Wayne & Larry’s Sports Bar & Grill

Not a fan of this sports bar. It’s massive with tons of seating. They have some TVs, but not enough for a real sports bar. The service is mediocre. The food is laughable. This is definitely more of a bar than a restaurant. Expect crappy bar food that tastes boring and basic. You could make the same items at home and they’d certainly taste better. I only eat here when I have absolutely no choice (i.e. the Kansas trivia finals are regularly held here).

I love Wayne and Larry’s. It became a go to when I lived in Lawrence because it was the only place I could get true Vienna hotdogs, with a poppyseed bun and celery salt in true Chicago style. After obsessing over their hot dogs for years, I tried the fried chicken sandwich which is 100% awful for you and 100% worth it. I now live in Seattle, but a recent trip back to Lawrence had us stopping in here to relive old food memories. The service is eh but the hot dogs are worth it.

I’m really searching to find something nice to say about this visit, but there’s really not much. The burger tasted good, but the mushrooms on the mushroom Swiss burger tasted like jarred mushrooms instead of something sautéed. My husband’s bacon cheeseburger had cold bacon, with a slimy gelled layer of fat on it — absolutely inedible.
The two valid excuses for tonight were that our party started at 5, grew to 8, and then grew to 11; and also that they were short staffed tonight.
However, even with a growing party or being short staffed, a server should be able to notify her table that there may be delays. We had to ask three times for refills, including going up to the bar to ask for them. My daughters drink wasn’t brought out until 30 minutes after we ordered it. The server didn’t check back with our table at all after our food arrived — which was a big problem because one meal wasn’t delivered with the rest of the meals (with no explanation) and it didn’t show up until 20 minutes later. Then the server came by to check on the food that the last people who joined us had ordered, but their food was never delivered
Worst of all, Wayne was going around to each table explaining that they were short staffed and apologizing for the slow service, and he did nothing to improve our situation. He acknowledged that the seasoned fries that we were upcharged for looked terrible and that we hadn’t received any drink refills, and we still paid full price for all of it.
We paid and left, and the final three people in our party ended up ordering take out Jimmy John’s they had waited over 40 minutes and never received their meals. I won’t actively avoid coming back to Wayne & Larry’s if friends decide to go there, but I will absolutely not choose to go back again.

Good little sports bar. Right next to the bowling alley. Had boneless wings, which were below average on size but tasted good. Also had the Wakiki sandwich which was good. Would not get the mixed veggies again because they were not very tasty. Nice TV’s and nice setup.

Best mens bathroom in town… the space heater in the mens bathroom helps the keep it nice and humid to make sure the fresh poop smell sticks to your clothes

Had the open roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy. Laurie had grilled ham and cheese with fries. Both were $ 6.99 and tasted great.

They advertised 5 16oz beers in a bucket for $ 15. They brought us 12oz beers and apologized because they were out of the 16 oz bottles, but offered no discount. So they basically cheated us out of 40 ounces of beer because we ordered 2 buckets and refused to make it right. We had to ask repeatedly to get the tv’s on during the NCAA tournament too! Our server was geeat, but the mgmt stunk.

Never go! The security is very disrespectful and rude. The security try’s to fight everyone. Sunday funday is a good deal but don’t go!

The dinner specials are always excellent at Wayne n Larry’s, especially the burger, chicago, wing and appetizer discounts. This is also a decent place to watch KU games, host parties or have a chill night and go next door for bowling!

Went out on Saturday Night to have dinner. We sat down and was greeted with Menus, then it seemed that the service went downhill from there. Got our drinks and the beer didn’t have any fiss, so got bottle and cold glass. Seemed like to get service it was like pulling teeth because had to wave down waitress all the time when we needed her, when she did stop, she was polite. Went to use giveback card, (which is for local businesses donating to charities for dollars spent) She brought back ticket with the number from the giveback card incorrectly put on the ticket, stopped by the bar and bartender put the number on the ticket. We noticed that they didn’t enter it at that point, so we asked and she said they don’t enter until at the end of the day. Checked my account and it wasn’t entered in. Because of this visit, I will not be visiting anymore.

Wings are the bomb!

