It was very pleasant to find this resource in such an isolated area. The next best thing is a few hundred miles away. They had Caribbean style curry powder, ripe plantains for frying, red skin sweet potatoes, pigeon peas etc.

A very small store that you would miss when driving on Sheridan Rd — between Andrews and Irwin Ave. It is behind a fast food store called«Church’s fried chicken». I can’t say that Mabuhay has everything that you want for a Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean food or whatever«weir» Asian ingredients that you need. What I mean are stuffs like lemongrass, thousand years old egg, black chicken, duck tongue, etc. However, they have sauces(like fish sauce — the good kind OK?, not those crappy one that you might see in American market, hoisin sauce, Maggi soy sauce… yum), mix(for curry, Thai soup base, Adobo), noodle for Phở(Vietnamese beef soup), salted fish that no other market in Lawton has. In addition, they are having blue crap every Friday.(However, I heard that the crap is small.) That is the positive side. The only negative thing is the price. Maybe I am still used to California price for grocery since I paid 99 cent or less for shallot, ginger, or cilantro. There are many more stuffs that Mabuhay has but I don’t remember so go check it out and let’s cook some«weir» Asian food but … delicious.
