I have eaten at the Crab Trap Seafood Restaurant at least half a dozen times and LOVEIT. The corn and crab bisque is full of jumbo lump crab with a couple crab claws for garnish. The crab«fritters» are really lump crab balls held together with more crab!!! I have those 2 items every time! Fried oysters are sweet and juicy! ALL the boiled seafood is fresh and just the right spice!!! Highly recommend. And the lake view is lagniappe.

Wonderful location but some of the worst seafood dining we’ve had in the area. Any corner store in New Orleans has better food than this place. And the food was only slightly better than the service. Poorly trained, understaffed and completely incompetent service. The kitchen has nothing to be proud of either, however. We ordered the boiled crawfish, but at 1pm on a Sunday they were no longer available. Booo! We ordered 2 beers, a soft shell crab poboy to share, the fried oyster platter and the BBQ shrimp. All dishes were a disappointment and were brought to the table in staggered, extremely delayed times.(after the first two courses our server came over and asked us if we were ready for our check… about 15 min after we had ordered another beer… which finally came after the last dish arrived). The soft shell crab poboy was $ 14 and was shameful in its quality/quantity of crab. The bread was good but I’d rather not pay $ 14 for a piece of bread. The fried oysters were a bit soggy and the fries tasted as if they had been sitting in someone’s car overnight. Finally the last dish came, the BBQ shrimp, the dish we were most looking forward to. It was not our lucky day. The shrimp were small and cold. The broth tasted like the bottom of an aluminum pot, an aftertaste that lasted for hours. I’ve worked in the service industry in New Orleans for many many years and I’ve had my fair share of bad days when you can’t seem to get on top of things but this was by far the worst restaurant nightmare I could ever dream of. We got there when the restaurant was not that crowded and stayed to see it fill up but things were not good from the very start. A glance around the place showed that we were not the only table to be having a crappy time/meal. No smiles. Only stressed out faces. It is one thing to have bad service but eat great food. It is quite another thing to have bad service and food so bad that you wished you hadn’t wasted your money and time you’ll never get back. Next time we’ll go straight to Middendorf’s. ***TIP:If you want good boiled crawfish but want the scenery of Frenier Landing, pick up 5LBS boiled crawfish from Rouses and have a picnic. (This is my first negative review on Unilocal. I strongly recommend you go anywhere but here)

After a long day spent at a local plantation, my class trip traveled to this crappy and slow dining establishment. First off a restaurant that is out of chicken is just a bad idea all around but I mean it is what it is. There we were seated and waited for an hour before 2 out of our 8 person table received a plate of lettuce with ranch dressing and a Caesar salad without shrimp. My friend complained and asked not to have the salad remade with shrimp but she brought it out anyways and remade it before they could even bring out all 6 other meals one of which was literally just a plate of lettuce. we had a time restriction because we had to go to a boat tour at 3pm and we arrived at the restaurant at 2pm. I’m sure you all think our experience could not get any shittier but that’s where you’re wrong. One of us got expired soda and they didn’t even have the decency to serve water in a glass. After an hour passed they finally brought out my friends plate of plain lettuce that I could have put together in 20 seconds. Enough was enough and our tour guide stepped in to get our food sooner. We had to get our food in to-go bags and when they brought out my friends fries she opened the box and it was half a piece of stained corn. The waitress then tried to charge me $ 6 for a glass of tap water that tasted like it came from a toilet. I have to admit the food was good but not good enough to make up for the worst dining experience of my life. We were one of 4 tables in our group that had to wait over an hour to receive our food. Hands down worst dining experience ever. If you visit Louisiana this is the last place you should go to eat.

Best seafood I’ve EVER had, and I’ve dined at some of New Orleans finest… but I don’t want too many people finding out about it because then I would have to wait hours for a meal!!! I had crab critters, seafood gumbo and seafood platter… I will never eat anywhere else locally for seafood again!!!

We visited this restaurant when we were in New Orleans last November. Best and cleanest crawfish I’v ever had! Beautiful lake view from the restaurant. It’s very close to the swamp tour place so would be a good lunch or dinner choice after the tour.

Loved it! When I saw the place on an episode of «The Layover»(most of my culinary exploration comes from Tony… yeah, we’re on a first name basis) I knew that I had to try it. I mean It was so good. The service was pretty lax, but it’s a local– hole in the wall type of place so I was totally cool with that. My girlfriend had the chicken and sausage gumbo which was super good! I had a soft-shell crab po’ boy and three pounds of crawfish. The couple we were with had buffalo shrimp and some sort of seafood platter. Everything was so, so good! If you’re the New Orleans area, please do yourself a favor and make the 30 minute drive out. It’s totally worth it.

What a cool, funky joint this is! We were driving to New Orleans for the long weekend and stopped here for dinner. We had heard about their fresh seafood and local flavor and we were not disappointed. Crab fritters?! Oh my goodness, yes!!! Order them… thank me later. I had the boiled crawfish which were seasoned and spiced nicely, but still a little small. It’s early in the season so I can forgive that. Handsome Man had the BBQ crabs and they were so very tasty. This was the perfect warm up to our weekend adventure and Crab Trap is on my list of «must return» restaurants!

Amazing food and service! Sharon took really good care of us, since we had to be introduced to how to eat 3lbs of crawfish. Their soft shell crabs are out of these world, the batter and mayo sauce are a great combination! I would definitely recommend this place if you like to chat, eat and drink

Great setting at the edge of lake Pontachartain. Food was good. We had the crab fritters which we very tasty in the mustard sauce. The BBQ shrimp in burbon sauce was ok could have been better if it was deveined. The shrimp and crab Yes being in Texas the winters are not as bad as up north it’s a bit like Gauteng Winter. was good with a fair amount of seafood mixed in the pasta. Overall the service is prompt and pleasant but won’t be going back in a hurry.

I absolutely love the crab fritters and boiled shrimp. Bread pudding is super fresh with an amazing rum sauce. I can’t wait for crawfish season to kick into full swing. I also really enjoyed the shrimp scampi. It has a flavorful butter sauce that is delicious. I would recommend trying this place before the word spreads and you end up on a waiting list.

This is a nice place that sits right along Lake Pontchartrain, you get a perfect view of the lake while dining. This is truly the best place for seafood! The BBQ Shrimp are a MUST! The boiled crabs are delicious & not too spicy, you can actually taste the crab & not just the seasoning, they really do an excellent job! They also make you feel right at home, very comfortable place to eat!

Had the bbq crab appetizer. Outstanding, but you need to know how to pick a crab! The crab and seafood bisque had gorgeous amounts of crab, but tasted more like creamed corn out of a can. My fried soft shell crab platter was perfect! I wish I had tried the boiled shrimp, as just about everyone had some.
