Yummy. A favorite of the locals! Although it is known for fried catfish, my favorite is the ribs. Actually, everything is good. Not elegant, but worth the wait.

This is a dying breed of an amazing Southern genre. I have never felt more at home for Sunday dinner than at Gumlog. The bar-b-que is delicious, but the real standout is the Brunswick Stew. This is the REALSTUFF! I just love love love this place!

We visit Gumlog several times a year. They have some great fried catfish and lots of yummy hush puppies. We can’t visit the lake without visiting.

Down home southern catfish and bbq in Lavonia. The atmosphere is nice, casual, relaxed. Sweet tea pitcher on every table. Big screen tvs for viewing the games. Bbq was«okay.» Not anything to write home about. Their desserts are not homemade, they’re quick to tell you. Pepsi products. No Vegetables. Stew is very puréed. Use your GPS because it’s not easy to find. Only open Friday Saturday and Sunday.

Wow! I ate here based on the other reviews and how different my experience was! At least — the service was good and everyone was friendly. I ordered the Butterfly Shrimp and Perch fried combo. The«butterfly shrimp» were actually diced and formed — the kind you frequently find on inexpensive Chinese buffets. The perch was over cooked, that is to say, left in the fryer too long. Not burnt, but somewhat dry and chewy, rather than crisp and flaky. The fries tasted like they were fried in grease that had also been used to fry fish — or something that gave them an off taste. Hush puppies were pretty good. With a diet coke and tip my meal for one came to $ 18. Ugh!

I think sometimes when you are just somewhat impressed with the food at a place, but there’s just some thing that you can’t describe that says to you, every chance I get I would eat here as if it were the best place on earth. I’ve found myself in the Lavonia area several times and now, every time I come to this area, I get excited about Gumlog BBQ. So excited that usually I usually alone order enough for three people(Chicken, fish, and ribs) and take the rest home to be eaten later(btw, oven on 350 is the perfect way to reheat the fish and fries)… The ribs are not the absolute best I’ve ever had but these are VERY good. They are tender, huge portions and while I’m not a fan of the BBQ sauce they put with it, I can eat these without sauce(they are a wet BBQ to begin, so they do not really require sauce in my mind, unless you like yours pooled in it). The ribs do not come with that nice bark on the outside but have decent flavor. I just wish they had a nice sauce to compliment it. the fish fry. oooohhhhh, the fish fry I what you come here for. I personally love me some catfish, but they have 7 different types of fish and jumbo/popcorn shrimp. Top it off with some slaw, fries, and hushpuppies. …I just drooled on my keyboard… j32458ietrvvrtewtvoonpakdflg;n vvv sorry had to clean that up. This is some of the best fish fry I’ve ever had, topped with a really good tarter sauce, ommmm man. Good good. The chicken is smoked. pretty darn good, although a few times not really evenly juicy(I’m being really picky here, it’s really pretty good), the smoky taste is fantastic, seasoned very well. The service here is just fantastic, young ladies up to what feels like your own mamma bringing you the food, always sweet, always attentive, I’ve been here with others or by myself and I always feel like I’m ‘at home’. This place is very busy during the main meal times and there are a lot of people… a lot. but they do a good job of keeping up with service. In the words of Arnold, «I’ll Be Back» Just FYI, if you are headed north on 328 to Gumlog BBQ, be sure to just look for tall grass and a parking lot, and a sign facing the opposite direction. It’s helpful to have your GPS running, as the sign for this place is not going to grab you coming through that way.

Best«fish house» anywhere around. I guess the other food is good, but I’ve never gotten past the fish. If you’re in the area, this place is well worth your time.

If you like catfish this is the place to go, never had the BBQ so cant say how good it is, BBQ chicken is good when you can get it. Lunch is easier to get a table, nights the line is out the door.

Some friends took us here to eat and since then we have been spreading the«good news» about Gumlog Bar B Que and Fish Lodge! With complete confidence, I can tell you that we have never had a bad meal or service since we have been eating there over the last several months. When we have visitors from out of town, we make sure Gumlog is an option for dinner!!! You get LARGE… VERYLARGE… HUGEPORTIONS… did I mention the portions are large, I mean LARGE? :) What we tell everyone is: * Brunswick Stew is not soup but a hearty stew! * Grilled Chicken is always tender, juicy, and smoky! * Catfish can be ordered on the bone not just as fillets! * Beef Brisket rivals any that I have had in Texas and Oklahoma! * Steaks are tender and cooked to your specific choice of doneness! * Pulled Pork is seasoned well before you put the sauce on(if needed)! * Ribs literally fall off the bone and«big boys»(like me) will be carrying some home! I can’t tell you about dessert… because I’ve always been to full to try any! Downside: Restuarant is only open Friday-Sunday for lunch and dinner!

We stopped here last night, based on the Unilocal reviews. The lodge is about 15 minutes off of the interstate, but is worth it. All the servers seemed very nice, but Renee is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. As Californians, we are still getting used to the graciousness and friendliness in the South, and Renee was a great example of this. You felt that you are at friends for a bbq. The food was very good, as we tried the catfish, shrimp and the brisket, but the brightest spot was meeting Renee.

Good food and portions, excellent staff. Always friendly! This is one of the places we frequent. They are only open weekends, and most times we go, there is some kind of wait… so be prepared. Casual place serving some good food. Give this place a try – it’s somewhat off the beaten path and doesn’t look like much on the outside, but it’s well worth the chance.

The comic aspect of this place alone is worth the trip, but the food’s not half bad either. It can be a pretty good wait during the summer months, but look over the menu while you wait and be ready for a lip-smackin’ good time when you sit down. The BBQ pulled pork sandwich and ribs are awesome and others in our party with the catfish said it was great. The pork sandwich is good with the slaw added or the sliced pickles and as a side note, make sure you order your pie when you order your meal or they will likely sell out and you will be :(.

Great BBQ pork & chicken. Good portions. Reasonable prices. Catfish and popcorn shrimp are also decent.
