Located on a quiet street in a back neighborhood of Lansdale, you’ll never happen upon Smoke Rack unless someone specifically told you to go there. Despite it’s unfortunate location and rather shabby indoor seating area, this place isn’t as bad as people have been making it out to be. The meats are fairly flavorful with a nice smoked taste. The fries are typical, but the nachos are so so. I’ve heard that this a BYO establishment but I only ever make it for lunch. Closed on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday with an openings time the other days at 12 noon, I think they are hurting themselves and missing some of the lunch rush. Overall, the food isn’t mind blowing, but it’s certainly not bad either. In the beginning there was some inconsistency in food preparation, but it looks like they got it worked out.

This place should be way busier on a Saturday evening. The food was awesome, the service was friendly, and the beer was cold, because we brought our own(BYOB). All the meat was smoked fresh this morning, as it is every morning. Unfortunately this place is off the beating path, so most people may not know about it, but I think they should find out. I will definitely be back. Yum!

Everything I’ve had from here has been amazing. The smoked salmon sliders and catfish po-boy are insanely good. My boyfriend has had both their brisket and BBQ beef sandwiches and he loved them both, even though they taste very different. As far as sides go, their seasoned fries kind of taste like really great BBQ chips, their nachos are really unique, and even their mac and cheese has their spice blend in it. I’m making myself hungry just thinking about it :)

I recommend the«BBQ Brisket Sandwich» with very thinly sliced smoked beef brisket smothered in a thin house BBQ sauce, and served in a small thin hoagie roll($ 9.99, is fairly expensive). That’s a lot of THIN, but a nice sandwich. However, don’t expect your traditional BBQed brisket sandwich. Ribs, beans and slaw are fine, but the quarter BBQed chicken was way over-cooked(sounds like a consistent problem). Friendly staff. Parking is easy on the street out front. BYOB.

Don’t order the brisket — overcooked, overpriced and sliced WRONG! How can you claim to be an expert in BBQ and not know how to slice brisket? It was dry, overcooked and flavorless. And I’ve never been to a restaurant that did not credit you for the food you didn’t care for or the food that wasn’t prepared correctly — he even admitted he’d left it too long to cook but still didn’t refund the price of the brisket. Too bad, it’s a cute little place but we won’t be repeat customers.

found this place on Unilocal and was disappointed with the food. Brisket had no smokey flavor and was watery. Pork was only a bit better than the brisket. The corn had more smoke flavor than both brisket and pork so as long as you eat the corn with the meat, at least you get smokey flavor.

Situated in what appears to be a former neighborhood bar, the Smoke Rack is plain and simple but clean and comfortable. My husband has an unusual food allergy and the server and owner both did a great job checking ingredient lists and making helpful suggestions. Let me start by saying we’re from Texas so we have specific ideas of what constitutes BBQ. We tried the sampler platter which includes chicken, pork, and ribs, with sides of mac n’ cheese and smoked corm. The ¼ chicken and 3 ribs were both overcooked but not too dry. Pulled pork was moist with no discernible smoke or even rub flavor. We also ordered some brisket, which was pale and sliced super-thin, almost shaved, and accompanied by an au jus-type liquid. It would score much higher in my book as a moist, tender, lean roast beef but bears no resemblance to BBQ in preparation or presentation. No visible seasoning or bark on any of the meats except some rub on the ribs and only the chicken bore a smoke ring, although it still lacked flavor. Sauce, served on the side, was a little thin and seemed a cross between fairly standard BBQ sauce and eastern-style vinegar sauce. Mac n’cheese was fair, surprisingly al dente, but a little on the bland side. Smoked(kernel) corn had an unusual texture and so-so flavor. Certainly not a terrible meal but not even close to true BBQ in our book so our search continues.

The smoke rack is located on a side street a few blocks off of Main Street in Lansdale. They don’t have a parking lot but there are plenty of spaces on the street. The inside of the restaurant is wide open and they have about 10 tables. Tony(owner) is very friendly and really makes everyone feel at home. I was with a group of six so we shared the nachos and Pork Jalapeño Poppers. I’m usually not a big fan of nachos but these are made in house and fried to order. We added pork to our order and the plate was picked clean. The Pork Jalapeño Poppers were spicy so if you don’t like spice these are not for you. I wanted to try as many different meats as possible so I split a few things with one of my friends. We had a ½ rack of pork ribs, brisket platter & pulled pork platter. The ribs were my favorite. They were cooked perfect and had great flavor. The brisket and pork were moist and served without sauce. The brisket is sliced thin which I’m not used to. I prefer large chunks of brisket with pieces of the outside crust mixed in. My girlfriend had the smoked chicken cheese steak. I tried some and it was top notch. It’s served on a fresh hand cut round bun. The chicken was moist and seasoned well. We didn’t order desert but Tony brought out an order of their bread pudding. It reminded me of a cross between a sticky bun and french toast. I HIGHLY recommend you save room after dinner to try this! I wasn’t blown away by the food but I will be stopping in again.

If you love BBQ, don’t eat here. This is the worst BBQ I have ever had. I ordered the brisket, and it was dry dry dry. They gave us extra BBQ sauce, so I tried dipping it in the sauce, and there was so much Apple Cider Vinegar in it that I couldn’t eat it. I ordered the Mac N Cheese and the Collard Greens. The Mac was okay, the best part of my meal, but I still would only give it a 4 on a scale of 1 – 10. There was little flavor, and looked more like macaroni salad then mac n cheese. The collard grens we absolutely AWFUL. They are dry, and flavorless, even the bacon has no flavor. I couldn’t even choke it down. I’ve never eaten anything with so little flavor. Don’t do it.

OK, I just left this place and I will say this, The owner, Tony, has smoking meat down to a science. His restaurant is just what you would expect a smokehouse to be. Cozy and casual with some mind blowing Barbeque. I had to bring some home to hold me over until I can get back here. Great family place with a very complete menu. BYOB too. I had the Pulled Pork sandwhich with some special season fries. Very Good.
