In response to «Kathi M’s» recent review of Realty America, I would like to clarify a few of her allegations, as I was present at the time of her visit to the office, and have personal knowledge about the application process in general. First, at no time did the Broker hit her or grab her arm as she has claimed. When this client became belligerent with regards to demanding that her $ 75 credit application fee be returned, she was politely asked to leave. She refused, and became louder in her demands, even though she knowingly signed a disclosure clearly acknowledging her understanding that all credit application fees are non-refundable. At the time of application, this client also provided a separate refundable $ 200 hold deposit, which was politely returned to her in full at the time of this incident. Unfortunately, that proved unsatisfactory to this client, and she has now chosen to follow through with her threats to provide an inaccurate account of events along with a scathing review of this company on Unilocal. Without getting into the details of this particular client’s application results, we did in fact run a comprehensive background pull of credit, criminal, and rental history, contrary to her claim that she had«checked» and it hadn’t been done. As a rule, we must retain all unapproved and/or rejected applications with reports in the property files as a matter of record keeping protocol. She was never guaranteed the property at any time during the process, pending or following her background results. There was another applicant for the same property which was run following Kathi M’s and immediately approved. Again, I will not divulge the reasons why the one was selected over the other, as any reasonable being can figure out one or more reasons without giving much thought. The Broker was kind enough to offer a professional suggestion to the client as what might be helpful in her future attempts with finding a home elsewhere, but at this point she was completely enraged and refused to listen. When the Broker had enough of the scene, she raised her hands to encourage her towards the door and escort her out of the office. The client then pushed the Broker backwards on her shoulder and began yelling, which prompted the Broker to instruct the receptionist to contact the police. It wasn’t until then that the client finally left the office. I would offer to Kathi M. that she may want to retract her review which basically accuses the Broker of assault, as there were two witnesses, one being the receptionist she spoke so highly of that provided a very different account to the police department than hers, as well as myself. Realty America strives to provide exemplary real estate and property management services to our clients. Regardless of what the outside agent may have told them or how they were«approved» elsewhere, we also have an obligation to our owners and the properties we manage. While it’s unfortunate that we were not able to work with these clients at this point in time, it’s a shame that they felt it necessary to act in the manner they did. It just goes to show that everything happens for a reason, and the correct determination was made in the tenant selected for this particular property.
