Capital Prime is basically located in the parking lot of the Hyatt in the Eastwood Towne Center complex where we were staying, so my boyfriend and I stopped in on Saturday night around 8pm. It wasn’t too crowded and we got seated right away. Compared to those around us, we were definitely underdressed in jeans and sweatshirts, but we didn’t really care. There is no formal dress code. I loved the atmosphere of Capital Prime, with dark blues and black décor. Our server greeted us right away and took our drink order. She was friendly and asked if we had any questions. I ordered the 6oz filet with an added Caesar salad, plus anchovies. My boyfriend ordered the hangar steak with Caesar salad. Shortly after we ordered, she brought a bread basket with rolls and some interesting flatbread/lavash type cracker things. The salads were composed well with the right amount of dressing. There were 4 large anchovies on each, which was a bit much — I could have done with two since they are super salty(but very delicious)! They are optional, so no worries if you don’t like them! Our steaks came out and they were plated really well. Each came with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables(carrots and green beans). I ordered my steak rare and it was cooked properly. The cut was not as nice as some that I have had at Chop House, but for $ 30(including the sides), I wasn’t complaining! My boyfriend’s hangar steak was also cooked to his liking. The vegetables were undercooked and a bit crunchier than I would have liked, but they were a nice accompaniment. The potatoes were pretty salty, and a large portion so I only ate about ¼ of them. Overall, for the price point, this is an excellent choice for steak. My only complaint was when the bill came, both the entrees were $ 2 more than listed on the menu. We didn’t end up mentioning it, because the prices are very reasonable for the meals. Just make sure to check the bill before you pay! As we were leaving, live music had started at the bar — actually on a tiny stage behind(and a bit above) the bar itself. I thought it was pretty cool(and it wasn’t too loud). If I stay at the Hyatt again, I will probably stop in to Capital Prime.

If you haven’t tried the new Capital Vine adjacent to Capital Prime, you are missing a real treat. The expansive wine selections and unique light menu made this my new favorite place. The brie and the lobster tail are two choices to match perfectly with any of a number of wines. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. All of that adds to the upscale ambiance of the Vine.

We came here for a small birthday party. We were greeted by an angry black woman… I only mention her race as I hope to assist you in avoiding her terrible attitude. She put us in a small room that has a four top table and a larger family table. We were seated just after the larger table that was filled with a group of very excitable middle aged women that had clearly not had a night away from their kids In a long time. After sitting for 15 minutes the excited women started feeling their Moscow Mules and thus the volume began to climb. Luckily their waitress noticed out displeasure and was able to get us seated in he main area. The evening went up from there. Their steaks are really really good and the staff is beyond nice… minus angry black woman.

We ate here tonight(7 of us, ages 40 – 87) for my Mom’s birthday. I was leery as the reviews I read were so inconsistent re quality & response. Alex was our server & she was pretty amazing. She was patient & responsive to questions, gave recommendations readily & addressed two issues to the satisfaction of my Dad & my brother. Dad felt his perch was undercooked & that the veggies were so undercooked as to be inedible. Alex spoke to the manager & the meal was removed from the bill. My brother wanted to take his Portobello Ravioli home & the busser threw it away while Alex went to get another box. The chef made David fresh ravs to take home. All in all-we were pleased & I’d go back.

Great meal and service. Had the shrimp and pasta dish. Was prepared perfectly. Cesar salad was slightly bland, but overall, this is a solid new upscale dining option in Lansing area.

Came here for lunch with family. The quality is comparable to something like Applebee’s. The restaurant itself is very pretty, but the food is substandard. My prime rib sandwich had little to no flavor. My sister ordered her steak to be pink in the center and it was definitely well done. My parents were able to finish their meals(salmon and perch), but neither liked their meal. I would definitely not come back here.

