They just opened up a new section in the restaurant for japanese food(sushi and ramen). We tried the sushi and it’s just okay. We also ordered tonkatsu ramen but it’s kinda disappointing. The broth was weak and lukewarm. The yakibuta was bland. The whole dish has sort of chemical smell to it, i’m guessing it’s from the noodles. Hope they’ll improve it because this ramen is supposed to be authentic japanese compared to another ramen restaurant in Lawrence which served«fusion» ramen. So it gives a good alternative for ramen lovers

Our first time here and we’ll definitely be back. Super fast service and the food was great.

This restaurant has just expanded, and now includes a sushi bar in an attached new room. Surprisingly they can even make sushi with brown rice. This is very unusual.

Lisa and her crew always have such a great place and good food! I’ve been eating here for over 20 years and am never disappointed!

flavors were dull and food was like eating frozen vegetables from the supermarket.

Used to love this place until we hosted a party there. Had the karaōke room reserved months ahead(that whole process was completely unorganized) and upon arrival we had to wait for them to get it ready for us. Half of the guests hated their food. Mine was so bad that I took it to the front counter to get something else and they took away my food then charged me to get another dish. The karaōke selection was very old and limited and the entire system was not conducive to English-speakers and hard to operate, especially with the very little instruction we were given. Overall a very frustrating, unorganized visit but luckily I was with some awesome people and we managed to have a great time.

The food was okay to good. Not really exceptional just average to good Chinese food. The service was good thought. The employee was pleasant and accommodating. She offered to special order my food according to my preferences. I’ll go back. For some reason the ragoons were tasty. Not sure why. Ragoons are ragoons.

Jade Garden has a huge menu that spans Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and more. It’s a little overwhelming, but it gives you a lot of choices to try every time. When it comes to Asian food, I tend to shy away from it, but there’s something about Jade that’s really welcoming to folks like me. I’ve had the Singapore noodles twice now and they’re pretty good! Their veggie spring rolls are awesome and the egg drop soup tastes homemade. What keeps me coming back is how many dishes there are to try; even if some fall a little flat for me, there’s still plenty to try.

The food is good, not as greasy as others. The delivery is a little slow, BUT they have a mobile card reader. Why doesn’t every business embrace that?! Anyway, we are new here, and I was able to feed five adults for less than thirty bucks on moving day!

Waited on delivery for over an hour. Called to see what was taking so long and they said they overlooked my order. It finally arrived and I was missing a side and only got ONE soy sauce packet. Sorry to hear about your soy sauce shortage. The delivery man was rude, didn’t compensate, and the food did not taste fresh. Awful.

I usually love getting Jade Garden delivered. It takes while but it’s worth the wait. The one problem I have(and it’s a big one) is their food is very inconsistent. I get the curry noodle soup and it’s never the same. My most recent order was so spicy, I couldn’t even eat it. It’s usually spicy but flavorful. I didn’t get more than a couple bites out of it, and it’s not cheap. Other times it’s quite bland and then sometimes it’s very good, perfect amount of spice and coconut milk. Very weird.

Ordered delivery tonight, took over an hour and i live less than a half mile away. Food was cold and flavorless, so bad i took two bites and tossed it in the trash. Waste of time and money.

I can’t speak for the Beef with Broccoli, Egg Drop Soup or Chicken Lo Mein. I suspect it’s just like it is… here… and there… and every other Chinese joint in Lawrence. Or Kansas City. Or Topeka. Don’t eat the stuff. I come here when I want to get outside my comfort zone a little because they have an extensive Chinese only menu and you can order off of it just like yours truly: skinny ass, middle-aged midwestern white boy. Today, a spectacular pork ribs hot pot brimming with vegetables and enough heat – no, make that a HELL of a lot of heat, probably the hottest, spiciest dish I’ve ever had in the city limits of Lawrence and it was fine. Just the antidote I needed after being cooped up for a few days post Christmas with the streets, driveway and sidewalks packed with snow and ice. Red chili oil bubbling to the top fueled by the sterno beneath. The pork ribs tender and packed with flavor, possibly a hint of cumin, nicely seared, bone and cartilage in, a good thing! Plenty of assorted vegetables: onions, bok choy, celery, carrots and more. A dish that makes you happily sweat and leave knowing you won’t need to dine again for the rest of the day(post-lunch). Want tripe, intestine soup, pig’s feet in hot pot, chicken feet and beyond? Blood in your soup? You can get it here on the Chinese menu. They also dabble in some Korean, Japanese, Thai. Wait, it’s just starting to get weird – there are Hispanic guys cooking in the back. Don’t be surprised, the great cooks in this country come from south of the border. They also cook in my favorite Vietnamese, Italian and Steakhouse in town. Next up: have to try the lamb cumin dishes that aren’t listed as such but must be Xi’an influenced. If you come: your typical strip mall Chinese restaurant. Nothing fancy but a nice touch is two large tables that seat 8 – 10 and are elevated, often packed with Asian students from KU on weekends. Good for a large party. No alcohol on the menu. Priced moderately, large portions(my meal could have, should have fed two). Ample parking.

