Big 5 Sporting Goods

Product selection is decent, prices are about average, service is lacking– I’ve come in a few times and there are staff present, but no one asks if I need help or addresses me in any way until I am checking out. Store is not particularly organized: resistance bands, yoga mats, and soccer balls and cleats can all be found on the same shelf for no apparent reason. Store is a bit run down but products are new and I have not had any packaging issues. I come here out of convenience, not because this place has anything specific to offer.

This was a pretty successful visit. I went in with something specific in mind that I could not find. I was actually referred here but the scary Wal-​Mart across the street.
I was able to find a sturdy outside camping chair, ended with the floor model and 20 percent off of it to boot.
The manager was very helpful and taking me to the area I needed to be in. He was also quick at showing me the Coleman chair I was looking for to purchase.
The store is jammed packed, really full, they have a little of everything but not a lot of anything. Can certainly find whatever it is that you need.

I kid you not: it has been hotter than hell upstairs in our second story since we moved in a week ago. I have terrorized my poor sweet husband with my remarks about how hard it is to sleep. On the first weekend I Constructed 5 fans faster than you can say «ice bath»!
He was sweet enough to suggest we buy an air mattress and sleep on the lower, cooler floor. I love him so much!
We hopped in the car and raced over to Big Five.
What does he talk about in his loud booming voice in the camping mattress aisle? «Cuddling».
Shhhhh I said: everyone can hear us!
He said: «But if we want to be intimate we may need to go upstairs.»
Even in our regular Queen sauna bed we are not clinging to each other.
Poor guy was so traumatized he picked out a queen high rise plus a twin.
We are sleeping in the cool place tonight.

Plenty of employees but they would rather hide in a corner than help customers. Running Shoe department had decent options but barely any help to speak off.

Today I went to this store to buy my hiking boots, there was this guy, his name is Sergio, he wasn’t rude, but we looked like he hates his job, I asked him for help twice because he didn’t come up to the customers to see if we were doing ok, he got me the boots and left, without saying anything. The two ladies at the register were too nice and friendly :)

Not very impressed. Limited sizes and what seemed like an unorganized selection made this place a little confusing to find specific items. The staff was friendly enough, but I’m not sure it was enough to bring me back here.

This is one of their larger locations which means that its jam packed with stuff… that could be a good thing but this place was like a giant indoor swatmeet for sports and athletic equipment. It took me forever just to find a pump for a football. The staff didn’t really help me out too much. They pointed in a general direction and just kind of walked off. Im happy there is a Big 5 on my side of town so I don’t have to worry about going back to here anytime soon.

I just can’t seem to run out of good things to say about Big 5. Am loving their deals. Over the week, I’ve been looking around for a good pair of binoculars for bird watching up at Red Rock this Sunday when I stumbled upon their weekly ad about a pair of (originally) $ 39.99 pink 10×25 binoculars (my favorite color) that are now being sold for only $ 9.99 with a case, lens wipe and strap!
While I was on it, I made use of the opportunity to look through more hiking essentials and ended up leaving with hand warmers, a cozy beanie (which looks like a cap) as well as a water bottle. Everything added up to to less than $ 40 thanks to the amazing deals. Make sure to keep yourselves on the loop with new deals that come up every week. You could save quite a handful!
And when you reach the counter, ask the cashier for coupons. Chances are they’ll offer you a 10% coupon for your next purchase. Just scribble in your email and print it before you go back to shop the next time around!

Big 5 has good deals but they don’t always have the sizes you are looking for. I came into Big 5 to get a few pairs of shoes for someone, but they only had one size in the most expensive shoe, not the one I was looking for. They called around to the other Big 5’s, but nothing. I do have to say, that the customer service did not pass my Helpful test. They were not enthusiastic about calling around, felt like I made them do a chore. Sorry, I made you work!!! But that was one employee I had to deal with, I can’t say this about all the employees. The store is not located in the nicest area, often there are bums hanging around the store front and I don’t feel incredibly safe with my doors unlocked.

I ate too much sushi, as usual and needed to get some exercise, my friend somehow convinced me to go rollerblading. Ok, so we drove here to get me a pair since I left mine at home.
The store manager was super attentive and helped me find a pair that fit well, AND b/​c it was the demo pair, he gave me a 10% discount. SCORE!

Not a bad little sporting goods store. I usually come here for the sales & discounted items & workout equipment.
This location is pretty well stocked & the staff is somewhat friendly & some are more helpful than others.

I got a second pair of the discontinued hiking boots I like here. I think I’ll have to go around the Valley and clean out the supply in each Big 5.
I called and they had one pair left in my size. They put it away for two days with my name on a tag. I picked up the boots and they are just what I want.
The staff was friendly and very competent. Good store!