This was my first time visiting Capital Prime. I’ve heard plenty of radio advertisements, as well as seen billboards placed around the greater Lansing area. I was intrigued. I wanted to take my wife out for a nice dinner, different than what we usually venture out to. Needless to say, I was impressed. The décor is inviting, warm, and a pleasant change from traditional fine dining. Capital Prime is casual fine dining — as in, you don’t need to be in a suit and tie, and be all dressed up to have a good meal/fine time out. Outside is a covered patio, to which you can dine near one of two fireplaces, or just socialize. There are also private dining rooms for parties, or for a more intimate setting/gathering. The bar is a pretty cool place to seat yourself at: a deep neon blue, like you’re under a blue moonlight, kicking back a few drinks after a long day working the grind, or shooting the breeze with friends, family, or strangers. I’m not sure if the light itself changes by day, but for this dining experience, I will state it was said color. Everything is accessible, easy to navigate, with the ability to inquire help for special needs if you require it. Since it is rather open, and there are a fair amount of people, it’s moderately loud, but you can still have a normal conversation and hear whomever you’re conversing with. They also possess a kids’ menu, for those under 12 yrs. old which can be found under their site, as well as in person. The staff is friendly, personable, and spot on for great service. They’re not snobs, stiffs, or intimidating; they’re professional, and will share a laugh with you. Glancing over the menu, yes, the cost is reflected. You may be startled at first, however, I assure you… the quality is definitely in the price. The portions are at an ideal size; not too much, not too little. We started off with two appetizers; ahi tuna tartar, and the spicy stuffed poblano peppers. The tuna was melt in your mouth, with avocado, ponzu, ginger, while the crispy wontons were just that — crispy! Fork a heap of this beauty onto a wonton, and munch away. It was fantastic — and I am not a fan of tuna, nor is my wife a fan of avocado. Next up, the spicy stuffed poblano peppers… habanero cheese with serrano chilies served up creamy, stuffed in a poblano pepper, with jalapeño salsa verde to add. It wasn’t incredibly spicy, had a subtle kick(then again, we love spicy foods anyways), and had a crunchy topping. Wonderful appetizers. For dinner, I ordered the prime dry-aged New York strip, with a blue cheese crust,(and zip sauce), medium(personal preference), that came paired with seasoned asparagus, and boursin whipped potatoes. My wife had frutti di mare, which was an angel hair pasta dish served with scallops, shrimp, mussels, calamari, and clams tossed in a tomato broth. Our first bites were very impressionable, and left a everlasting impression. Dessert was also a great experience. My wife had the carrot cake, and I had the flourless chocolate cake. NOTE: the chocolate cake… or torte, is indeed as it says, rich and decadent. You will want to take it slow. It comes with raspberries, blackberries, whipped cream, and blueberries, with a raspberry sauce. It was excellent. The carrot cake comes with little dabbles of extra icing, and swirls of caramel. So if you’re a fan of caramel… you’ll love it, in addition to liking carrot cake — it’s a win/win. Tl;dr, it was nothing short but the best steak dinner I’ve had out, and the best seafood dish my wife has had in a long time at a restaurant. It’s a bit pricey, yes, but as I will say, it was worth every cent spent on an intimate night out to enjoy ourselves. Needless to say, we will be back… mayhap for lunch.

My wife and I went there on a Tuesday evening to celebrate a property closing. We sat on the patio, which was very nice and comfortable. I have been here for a drink previously, and did not like the décor inside. I would describe it as dark, and strangely pretentious. The calamari appetizer was very good. I had the strip, which was excellent, and cooked perfectly. The sides were too small, but acceptable. My wife’s scallops. were cooked as she liked them, which is worth noting, as she is a food snob, who complains often about how every restaurant does not know how to cook scallops properly. My cocktails were excellent. Our server was prompt without hovering, and friendly. I would rate five stars, but within minutes of paying with a credit card that I rarely use, my credit card had an unauthorized charge for World of Warcraft. I will go here again, and pay with cash.

Just beware of purchasing gift cards. 20% gratuity is automatically added so you need to check and make sure you are charged for the gift card value only. Receipts don’t matter. Check your bank transaction. I bought a $ 100 gift card and yet $ 120 was taken out of my account. Scott the manager should be aware of this issue.