Being a Chinese, I think the Chinese food here is good, though some courses are a little sweeter than they should be. The price is kind of expensive, but I don’t understand why the courses for Americans are cheaper. In all, this restaurant is worth trying.

When I was in college, we came here just for the cheap food. I know it wasn’t great, and I know it wasn’t authentic, but it was cheap and filling. Fast forward to me as a 28 year old working just down the street, and I have a bit of a different view of Jade Garden. I don’t go a lot, but when I do, I get exactly what I plan — a really cheap, filling meal that’s fairly tasty enough. I know it’s going to be highly Americanized and not of the best quality, but I do know that going in and it has never tried to be anything but that. The renovations several years ago make it feel a lot nicer than it was back in my college days. It doesn’t feel fancy or anything, but it doesn’t feel as run down as it used to. Additionally, the food comes out quick and the people are friendly. I’ve also found they have an authentic menu that is actually printed, so I’ll have to get back and try that. After all my trips to China, I love the authentic stuff. My company had a group of 30 Chinese folks in during the fourth quarter of 2011 and they ate a good chunk of their meals from Jade Garden. They made authentic stuff, but the Chinese folks actually liked the Americanized food too(just enough like home but still helping you realize you’re in a foreign country). The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly in getting everything in order and even delivering each day.

The price it right and the food is very hot. I order the same thing every time but I like it when I am in the mood for Chinese food.

I asked many Chinese people and they said this place was greasy. Well, I always think that, if I order the right thing, I could enjoy any restaurants(if they have any). I usually go to this place and order ‘fish in chili oil’ and ‘diced dried chicken’. These two dishes are very good. For the fish in chili oil, I like their green cabbage inside the dish(sometimes, they used napa cabbage and I thought it was worse than green cabbage). The diced dried chicken is not oily at all and is very tasty. I ordered ‘twice cooked pork’ once. The dish was actually greasy. The pork meat is actually 70% fat and 30% meat. Well, I do not know whether this is the authentic style of this dish. I found it too fatty for me. The waiter is always nice to me too.

There are just some decisions I make in life that I regret for ages. Coming to Jade Garden was one of those. I wanted to plan a goofy, low-key night by doing a movie at home with bad Chinese takeout. Note that I wasn’t expecting this food to be good — what I had in mind was MSG-infused sticky soy sauceyness in a paper box — so you can imagine how terrible it must have been to deserve 1 star, even with the bar set that low. Thinking we couldn’t go wrong with the typical Bad Chinese Takeout offerings, we had the egg drop soup, wonton soup, sweet and sour chicken, and Schezuan beef. –Egg drop soup: Had far too egg-y an aroma. I could not drink more than 2 spoonfuls. –Wonton soup: This small bowl of msg-infused broth came with TWO pathetic floating«wontons,» which were probably each about the size of a penny(YES, a PENNY!) And don’t even make me think about the filling, I don’t know what was inside but it sure as hell wasn’t meat. It was hard and looked like turd(sorry for the image but it’s true). –Sweet and sour chicken: Standard. Not a lot of complaints here. They give you the sauce on the side, which is actually a bonus because you get to choose how much of the jellylike MSG concoction to put on. –Schezuan beef: Isn’t this stuff supposed to be spicy? It was mild at best. And something was fishy with this meat, as it was a little too soft in texture. But the real icing on the cake was… the horrible food poisoning I had for 2 hours afterwards!!! This place clearly serves low-quality, cheap, dirty food. Cheap takeout is one thing but CONTAMINATED cheap takeout is in a whole other ball park. So next time you want bad Chinese takeout, save your stomach and your wallet the trouble — go to Panda Express, at least they won’t make you SICK.

I liked the system of having two different menus: Chinese-American vs. authentic Chinese. The authentic Chinese had a variety of Chinese dishes to choose from. FYI, that menu is all in Chinese, though. I ordered a cold dish and a hot dish, and they were both pretty good. The portions are also decently sized, except in my opinion, they could have given more rice. In addition, the dishes were semi-pricey considering that I spent about $ 15 for two dishes. My experience has been that cold dishes are typically cheaper as they have smaller portions and take less time and labor to make. Also, I was kind of upset that they immediately assumed that just because I wanted authentic Chinese food, I would not want fortune cookies. They didn’t offer an alternative either, so that was a bummer.
