Country House Restaurant

My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful experience here for breakfast!!! We had come into town for a wedding. Our car had gotten a flat tire a mile down the road! So we decided to walk down from Fort Awesome to get a big breakfast. This place is your good olé’ country diner type spot!!! The staff was friendly! I’m assuming the lady that waited on us my have been the owner. Not sure! LOL I loved the fact that when anyone walked in she knew them all!!! And would call out a friendly greeting or funny comment! I usually don’t eat a big breakfast but I went all out! Got a breakfast plate with tenderloin, scrambled eggs, grits, and wheat toast. Also ordered an extra side of home fries! The plate was a good size! If you want a friendly and homey atmosphere with great food this is the place!!!

Simple down home cooking at reasonable prices. The food and service were both good. This restaurant is off the tourist trail and is basically patronized by the locals and caters to their needs. The locals like it because it seems to be always packed and everyone knows everyone else. There is a simple basic but fresh salad bar and a variety of hard packed ice creams to choose from. I personally had the smothered (i.e. very lighly sauted green peppers, onions, mushrooms and a slice of cheese melted on) chicken breast filet. It came with a choice of a trip to the salad bar or slaw, a choice of French fries or baked or sweet potato and choice of freshly cooked rolls or hush puppies. All for under $ 7.00. The only negative was that although the French fries were hot and crispy, they tasted like they were made from frozen. They serve serve seafood, fish, meat and a variety of down home style meals in a very friendly setting
