This place is as good as ice cream gets. This isn’t for the gelato, froyo type of ice cream eaters. This is authentic, homemade ice cream and cones. This place is great for a number of reasons: 1) Very reasonably priced 2) Have a «buy one, get the second one half off» on Tuesday, when you show your college ID 3) They generous with their toppings and when you say«keep going» they say«tell me when». Take full advantage here, people! 4) I’m not a big fan of waffle cones, but theirs are big, crunchy and you can have your choice of toppings attached to your cone. They good. 5) The names are fun, creative and lively. 6) The variety here is enormous, so make sure you sample — don’t be shy!

My favorite ice cream shop in the world! They have a ton of homemade flavors to offer as well as waffle cones made in house. There is a flavor to suit any taste and they can do a mind-blowing number of combinations and dessert configurations. It’s often packed with a line out the door on nice days, so be prepared for a wait and/or to have to eat elsewhere. That would be my sole complaint: it’s not big enough. It’s a must stop spot for ice cream and I make sure to eat here every time I’m in town, weather be damned.

Always a place we take friends to when they visit from out of town. Often a place we visit on our own. Flavors are amazing. Prices are high as far as ice cream goes, but hey, the flavors are amazing. Atmosphere and size of their space is not a place you hang out in at all, but again, did I mention the flavors are amazing?

You will find yourself feeling like a little kid inside a sugar store. They have soooo many flavors all listed on a chalkboard on the wall(and nicely decorated too). Don’t be afraid to try samples of their flavors, they even encourage it. It is like an unwritten rule, but they have endless samples! I can’t think of any flavor I would completely NOT recommend. Each one is great, depending on what you are craving the day you go in! On Tuesday they have a great deal for KU students(Buy One Get One Free), so the line gets pretty long and might even be out the door. I once was the last costumer before they closed on Tuesday. To be surprise I got free ice cream just to hold up a sign saying I was the last one they will serve before closing. It was nice having that power, sorry to whomever I turned away. But hey, free ice cream is free ice cream. Best thing of it all, it is so affordable and they have great freshly made waffle cones.

Ice-cream was amazing. Waffle cone was even more amazing! The thickness and texture of it was perfect. I don’t think I’ve ever had a waffle cone like that. Thumbs up!

Great ice cream and a pretty good experience. The staff could have been friendlier as they seemed annoyed, but it was late in the day. The menu is certainly set up to nickel and dime you. A waffle cone is a different price than the waffle bowl? WHY? It’s the same thing except a different shape! Overall I liked this place. But could really benefit from a more simple pricing scheme like Chipotle has.

Came here sorta by accident(or God’s will/divine design?) as I intended on taking i35 to kc, but found myself driving 435 w/o realizing it… ANYWHO, was really craving a LEGIT ice-cream parlor and Sylas and Maddies did NOT disappoint! Made-fresh-daily creams in various flavors like sweet cream, choc., strawberry, baklava and house-unique flavors from tgose bases like my selection of the recommended one(forget the given-name) with sweet cream, oreos, choc. chunks, and cookie dough. I’m frequently torn between choc. chip-cookie dough and cookies/cream…but the epic decision was thrown off the table with this even more epic flavor! I was given«up to 5» samples(REAL ones too; on sample spoons but easily enough to warrant a reg. spoon) but being a human with common sense utilized them all landing me on my final decision of aforementioned flavor single(as in one«BIGFLIPPING») scoop with waffle bowl which set me back about $ 4.50. they have a military night and college night with BOGO free(eq./lesser val.) which if i’d been there an hour later would have gladly utilized. Nonetheless, for homemade ice cream in portions of sinfully good size, the pricepoint was perfect. Set right next door to KU campus, Sylas/Maddies is a quaint, cozy i.c. parlor that, including my stroll around historic/picturesque downtown Lawrence, made a PERFECT break in my road trip; needless to say, I will MOSTDEFINITELY be coming back anytime i’m in the area!!! (ps, –1star for sample limit less than the number of available flavors while making all of the flavors so deliciously tempting :-P)

I got the five flavor sampler; you get five small scoops of ice cream in a bowl. The ice cream was thick and can fill you up(five small scoops was a lot of ice cream for me). I ended up with snickers, baklava, birthday cake, mint chip, and blueberry cheesecake. My favorite was snickers; it had chocolate and caramel pieces. My least favorite was birthday cake; the mix of cake, sprinkles, waffles(?), and other miscellaneous chunks left a strange aftertaste. I would come back to try different flavors.

If you’d like to become fat(or fatter), this is the place to go!!! Best ice cream you will put in your mouth for a long time! Gets busy sometimes but hey, that lets ya know that it is good. Just an FYI here, don’t eat ice cream after having a few beers as your stomach becomes a civil war battlefield, the south being the beer and ice cream being the north and again, the north wins

Soooo many flavors, and endless samples! We came here when it was 20ish degrees outside, which is somewhat of a tradition in my family — ice cream in cold weather. Eric R. and I tried so many flavors, but I settled on a «single» which is 2 scoops! I got lemon custard pie and Irish cream in a waffle cone. It was SO good! At the bottom of the waffle cone there was sneakily a whopper! I suppose it holds the ice cream from dripping out of the bottom of the cone. Eric R. got grasshopper(mint cookies n cream) and cookie dough. We were both very happy with this delicious ice cream and fun atmosphere.

First visit! The ice cream was very good and the assortment of flavors was fairly diverse, if a bit on the expected side. I had a 5 flavor sampler, which turned out to be a good choice. Wee bitty scoops of five different flavors. Great way to try several if you can’t make up your mind! If you’re a fan of coffee ice cream, check out the dark espresso roast. The strawberry was also good… such a nice & fresh berry flavor. This would be a fun stop after a long afternoon of exploring Mass St!

homemade ice cream on the best street in Lawrence, Kansas? YES! I came here after getting dinner at the brewery on Mass Street, for dessert. It was the best way to end a night of strolling down Mass Street browsing cute stores and doing some shopping. I got the smallest scoop and thought it was reasonably priced compared to Coldstone, and the portion was just right for me. They let you sample flavors if you ask and everyone was really friendly. I got the English toffee flavor, kind of a mix between butter pecan and some other nuts, and it was yummmmyy. The Jayhawks flavor is another favorite, and my friends ordered the chocolate one with chocolate-covoered chocolate-somethings and chocolate syrup or something like that. Apparently it was decadent and if you are a chocolate lover you should definitely try that. The texture and flavor of the ice cream is awesome and I highly recommend coming here when you are craving cold desserts!

This is not just the best ice cream in Lawrence, it is the best, local, homemade ice cream I’ve ever had. The staff is always on, and you can tell by the line out the door on a summer night just how amazing this place is. Extra tip — If you just want a small amount, 1 scoop, order a baby scoop. You can split a single into 2 small scoops.