I really like this bar for a casual night out or for watching the big game. Their karaōke is really fun too! I think the drink specials are good and about average for the area. There isn’t a thing on the menu that I’ve tried and haven’t liked. The variety is excellent and the food comes out in a quick manner. Sometimes you’ll get that new or bored waitress but overall I’m pleased when I leave.

We used to go to W&L’s quite a bit a few years ago (²⁰⁰⁹⁄₂₀₁₀) & it was pretty good. But it’s gone way downhill in the last year or so. I always believe in giving 3 tries if I’ve gotten bad food/​bad service, as everyone can have a bad night. Tonight, hubby & I stopped for burger & beer — the place had 5 sitting at the bar & only 2 tables (including us), however, the 4 waitresses couldn’t be bothered to wait on the tables & what little they did, you could tell they didn’t want to — they’d rather stand at the drink station & gossip loudly. The bartender was taking great care of the «regulars» at the bar. Hubby’s burger was undercooked & my burger was burnt (they forgot the lettuce, onions & tomato on both), but the fries were okay & the beer was cold.
Tonight was the 3^rd & final time. We won’t bother going back.

I went to Wayne and Larry’s last weekend with my family and, despite having enjoyed myself in the past, I felt like this experience may have shown me some of Wayne and Larry’s weaknesses. First, I’ll admit I wasn’t very hungry. I decided to order off of the Sides menu instead of getting a full meal as I have done in the past. I opted for some Mac ‘N Cheese and a small Caesar Salad. I guess it might be partly my problem for expecting something without knowing for certain what I was ordering, but I was presented with plain Kraft Mac ‘N Cheese in a small dinosaur bowl as if I were a 5 year old and not a 30 year old woman. I guess I expected a smaller side of a homemade Mac like most other places that DO NOT EXPLICITLY SAY Kraft on the menu. There was no mention of this or I wouldn’t have ordered it (can you imagine… nearly $ 3 for what was probably $.25 worth of Blue Box starchiness?) I don’t hate Kraft, I just think that I could even make it taste better at home than they managed at Wayne and Larry’s.
Mac aside, even the small Caesar Salad was nothing to write home about. I didn’t love it. I didn’t hate it. It just sort of «was.»
Another thing that really annoyed me about my experience? We have a 3 month old baby and, often, when we go into sports bar style restaurants we have to figure out if the volume is turned up too loudly on the TVs for her comfort level. When we entered Wayne and Larry’s it was a perfectly acceptable volume. It wasn’t until we had ordered our meals that, all of a sudden, the volume on the Royals game no one seemed to be watching became uncomfortable for MY ears. Somehow, the baby slept through it. I, however, missed a lot of conversation between the other people at my table since I couldn’t hear them over the loudness of the speakers.
Overall, the others in my group seemed to enjoy their meals, but I don’t care if I did just order sides. They should still taste good. Mine didn’t really. I would suggest adding Kraft to the menu so people know what they’re getting. I probably won’t be back and definitely won’t be bringing out of town company again as there are other places in town that I would rather go.

We went out here on a tuesday, kinda for the karaōke that was supposed to start at 9, but because of the KU game didn’t, and it was going on 10 and they still hadn’t, so we left since boyfriend had to work the next day
We each got a $ 4 long island (1 of the specials of the night). Boyfriend finished his and was immediately offered another beer by guy bartender when he took his glass, normal operating procedure at every bar i’ve been in. Though when I finished mine the girl bartender just took the glass and didn’t offer me anything. I had to flag her down to get a drink.
In my opinion when your business is based on tips, and people who drink more tip more, you would think that she would make sure that if i wanted a drink i had one, but again thats just my crazy opinion.
Will we return, maybe, will we return just for some drinks, no.

I don’t know. Every time I go to Wayne & Larry’s, I like it less and less. Their food seems warmed up half the time, and their specials start to pale in comparison to other places in Lawrence, now that I’ve been here for a few months. There are just way better places to eat around town. Sorry Wayne & Larry’s!

A good place to watch games because they have lots of televisions and good food! The food is not anything special just burgers, sandwiches and salads.
Our take shared an order of the nachos which were delicious actually and so was BBQ chicken sandwich. They also serve Bud Select which makes me happy too!
Despite it being game day and the place was packed the service was great and when new people joined our party the server arrived promptly to ask if they needed anything.
It is located next to the bowling alley which is always a good thing in case you wanna get in a game of bowling between beers.
