Gjoko Spa & Salon

I have never before written a Unilocal review but this experience was so awful I feel I do have to warn others who may be contemplating spending a lot of money at this Salon. My style cost me just a few dollars shy of $ 400 and I would say it was not even up to the standard of a SuperCuts cut. I was initially thrilled to find a salon like Gjoko in Larchmont as I live locally and dislike taking half a day out to have my hair done in Manhattan. I made an appointment with the owner, Gjoko as he was listed as the Master Stylist and I wanted to ensure I was getting someone very experienced as I wanted a very specific style. It is a style I have had previously and I even brought a photograph along of myself with the hairstyle I wanted. My hair is very thick and the style I wanted involved lots of choppy layers. When Gjoko started working with me he was quite happy to copy the style in the photograph. I had highlights applied first. I asked for two different colored highlights as I was used to having but I only got one. He then started cutting and he grabbed my hair into a ponytail and just cut it off. I had stipulated that I wanted it kept long enough to be able to wear it in an up style also. He cut it right up to the nape of my neck. Throughout this whole time he was telling me what an amazing stylist he is and that no-​one else has his expertise. I was waiting for him to start cutting the choppy layers into my hair but he was getting ready to dry my hair. I told him I wanted layers as my hair is too thick and heavy to just leave in a straight across style. He convinced me that I did not need layers and that when it was dried I would see an amazing transformation. I was so overwhelmed with his stories about how amazing he is that I figured I would see what he did with it. It was awful. There was no style to it, it looked dry and unconditioned and just cut straight across at the back. I tried to live with it for a week but it was just so awful I had to go back to Manhattan and have it completely re-​done at a proper salon. The result is I now have much much shorter hair than I would ever have agreed to, the color he used has dried out my hair so I’m having to use nourishing treatments to bring it back to it’s original health and I am out of pocket to the tune of about $ 650. I emailed the salon to let them know how unhappy I was and they did not even have the courtesy to respond to my email. Beware before considering visiting this salon.

I have been getting my hair done here for about 7 years. I always get compliments on my hair! Gjoko used to do my hair and he always did a great job on the cut and color. For the past few years Christina has been doing my hair and I couldn’t be happier. Everyone here is friendly and professional and I would recommend it to anyone.

Gjokos ruined my hair. They colored my hair ash and over processed my thick blond hair. I ended up spending hundreds of dollars that day to correct the mistake and it still damaged my hair. Integrity is not valued at this establishment. I went there for highlights years ago and they charged me 80 extra dollars for a small trim of the bangs. I thought I would try again this year with someone new. She ruined my long hair, damaged my roots by dying them orange and it was horrendous. They told me it would be 80 for the color. They demanded I pay them 280 dollars because of the toner they had to add to fix it and the highlights to fix it. They are a mess and the owner doesn’t make any effort to check on the work of his staff. He didn’t acknowledge this mistake whatsoever and just allowed this to happen. I ended up leaving with ashy greenish hair, gold roots, thin, dry hair and over 500 dollars broke because someone else had to correct this hugh error. I live in the area and I should have followed my gut because many people have told me that gjokos salon rips people off and makes them pay for their mistakes. My whole family has been charged for processes, such as conditioning, they didn’t ask for. There is nothing positive to say!

I have been a gjoko client for twenty years. They always make you feel special from the moment you enter the door and until you leave. Gjoko always pays attention to detail and the experience is far superior than anywhere else. He is great at giving each person what is right for them, offering suggestions if wanted and listening to you. The place is designed beautifully and I love getting my hair washed and scalp massaged. I was there today3/​20/​14 and not only today but each time after I leave I always receive compliments on my hair.

Gjoko has been cutting my hair for over 15 years. The cuts are great and the salon is clean, well run and everyone is very professional. Gjoko will suggest styles/​cuts, but is always responsive to my needs. My teen boys and daughter also get their hair cut there, and they are happy as well. I would highly recommend this salon!

Gjoko ruined my beautiful thick long hair. I went in for a trim and highlights. Salon was busy and Gjoko seemed stressed. I told him I wanted more long layers to add style to my hair. He was rushing around, picked my hair up in a pony tail and cut it off, taking about 4 – 5 inches of hair off!!! To make matters worse he used a different cutting technique and thinned out my hair resulting in a shag above my shoulder with ends that look chopped and split. The back of my hair had stringy looking tails that did not match the rest of the haircut. I have thick, wavy hair and this cut is very difficult to style.
The worst part is he never discussed this with me prior to cutting. I would have never asked for this style and I am so upset that my hair was chopped off without my permission.
My hair used to be long, thick and beautiful and now it is short, thin and choppy with frizzy ends.

Wonderful salon – I particularly like Castro, who always gives an excellent cut and is very pleasant and friendly. Great staff and you never have to wait long for a cut or color. Highly recommend.

I started going to Johnna here ten years ago. In this time I’ve lived in Boston and currently live in NYC, and I have never found anyone who is as good. This place is better than any salon I’ve ever been in.
Although I’ve never experienced, I’ve heard their message services are very satisfactory as well.

No need to go to NYC for a great hair salon. I’ve been coming here for years, ever since I decided spending a whole day just for my hair (traveling time) was too much.
I always come out looking great. Angie is my regular colorist and cutter. She is a lovely person and knows hair. Gjoko, the owner, is very talented too. The other cutters I’ve had and liked were Kathy and Castro. Everyone at the salon is helpful and friendly. No NYC better-​than-​thou attitudes.
They use Schwarzkopf hair coloring, which are the best– from Germany, so they’re free of unnecessary chemicals. They now offer an organic version which I will try next time.
I never have to wait, which is great. On rare occasions a client messes up the time, but that is unusual. The head massage during shampoo is worth the price of admission.
Upstairs is the hair salon and downstairs is a relaxing massage therapy area. I had a body massage there and it was so relaxing.
The only downside is they don’t accept credit cards, just checks and cash.
