PLEASEGOSOMEWHEREELSE… Worst movie theater experience! Movie started 20 minutes late and whoever is operating the projector couldn’t get the sound to play!

Sticky floors, non-reclining seats, small, and funny smelling. This is not my favorite theater in Lawton but my husband prefers this to Carmike(idk why). The primary reason for going to this theater is the proximity to our house.

The main advantage this theater has is one of location. Not just in the mall, but part of the entrance to the mall. Even better, it is a part of the food hallway, so it is easy to grab food and a movie without wandering all over the mall. Of course, being a part of the entrance can also be an issue. There are times that the line for the box office completely fills the space, so if you are just trying to get the mall, you find yourself pushing through the line. Not awful, just in the way at times. This is a Starplex cinema, and they have a loyalty program, but no true specials at the concession stand. They do have a kid’s pack, though, so for $ 6 you get just enough popcorn, a fun pack of M&Ms and a 12 ounce drink. Not a bad deal, and every once in a while the cups feature a theme and are fun to take home. The screens at this theater are clear, but small. The main issues here are the chairs, which are not comfortable, and the sound, which is a bit muddled in some of the theaters. This is partly because the sound leaks between the theaters, so plan to see a loud movie here or to hear bits of the loud movie playing in the next room.

Staff is friendly, and location is good. The theater itself is older & small, but I went to see a movie and that’s what I got, so that’s positive, right? :)

Well priced, military discount tickets & Tuesdays is even cheaper. Small theaters(which I like!) and clean. Sound was okay, and I think they still use actual film. I’d go back if I was on that side of town.

I like this movie theater. It’s definitely made some serious improvements over the past few years in terms of projectors and sound systems. Some of the screens are definitely pretty small, but I’ve never found myself too bothered by it. As mentioned in previous reviews, the location is perhaps the biggest advantage as Carmike is way out on the west side of town.

March 2010 Update The Central Mall 12 theater would be better if it hadn’t been for moves made by the former owners of Central Mall. When the Dickinson Theatres Central Mall 12 was originally built, it was made under the financing of the Warmack company that owned Central Mall. Dickinson originally intended all 12 theaters to have great quality film projectors and 5.1 digital surround sound in all auditoriums. But since the mall authority was paying for it lots of corners were cut. The theater opened with film projectors about as cheap as could be purchased. Only 2 of the 12 theaters were equipped with digital surround sound. Years later little has changed. The lack of upgrades has caught up with the mall theater. The Carmike 8 on the west side of town installed 6 additional DTS players in 2001, making the complex an all-DTS site. In late 2004, the Carmike 8 converted all 8 screens to stadium seating. In the fall of 2006, the Carmike 8 added Christie 2K digital projection systems to all 8 screens and later added Real-D digital 3D systems to 3 theaters. Update: the Central Mall 12 theater now has 1 screen equipped with Real-D 3D and 2K digital projection. Modern stadium seated theaters –built from the ground up for stadium seating– have very high ceilings of 30′ or more. The stadium seating at the mall theater is more like high school gym bleacher seating. And only a portion of most auditoriums is sloped. The back portion. The front several rows in most rooms is flat on the floor. The Central Mall Theaters’ screens are pretty small in relation to the size of the seating area. It’s not quite as pleasing as the balance of screen size to seating area out at the Carmike theater. If you do manage to catch a new movie on one of the two largest auditoriums equipped with DTS, it is a luck of the draw on whether the crew there has bothered to load the DTS movie audio CD-ROM discs into the DTS-6AD cinema processor. There are complaints the movies often play in analog regardless of the DTS machine being present in the booth rack. The main virtue of the Central Mall 12 theater is its location. It is in the mall. That may be enough for some people. Teenagers seem to like that and make up a big part of the multiplex’ customer base. Central Mall implemented a curfew for people under 18, but it does not apply to the theater. The mall curfew was adopted to cut down on some of the loitering and potential of fights and worse that can result from a lot of teens being grouped together. If bright and sharp picture quality is important, and you want good quality sound regardless of what screen is playing the movie then you need to drive out west to the Carmike 8. Both first run theaters in Lawton are negatively affected by viewers playing with their mobile phones during the show, but the problem is significantly worse at the mall theater due to its higher number of teen and young adult viewers.
