Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport, according to 2007 figures, Deplanes 23.8 million passengers, Enplanes about the same, for a total close to $ 50 million passengers leaving or arriving annually! That averages to about 136,000 travellers every single day of the year. 1.1 million Enplane to international destinations annually. Now you know why you need to leave a little extra time to get through security! For the shopping Mall(and Casino, for that matter) that are inside McCarran’s terminals and concourses, there is big volume, too. There are about 125,000 square feet of shops and restaurants. Gross sales: Food/Beverage $ 132.8 million Specialty Retail $ 43.9 million News/Gifts $ 49.1 million Duty Free $ 18.7 million That’s nearly a quarter of a Billion with a «B» dollars in sales! The airport collects over $ 32 million in rent from these businesses. Me, well I just bought some snacks and candy for $ 8.58 cents. That transaction was well less than 1/25,000,000th of their total revenue! Makes me feel pretty small. Vegas can do that to you, make you feel small. Once in a blue moon, it can make you feel big, if you are lucky! But eventually and inevitably, you go back to feeling small sooner than later. Las Vegas and all those gleaming gold hotels weren’t built as a result of all the winners that go there and took home their winnings! BTW, BTU is not Hudson News. It is BTU. But, that is not obvious.
