It was my mother’s birthday and, for the first time in 10 years, I was going to be there to celebrate a bit in person.
I was just three hours away, but the snow came. Hardcore Western Mass/​Upstate NY snow, and there was no way I was going to make it.
So I call the first Latham flower shop I find online. The woman picks up and tells me she is about to close because of an event that she is going to. (Not to mention the fact that she was surrounded by snow and probably doing zero business that day)
I briefly describe the situation and, to my surprise, she says «oh we’re going that way anyway» (down a snow-​covered suburban road? yeah right, guardian-​angel-​woman) and gives me ten minutes of her time to make an order, which was delivered, in the snow, when they were planning to close, just a little while later.
Thanks, Fletcher’s, and especially to the woman who answered the phone. I wasn’t joking when I called you an ‘angel’ on the phone. Next time I’m in town, I’m stopping by in person to thank you and get some more flowers for Mom.
