I would like to thank Eric S. for throwing and hosting a UYE. It’s good to see the new bloods doing this. I support UYE’s especially if it’s their first UYE and this was even better because sushi was involved! Upon walking in I saw the group of Unilocalers and introduced myself to Eric and his wife, said hi to Tony and Joanna, then Lisa and Eric, April and Doug, Lindsey and his daughter, and hmm who was that last person? Think Kevin think, comeeeeee onnnn oh yea Anthony M! I showed up and everyone had already taken a shot, so i took one as well. I was thinking we were taking shots of sake but this tasted like Soju. Caught off guard but everyone else was too when they were told it was tea haha. We were hooked up with rolls and more rolls. Thanks for hosting a UYE Eric, can’t wait to attend your next one!

Thanks Eric S for organizing and hosting this UYE at Rising Sun. The event was fun, food was delicious, service was good, the people very friendly and great to hang out with. Plus Chef Tony was very generous with complimentary appetizers, sake and Lychee Saketinis, on top of the items we ordered. Even the music playlist that we listened to the entire time we were there was fantastic. Definitely looking forward to more events like this.

Thank you all who joined me on my first UYE. We had a great time with Lisa and Eric, Tony, Anthony, Kevin, Joanna, Lindsey and his daughter, April and Doug. The owner Tony gave us powerful drinks, sushi specials not on the menu like Blazing sun and free items from the menu including chicken meatballs. He even multiplied many of our orders times three so everyone could have a taste. It was great to get to know new help friends. Thank you again for making my first uye a success.

Talk about a Fat Tuesday party! Eric’s first UYE was amazing. Chef Tony hooked us up beyond words, we thank you so much. I had eaten at Rising Sun many moons ago when it was located in Village Square on West Sahara. It was good then… it’s good now. My husband is an extremely picky sushi eater and everything he tried he liked. And we tried so much! We can officially add another sushi place to the ones Doug will eat at, and there are not many. To get the night started we started with a kampai and a T shot with Chef Tony. Then onto the fresh, delicious sushi. It just kept coming out, I wish I could’ve eaten more because everything was so good. Then Chef Tony treated us all to Happy Endings for everyone after dinner! ;) Woo hoo! It was nice having a small group, making it easier to get to know everyone. Great night, and not just because I had sushi.

Eric S. and his fabulous wife Michelle hosted this lovely event at Rising Sun. A great group of people showed up and I only wish I could have spoken more with April, April’s husband, Lindsey and his daughter, Kevin, and Anthony. Chef Tony gave us these ridiculous«tea» shots which were straight alcohol, and lychee saketinis! I ordered iced green tea and Eric R. had hot green tea. We ordered several nibbles from the happy hour menu(which goes til 8PM!!!) and I really fell in love with 2 things: sauces laced with the umami-esque yuzu, and these beautifully sliced large green onions. The green onions were on everything, so everyone let me eat their green onions that fell off rolls and other fish! I also finally met fellow Houstonian Joanna W. We shared a lot of our grub with each other. My favorites included the complimentary chicken meatball from Chef Tony, the yellowtail lover roll, the scallop sushi, and the mackerel sushi. The chicken yakitori was pretty great too. The scallop was whole and fresh, with just a hint of yuzu. The mackerel was very delicate and nicely cured. I did start off with beef tongue robata, which was very tough and hard to eat, but I managed to chew it all. This place seems to be all about rolls and sashimi, and most of the sashimi options are on the happy hour menu. We tried the wild salmon and the red snapper, both of which were very fresh and delicious. There were some funny roll names, as Tony T. ordered the Miso Yummy and I got a good giggle out of it. We are glad Eric S. decided to host his first UYE and enjoyed the food and the company. It is also great for me to know about another place to chow close to work. Post script: the restaurant put the State of the Union on with closed captioning at Eric R.‘s request.