I am sorry to say that this place is just taking a stab at being high end; the quality of the food(and forget the seafood, it’s not good at all especially the oysters rockafeller and the scallops — very amateurishly made). The steak, ehhhhh… Not for the price, and how is it possible for a true steakhouse not to understand medium plus??? I had the pleasure of watching the owner in action with select guests and was very put off by his arrogance and self appointed elite status. My suggestion… Make all your guests feel welcome not just a select few, we are in Lansing and you need the business im sure. Food is ehhh, the ambience is cheekily put together to look slick but it’s outdated contemporary, and the ambience is unnecessarily pretentious for no good reason.

HOLYCOW! This place was very impressive. From the moment we walked in the door we knew we were in for a treat! Hostess was friendly, waiter was prompt. Our Waiter had great recommendations, knew his specials, even had great ideas for food & drink pairing. The meat was just cooked to perfection on my steak. The blue cheese crust, was just perfect. It all melted in my mouth. We went for a birthday celebration & they have a good treat for the birthday girl. The mouse was free or any other dessert was only $ 2. heck of a deal. We will be back again, this place was classy!

Nice ambiance like everyone says. I typically go during the week for business. Last time was on Memorial Day, great service, good food. I stick with my favorite chambord martini and lamb shank every time, it is delicious!

Business lunch was excellent besides the fly that snuck in. I had the chicken picatta after asking my waiter. I also had the side of kale salad with an alternate cheese. Both were excellent. The chicken was enough to split in my opinion. The rice with sauce was really nice. I didnt care too much for the bread, it was ok. But the crisps/flatbread were amazing, buttery and a perfect crunch. Tea was good, atmosphere was good. I will go back.

Came here for graduation dinner with absolutely no idea what the place was. My table ordered almost every appetizer and they were all outstanding. The steak is their claim to fame and I have to stand by them. Very nice restaurant inside, but I’m wondering what the catch is because it wasn’t packed at all and no one seems to know about the place.

We’ve been to Capital Prime dozen times now, and while it’s certainly one of the best fine dining options in the immediate area, it isn’t consistent in service or quality. At its best, the service truly is 5 stars and the food is artfully prepared and served hot. At its worst, service takes strangely too long and half the servers seem annoyed to even be there, while a steak ordered medium well can come nearly rare, which is an unforgivable steakhouse sin. Standout dishes include the zesty shrimp appetizer. I cannot get enough of these perfectly crispy and saucy morsels. The tables fights over them every time. The Sugar Smack Salmon is better than their filet, and a nice hearty twist on traditional salmon dishes. Their quinoa rice is always welcome as well. I would avoid steak here, despite CP’s steakhouse claims. More often than not my table mates end up disappointed with their steak. The crème brûlée dessert when served warm is A+ but often comes out nearly cold and very milky. I worried about food poisoning the first time it happened. I still really like Capital Prime for its décor, overall ambience, and outdoor seating area(looking into a movie theatre parking lot, but I digress!) and will continue to come here to celebrate, but five stars… Eh… It’s just not there yet.

Just tried this place yesterday for an early vday dinner. This place is just hmm let’s say mehhhhh. Food: appetizers we chose were the calamari and the ahi tuna tartar. The calamari itself was good but the sauce it came with was basically just butter, I think if they changed that to even a marinara or sweet and soy sauce it would’ve definitely made a difference. Tuna tartar was probably the only good thing about this place. Soup came with the entrees so I decided on the lobster bisque which was oddly very very creamy and needed some of their crackers from their bread basket to cut the creaminess. The bf decided on the seafood chowder, which was very hearty and very good. Entrees: let’s just say the bf’s ribeye was not 12oz. It was the thinnest ribeye I’ve ever seen! Flavor was pretty good but mostly composed of butter. The cook on it was medium well vs the medium he asked for but the sides were good. I decided on the scallops and shrimp risotto, bad idea. Risotto was so salty and hard, I barely ate it. Good seared scallops. Me and my bf are not ones to complain about our meals because of the paranoia we have about angry waitresses/cooks, plus we were still going to get dessert also. So we basically ended up with 2 full meals in to go boxes. For dessert we decided on the flour less chocolate cake, which was basically a triangle of chocolate with raspberry syrup on the side. It was okay. Probably going to stick with cake made with flour :) Service wise: The waitress we had took very long to take our orders. The soup my bf ordered ended up being an extra $ 4 but the waitress said nothing about it until we asked her about the charge when we received our bill. I don’t mind $ 4 but really it would’ve been nice to know. We couldn’t help to feel neglected when we saw the next table’s waiter being so attentive to his dinners. And there was really no excuse for our waitress because it was not busy at all. All in all is this really a steakhouse worth trying? Mmmm maybe not. I don’t think the food is worth the price and service is not up to par for what seems to be a «fancy» restaurant.

