If you’re looking to have a low key night with friends I would recommend the place. The drinks are reasonably price. The place has plenty of tables, however it is a small venue so it fills up quickly. Between the tables there is little room space, so be prepared to get to know your neighbors. Not a bad thing. As far as the drag show, I feel like they could have rehearsed more. I have attended to a couple of drag shows in Kansas City and New York City; although my expectations weren’t that high I still think they could have performed a lot better. It simply felt like that was the very FIRST practice they were doing, not impressed whatsoever. ITIS A CASHBAR! If you do forget, there is an ATM right outside of their door. AND to get to the bar you have to go up a flight of stairs, so drunk people and girls with high heels beware.

I’m a Louisiana native and I think this place is pretty damn great. Definitely gives me a taste of home… of course there are some things missing from the menu but I mean it’s to be expected, it Kansas! The atmosphere it’s is enough to get people in the door but I think the food is what keeps them. my last tid but would be to order desert. You won’t regret it!

Came here on Xmas eve and xmas day late night to watch a friend’s band. First night we arrived after 930p and we paid a cover of $ 5. Next night we arrived early and didn’t have to pay. They have a lot of selections of beverages including decent wine. Fills up quickly so get there early. No room to sit or even stand once the place is full. I also couldn’t even tell if they had a bathroom. Wait staff is understaffed and so it took longer to get drinks. Pay cash it’s much easier. I don’t think you can open a tab which is quite inconvenient.

Ok… where to start… My first experience here was ok. I was drunk when I got there though after a birthday party so I think it was skewed. The bartenders were some of the best around but the treatment that my entire group received the 2nd time I came completely pissed me off though. On my second visit(Monday night for karaōke), I was out with 20 – 30 of my classmates so we were around half of the people at the bar so you would think that it would be a good idea to try and keep us happy, right? Well this bar was off the mark like nobody’s business. At 10:00PM, my friend puts in a ballot to sing and the girls at the computer for karaōke take it smile and say ok. Two hours later the same 4 people have sang like, 3 songs each(along with 2 – 3 other acts) so someone else goes up and asks«how do you: get to sing for karaōke?» and they say that tipping them gets you farther up the list. This would have been fine if they had mentioned it the first time around but nope… nothing. So my friend goes up and«tips» the girls $ 5 and they say sure, you are 4th/5th in line. An hour later and she STILL hasn’t been called up to sing. My entire group is PISSED at this point because out of the 20 – 30 people who have come and the 15 that have signed up to sing(and tipped at this point), only 2 have been called up on stage and the karaōke girls’ friends have been up 5 – 6 more times. So my friend and I decide we are fed up with it and she goes to ask for her money back because she hasn’t gotten to sing for 3FUCKINGHOURS now. They proceed to tell her she only gave them $ 3. We left along with half our group(I’m assuming that the other half was still trying to get their money back.). At the time that we left, the person behind us offered up $ 20 to go up next and it was still putting him around 10th on the lineup. Also, the girl that finally gave us $ 3⁄5 said that she owns the place and all I have to say is that she needs to REALLY reconsider karaōke night because I will NEVER recommend this bar to anyone on pure disrespect by her alone. If this is how she treats customers who have been buying drinks for the past 3 hours, then she deserves to go out of business. To the friends of the girls working karaōke: don’t quit your job at the strip club(yeah, we remembered that conversation), you weren’t that good and quit singing fucking ballads on karaōke. Sing upbeat and fun sing-a-longs. I would NEVER recommend this bar to anyone. Not even someone I dislike.

In order to get to this bar, you come in through a door from the sidewalk and you are greeted with an unfortunate number of stairs, once you climb those stairs, go to your immediate left. That’s where the bouncer will greet you and take you cover(it varies, but is NEVER over $ 5. a lot of the time, women get in free, duh). To the right of the stairs is your new best friend: the ATM. This bar is awesome. There are so many events and they even hold theme parties(it’s the sorority girl in me, I can’t help it, I live for themed-parties). It has cute intimate seating. Sweet little candles softly glowing on each table. On Mondays(karaōke) the hosts are great and hilarious and keep you in the game. I’ve yet to have one bad experience here. ITIS A CASHBAR! If you do forget, though, there’s an ATM right outside of their door. Little useful tip: the bathrooms are in the very back of the room to the right; there are 2 girl’s bathrooms and one dude’s. It pays to be a lady. I highly recommend going here, especially on Mondays. It does get a bit crowded and with the tables being quite close together, you get to know your neighbor very well, like, butt to the head well. If you’re careful, though, it’s fine, and you know when you sit down what you’re in for, so does everyone else. I’ve yet to experience a bad or gropey crowd here.

