Fantastic pizza, good selection of ingredients, and truly gluten free if you need it. I can eat this GF pizza and not have a reaction. Service is friendly, eating in is how I expect a pizza joint to be: completely casual.

I ordered the gluten free pizza online and the gluten free chicken tenders… thirty minutes later I received the order hot and ready to enjoy… Everything was extremely delicious and I would definitely recommend this excellent restaurant for anyone who wants to enjoy a healthier pizza option…

I don’t often quote Nancy Reagan but when i do, it is her«just say no» saying… Just say NO to WSP… I have ordered from the 4 – 5 times each time thinking that they can’t always suck… well…unlike the Who, I was fooled again… Never a good sign when the dough is more stringy than the cheese… oh, and the cheese, yeah, it is thicker than all of the layers of your skin and probably just as gelatinous. The sauce, well, lets say that you can and would do better if you bought a can of sauce from the Dollar Store… speaking of dollars, their«pizza» is not just gross but grossly overpriced… the delivery is rather slow(though, if I were the driver, I’d be in no hurry to bring you this slop either) Pizza Shuttle would be a better choice, though they are not the greatest, they are good and the price is right!

Split a 14″ Phoggy Meatball pizza with a friend, hand-tossed wheat crust. I liked the red onion and banana peppers, but the meatballs were a bit bland. Friendly service, clean restaurant, video games & nice booths to sit and eat. Note: my friend asked if I wanted thin crust, since I used to live in NY, but nope! I’ve learned my lesson about trying to get NY pizza(and bagels) not in NY.

I love pizza so when I moved to Lawrence two months ago I started trying all the pizza places. This is one of my favorite two. I can’t pick a favorite between Wheat State and Pyramid Pizza because they are so different. I choose Wheat State wheat original when I want a nice wheat flavor and soft crust. I love all the meats and none of the vegetables when it comes to pizza so I order the Pa’s Barnyard.

I am a big fan of pizza, but I’m even a bigger fan of a place that offers gluten free pizza ever since I was told no more gluten by the doctor six months ago. At Wheat State Pizza I ordered the gluten free Phoggy Meatball and man was it DELICIOUS! So here are my more important reviews of this restaurant joint: 1) the gluten free crust was so great! I talked to the owner/chef about the crust and why it was so good. He said that he goes through a regular manufacturer but he thought their original recipe was a little bland, so he had them add some seasonings to the crust and now they are selling the recipe he helped make so delicious. It was so good :) 2) my boyfriend had the wheat crust hawk n cheese and said that of all the wheat crust pizzas he’s ever had this one was by far the softest tastiest ever 3) the service was epic. It’s so nice to have the ability to talk to owners of any business in general. I asked for the ceaser Salas no croutons and they accidentally were on the salad anyway. I didn’t make a fuss but the owner felt the need to come up to me and apologize and offered to remake the salad even though I had almost finished it. If you love pizza and can appreciate great service, definitely make sure to stop by this place while in Lawrence KS

I figured it was time to update my review after another stellar order of delivery pizza. First, let me set tonight’s scene: My family is visiting for Christmas and it’s one of those pajamas-at-8-PM-hulu-watching nights, and I place my online order for pizza(score for online orders!). I have a very, very old house with a very, very broken doorbell, so I have a sign that reads«Doorbell is broken, yell ‘ding dong!’ really loudly… or knock, but where’s the fun in that?» We pop in an episode of Parks and Rec and wait. Thirty minutes later, we hear a loud«DINGDONG!!!» outside my door. I’ve had that sign up for a year and can count on my right hand the number of times people have followed those directions. Amazing. It was my family’s first time trying Wheat State and they all agreed that it was the best pizza they’ve tried in Kansas.

I have never called for delivery but have dined in/carried out several times. I LOVE the wheatstix w/cheese. Their wheat crust pizza makes me very happy; I really like the sauce. I wouldn’t waste your money on a salad, though. They’re pretty boring.

I can’t believe they are able to make such a yummy, soft wheat crust! This place is a little pricier than the chain stores, but SO worth it. Wheatstix w/cheese are a MUST.

I’ve given Wheat State Pizza(delivery) two tries now and have to agree with the other Unilocalers who rate it «just ok». Each time I’ve ordered, I found that the descriptions sound a lot better than the actual product. The wheat crust is bland and there aren’t enough toppings to create a distinct flavor. I love pizza, but both times I’ve ordered here, I found myself not finishing the pie and not finding it worth refrigerating for the next day.

First the pizza — Good but not great. Definitely better than most chain pizza places. Nice topping combinations. I appreciated the option of whole wheat crust but found it be a bit dense & doughy. The service was fabulous. We were a large group with adults and children. We called ahead and they had a table ready for us. They were very patient since it took a while to figure out which pizzas and drinks everyone wanted. Good suggestions by waitress helped us along. Frequent check-ins kept water pitchers filled. Drinks are self-serve but waitress served a couple of party who were trapped in middle of a big table. I live in a touristy area with fairly high restaurant prices so found the pizza quite affordable. Their Saturday special deal made it downright cheap for good pizza.