I got the ribeye with a house salad. The decorations and all of that were cool. I agree with my co-worker though, I couldn’t tell if I was in an upscale restaurant or a club. Strange. Anyways, the service was pretty good, but you server was trying a bit too hard. He was a little over and above what you need as far as table chatter. Two from our party inquired about dessert and their options. The server thought they were kidding and walked off. He didn’t return. Very strange. Now on to the food. The house salad was blah. I hate food that is dominated by one flavor. The cucumber just ate it alive. I will give credit to the server for bringing me a different option to make up for it. The ribeye that I got was great and I can’t complain. I do prefer a cut of meat that is meant, salt, and pepper… in that order, but I did enjoy the sauce and all of that. The mashed potatoes were the hit of the evening. So so so good. If I were to go back, I would be tempted to get a bowl of mashed potatoes. I am almost not kidding. Anyways, I wouldn’t mind going back, but I would probably try something else just to say I tried something else. There wasn’t really anything reeling me back in. Decent job, crew.

We came back! And this time, we tried: –sirloin au poivre: it was okay but still overcooked. Bf still liked the cheesy whipped potatoes. –filet mignon: still our fave. I decided to upgrade the whipped potatoes to fries, and the chef made the garlic aioli sauce I loved so much last time! love love love the fries here. The seasonal vegetables were a too salty but I like how they offer my 3 faves(broccoli, carrots, green beans). Other things worth noting: –we went for a fri night dinner and had no issues even though we didn’t make reservations –the meat here is overcooked, so request it one level down from what you usually get –IMO, the French onion soup is the best so just pay for the upgrade haha

Capital Prime, you either love it or hate it apparently, at least according to Unilocal. Our experience was great! Living in Chicago I am familiar with upscale restaurant dining and I loved the décor at CP. The restaurant is done in dark greys and decorated lovely in sliver for Christmas, it felt very cozy. I wholeheartedly disagree with ‘The R’, ‘The décor was a poor attempt at classy, but comes across as a late 90s/early 2000s nightclub’, clearly missing some Mid-west manners! Complementary bread was good and served with a delicious herb infused butter! Ahi Tuna Tartar(GF) $ 13.50 — Sashimi grade tuna, avocado, ginger, ponzu, and crispy wontons — Delicious and messy. Served in a martini class with 4 large wontons, though more were brought out upon request. Macadamia and Coconut Crusted Mahi-Mahi & Kale salad upgrade $ 23.50 + $ 2.50 — Fresh wild caught Florida Keys Mahi sautéed and served with fresh mango relish. — The crispy coating was great but fish was not as flaky as I would prefer. Served with flavorful fresh green beans cooked with tomatoes and a pretty basic pyramid of wild rice. Kale salad just didn’t do it for me, I think I am used to salads that are only partial kale, it was just too bitter and tough for me. Though the server noticed I didn’t eat it and had it taken off the bill. Prime Rib Special and Seafood Chowder upgrade $ 26 + $ 2.50 — Was a large portion size served with a spicy horseradish sauce and Aus Jus, as well as green beans and amazing super crispy potatoes. The seafood chowder was surprisingly a broth based soup and not cream based as most chowders, but was delicious with toasted bread for dipping and loads of seafood! Crème Brulee $ 6 — Good, would love if it was served in a more shallow dish so you didn’t end up with just custard left at the end, but you will be too full to finish it anyways! This will not be a cheap meal but a great place for a special night out, head next door to Tony Sacco’s for pizza to save a little dough, its great!