I have only been here twice. Once on my 21st birthday(approximately 10 years ago) and just recently after Warrior Dash for a friends birthday. I really can’t say much bad about this place, except that those stairs are dangerous when drinking(that or I have ZERO coordination, which is completely possible LOL) The overall vibe of the place is very chill, awesome lighting fixtures, and affordable drinks. Hopefully I wont wait another 10 years to get back there!

I used to come here ALL the time when I was in school, so celebrating my recent«big» bday, I had to come here again. Sad that they moved their hours to so late but still had a drink and got to remember the good times. Love the owner(missed him that night though) and hope to be back soon

This place is great on a Tuesday night, incredible specials. A lot of locals and hippie types hang out here but on some nights you can find some pretty attractive women and more normal groups. Would definitely recommend!

woohoo is right! this is an awesome place to go on any given night. I went on a tuesday night with just one of my girl friends and we had a hell of a good night. Walking in seamed overly crowded but as you made your way in you were exposed to the amazing chill set up that had plenty of room for everyone(but they all were crowded by the bar to care). Drink specials differ every night and have almost anything you want to drink. The bar tenders are friendly and inviting, encouraging you to drink more and request songs to keep the night going. They’ve actually got an outdoor porch now where you can go with your friends, meet some new people and smoke a cig if you feel like. Bathrooms… eh not the greatest but I mean your not at a hotel or anything. Overall the atmosphere, the hospitality, and the quality of the Jazzhaus won me over, definitely becoming a weekly hang out!

Absolutely loved this little Jazz club. The band was great, and they even had a dance floor. Drinks are also great! The bartenders were friendly. The atmosphere was terrific. My date and I had a great time. It would definitely be my new hang out spot!

Awesome cheap music venue with a wide variety of(usually) local acts. Really cool vibe, decorated with sexy busts of anonymous women, hand made and painted by the co-owner/general manager. The bartenders are attentive, pour a great drink, and play fun music with broad appeal from their extensive iTunes library. I’m pretty sure they only have one TV set up on regular nights, but on KU game days, lots of times they’ll open early and set up a very large video projector which turns the place into one of my absolute favorite places to watch a game. Not to mention the individual tables with swivel chairs for 4 so you’re not stuck holding your drink when you want to be clapping. Oh, and I almost forgot, they have a small arcade across the hall from the front entrance with a few sofas and video games. Geez, I keep remembering more great things! THEYSELLWINEBYTHEBOTTLETHATYOUCANTAKEHOME! No booze for after hours? They’re sell you a bottle of vino at 1AM. Pro tip: They sell chips for like $ 1 behind the bar but nobody ever seems to notice. Except me and my friends.

Maybe we went on an off night, but the bartender had no interest in being there, there was a magazine rack in the corner(for boredom?) and trashy people were singing karaōke. Is it always like this?

My favorite bar in Lawrence to just chill out. Tuesday nights is $ 1.50 nearly anythings(crown and coke for me) and is the best night to go. Sometimes has some decent bands but again is just a great bar to hang out without the normal crowded loud atmosphere.

Jazzhaus is the very first nightclub I went to on my first visit to Lawrence in September 08, so it holds a bit of a soft spot in my heart! The K brought me here on one of our first dates, and local rockabilly faves, the Rumblejetts were playing. I was charmed by it all – the boy, the band, the bar… and the banquets(*there* I got one more in!). Jazzhaus has a sweet seating set-up(damn, I’m an alliteration dynamo tonight. I can’t be stopped!) and has a divey cabaret feeling about it. I could have sworn I was in Greenwich Village circa 1955 in the infamous«Bucket of Blood»(some of you will get the reference). *Oh yeah* Daddy-o.

If you want live music and a great atmosphere rolled into one venue the Jazzhaus is the place to be. When there is a band playing(which seems to be all the time) it is incredibly noisy, so take that into account – not a great place for a first date. For me, the volume is part of the charm. The lighting is kept low(plenty of dark corners), the booths hug the walls, the venue is small and there is limited standing room – four great things that really make the Jazzhaus a great place to catch a drink and a local show. Make sure you bring cash though, the one major downside to this place is the cover which will run you $ 4 to $ 6.