First… The pizza would get a 3 star. Their wheat crust is too powdery, two chewy and not very good. However the pizza is made well and tastes pretty good Second… The service is horrible. They automatically assume you want the wheat crust. When you ask for the white crust the get pissy and tell you that it will be another 20 minutes because they have to make the dough. They don’t listen when you tell them what you want. Each time I have gone in they have give us the wrong toppings and refused to change them. They have also given me a full salad instead of the side salad I ask for. The last time I went was the final straw. I will NEVER go back. It was a Tuesday night, around 10:30, and my boyfriend and I decided to go get pizza. Wheat State says they are supposed to be open until 12:30 but when we walked in the guy in the back came out and said they closed at 10. And yet the door was open, the signs were on, a person had just walked out with a pizza, and people were in there eating. When j pointe this out the man got upset and started yelling. I simply turned around an started to walk out. As we were getting in the car someone pulled up and walked inside to get a pizza. We went hone and called to get a pizza from them. By 11:15 we had a pizza from Whet State pizza. I called the next day to find out what the hell happened, the person I spoke to hung up on me! Never again will I give them my service.

I like Wheat State. It is a little expensive, but good, and they have some creative topping choices. I like the Hawk & Cheese, which has chicken, cream cheese, and peppers. I’m not a pizza snob. I like most pizza well enough, but not Pizza Shuttle or Pyramid.

Like many other reviewers of Wheat State, I too consider myself a pizza snob. But if you look at Wheat State for what it is — a takeout pizza joint — I’d say it deserves an A-Ok. I mean, I have my fair share of complaints: the famous wheat crust they boast about is chewy and bland, and if you opt for one of the more«gourmet’ choices like the Mediterranean expect some funky stuff(weird pasty pesto and green olives with an odd metallic-y flavor). BUT, if you get something plain like the Pa’s Barnyard(aka meat lover’s) it’s definitely better than your standard chain pizza place. You actually get a decent balance of topping because they’re not trying to rip you off by piling on the sauce and cheese. Just remember that you’re making up for that in price; Wheat State is on the higher end for takeout pizza(15.99 for a large) — I personally will spend the extra buck or two for nongreasy pizza… when I decide to get takeout, that is ;) Bottom line: set aside your pizza elitism and this place is all right.

As far as pizza goes in Lawrence, KS, this stuff is the cats pajamas. I love anything wheat, so the wheat crust is really tasty, with a good mix of chewiness and tenderness. Toppings are used liberally, as is the cheese. Prices are exactly what I would expect to pay — a bit more than most pizza in Lawrence, but for a good reason.

We were looking for an alternative to the now closed Old Chicago… Great pizza with delicious crust! The sauce is a bit sweet. The Caesar salad was a good start to the meal. Friendly staff, and the trivial pursuit cards to help you pass the time are nice!

Wheat State Pizza fills a pretty important niche in Lawrence: better-than-average pizza that can be delivered. The pizza uses higher-quality ingredients than most chain restaurants and the their specialty pizzas take full advantage of that, providing tasty combinations ready to be selected. Naturally you’re able to build your own as well, but I’ve found myself more than satisfied with the presets provided. The prices are slightly high, though not unreasonably so. It may be a case of getting what you pay for, but it certainly places the pizza a half-notch above lower quality pizza places money-wise. Delivery time was on the slow end of expected, so there are no complaints there. I was pleased by the taste and quality of the pizza and I didn’t suffer any sort of «pizza regret»(the one-two-punch of knowing I just ate unhealthy ingredients and the physical sensation of the food sitting heavy in my stomach). If you’re willing to spend a little more than usual for your pizza, you’ll end up much happier choosing Wheat State. Review: 3.5 stars.

As far as I’m concerned, the pizza itself warrants 2-stars(we’ve established that I’m a pizza snob). What bumps Wheat State up a notch is that they offer much healthier options than other places in town. This means loads of veggie options, plus they have that whole wheat crust going on(and you can order the crust thin or thick). Another cool thing is even though all three times we ordered from them the order was incorrect(they put *onions* of all things on the pizza, instead of the olives I ordered), they will deliver another pie for free or comp your next one(I recommend picking off the offensive toppings and just getting the next one for free if you can stand it. Less waste and unless you feel like being hungry for another 45 minutes, this is the best way to go). It’s a shame that three out of three times they got our order wrong. At least they have good customer, uh, control. Gotta give them props for that. This doesn’t mean I’ll be ordering from them anytime soon. The crust, thin or thick, wheat or white, is not agreeable to me, and the tomato sauce might possibly have sugar in it, because it’s too sweet for the likes of me(I’m quite bitter). Lastly, *this* is heresy: they started the despicable«dipping crusts in honey» trend that has been going around Lawrence for ages now. Not to mention *brace yourselves for this one* they offer cream cheese. On pizza. What the eff?
