CubeSmart Self Storage

On Jan 21, 2016 I got up early at 5am to drive around running errands before I drove up to Cubesmart to pay for my unit. I stumbled across the company’s info the day prior on the 20^th, the price was fair for the amount of space I needed so I reserved my unit. I worked with Dewayne.
Moving is always stressful. I had been loading my Uhual truck all day on January 20^th. Oh boy, was I tired after all that labor!!! You bet!
Jumping back to the 21^st. When I got to the facility, it was clean. Dewayne was knowledgeable. He walked me through my contract, as I read he articulated the requirements of the contract, recited them verbally. Got that done. Immediately after we toured, he showed me my unit. His way of following protocol was customer– friendly and enthusiastic, not overbearing. He striked up conversation with me, we laughed, joked a little which are all ice-​breakers.
I didn’t move my items in immediately because I had more errands to run, in between time. That took up a few more hours time. Hours later, I finally got back moved most of my items with a little bit more to go before being done. I remember getting a phone call and when I picked up I was moving a microwave that was on the passenger side of the Uhaul truck and got distracted. For some reason I left the key in the passenger side dashboard. As I moved the microwave and was talking on the phone, I also locked the door on the passenger side. You guessed! I LOCKED THE KEY INSIDE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DASHBOARD!!! (totally not like my usual self to have done this). I checked and the driver side door was locked too… I called Uhual Customer Service and the only option was to pay a Locksmith because I didn’t spend extra funds I thought I would need on insurance for a Uhual truck. (First time for everything, right?!). Customer Service connected me with a Locksmith, just before I was about to agree to the terms of the Locksmith my phone died. This local Locksmith company’s fee was a charge of $ 125 just to unseal the window and retrieve the key!!! I was upset thinking to myself can this day get any worse?! It did.
After a second attempt at trying to secure a Locksmith it was unsuccessful. My phone died again. So I walked to the office away from the truck in the cold, with no coat. Brrr!!! More time had passed… It was an hour before office closed for the day at 6:00pm.
I asked Dewayne to use the company phone, he allowed me to and had even let me borrow a charger to charge my phone. I called Uhaul Customer Service to get a Locksmith out, I finally did so after a third time. Who wants to pay $ 125 just to get a key out of a vehicle!!! NOT ME. The Estimated Arrival Time (ETA) was 90 minutes. At this point, I had lost my mind. I stayed positive though. I noticed the coffee machine in the office, so I poured some. It was hot & relieved my stress. Dewayne felt my pain… he kept me positive and stayed calm, in turn, helped me to reach a higher level of peace in the situation knowing it would be handled.
It was time to shut the office down. My phone had barely charged. In his van, he drove me to my unit and where I had parked. On the way there I prayed out loud. «Lord, be the key. Bless me with a miracle. Please don’t let me have to wait an extra 90 minutes for a Locksmith.» Dewayne probably thought I was crazy then, I didn’t care.
We got to the truck. DeWayne looked inside. He saw a solution. He grabbed some sturdy metal, but bendable lengthy piece out of his van, he was even able to slide the passenger side window down some. It was just enough space to fit the piece he grabbed inside to possibly hook the key. I guided him on the driver side, looked in to direct him, on the opposite side to move the piece to latch onto the key and reel it out. I came onto the passenger side where he was, while I held the window down. Then, he guided the piece closer to the key to hook onto it. HE DID IT! He reeled the key out. He saved me a wait of 90 minutes and coming out of my pocket to pay another $ 125. I did a praise dance. I thanked him so much.
I couldn’t let him go without an incentive. I actually gave him $ 40. I happily canceled my Locksmith request!!! I was able to get my other items moved completely and returned the Uhaul truck on time.
I GOT THE MIRACLE I PRAYED FOR IN THE MOMENT!!!
