Paradigm Salon & Spa

My wife came here recently and was very upset that she has to give a poor review. She has gone to many salons in the area and finally decided to stay with Paradigm because she liked the people who worked there, the salon was clean, and prices seemed reasonable. However, at her most recent hair appointment, she was deceived in having to pay extra $ because her stylist had to use more coloring for her hair. My wife has been getting her hair colored and treated for the past several years and with every salon she has gone to, she has never had to pay more for «extra» color because she has «a lot of hair.» The front desk making the appointment quoted her $ 55 when she asked at the end of that conversation how much she’d be charged. Never once did she say that my wife may be charged more if the stylist needs to use extra color. My wife even opted out of the additional $ 30 blow dry because that price seems ridiculous. Really? We live less than 10 minutes from home and blow dry at home for free. That’s a whole different story, sorry, I digress.
Bottom line, if you come to this salon and get your hair colored, make sure you are aware that they will slap an additional $ 15 if they think you have «too much hair.» They were never up front about that and never bothered to even ask my wife whether she was okay with this. It’s like paying a certain amount to get a car oil changed but then not being told that you were going to be charged more because the mechanic did extra work on the car. HELLO? You gotta ask before you add additional charges without their knowing. It’s called good customer service and common courtesy.

The salon looks modern, and very clean. Front desk girls are very friendly. I went in for a gel manicure with Mae. She’s the nicest, friendliest nail tech I’ve ever encountered. Not even joking. She actually talks to you! The gel manis are really $ 30 and not $ 25. They’re only $ 25 if it’s your first time getting gel polish on your nails, the extra $ 5 is for them to soak off the previous gel polish. With that said, I like the fact that they soak off the polish and not use a dremel on your nails so there’s less damage.

Love Paradigm! I’ve been going for several years now and Kelly is the best. I could have easily switched salons when moving to Manhattan but I chose to stay with Paradigm because of the fabulous and consistent service. Everyone is courteous, the salon is clean, and I have never had a bad hair cut — even when my stylist has been away or on vacation and I’ve dealt with others. Most importantly the reception staff is attentive — always asking clients when leaving if they wish to schedule their next appointment and placing a reminder call a few days prior to an appointment.
I completely recommend Kelly — shes friendly, down to earth, and does a great job!

Great ambience. Staff nice. Great place for nails. Acrylics are only $ 25 for a full set. Around $ 15 for refills. That’s a deal in this neighborhood. They don’t skimp either… Massage and hot towel included. Mae does a good job!

What a wonderful salon atmosphere! I recently had my third visit to paradigm. The atmosphere is chic but relaxing. Ask for Hilary for any cut, style, and blow dry. She’s so knowledgable and really loves to make her clients happy. You won’t be disappointed! Definitely make an appointment though because they get very crowded!

I do love this salon and my stylist is great! I would rate it 5 stars but Angela at the front desk is the worst! It’s mind boggling how she is allowed to sit at the front desk with her rude personality. You would think the owners would have a friendlier and more personable employee at the front desk greeting customers. Would it kill her to smile and greet you when you check in? Even when she calls to confirm the appt, she is still rude on the phone. If she doesn’t want to be friendly, she should leave and quit OR even just stay in the back room. It is very unfortunate that the owners have Angela working at their salon. Not a good representation! If you can get over Angela’s rude personality, then I would suggest this salon. Great stylists are there and good value for the $$.

I absolutely love getting my haircut. A good haircut will lift my spirits for months. When I unexpectedly lost my loved hairdresser I didn’t know what to do. I let my hair grow and grow in fear of a bad haircut. A friend recommended Kelly at Paradigm Salon and it was exactly what I needed. Kelly always does a great job and I trust that she will always give me a great haircut. I don’t have anything to add about reception because they’ve never offended me or at least I haven’t noticed. I care more about my interactions with my stylist (I mean that’s really what counts).

As soon as I entered the salon, I was excited because they had a great ambiance set up to welcome you and the receptionist was friendly. My excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I was assigned a junior stylist after I made an appointment with Rose. The junior stylist asked me if I wanted to keep the warm color of my highlights and I said yes since I have a warm skin tone. Next I was asked what color I wanted them and I told her not as white blonde as the previous stylist did since I have a dark olive skin tone the white blonde would look trashy. She then said so you would like honey/​caramel blonde. I received none of what I asked. She gave me «cool» and the lightest blonde highlights. I’m not sure if I was treated inconsiderately because they felt they could get away with treating me differently than the rest of their clientele. Very disappointed customer.

Very chic (but unpretentious) salon in Newtown. Chrissy is my go-​to lady for highlights, and she always does a fabulous job. They’ve also got great mani/​pedi specials.

I was able to call in to book a last minute manicure/​pedicure. A cute little salon/​spa in the Giant shopping center. Good selection of polish and had a little flat screen TV by the pedicure station. The salon was pretty busy during the day so they must be doing something right!
Oh, double plus for being in the suburbs! I can park my car and run to the salon in flip flops/​no coat! Something I miss when I’m in the city and have to worry about where I’m going to park my car and that my feet are going to freeze after the pedicure when I’m walking back to my car parked 5 blocks away!

You feel great walking into this full service Salon and Spa, because of the friendliness, cleanliness and the attention to you it brings. You feel even better when walking out.
Let’s start with Sunita. She is a massage therapist from the Islands. She is quite tall and she does not speak much, but her hands speak volumes. The music is on, the candles are lit, the warm oils are massaged into your skin. You have been transitioned to a faraway land called Paradise. Ms. DJ, wake up! Ah yes, I want to go back to sleep, perchance to dream some more.
Moving right along, with a cup of coffee in hand, my Stylist is waiting for me. Janet is one of their Senior Stylists. She is warm and friendly and will chit chat away or not, after she feels your needs for it. She is a perfectionist at coloring and you always leave happy with her cuts.
Kudos to Sunita again, if your are fortunate enough to have her give you your shampoo. I keep falling asleep. Oh massage the head, neck and shoulders a little more please.
Onto my manicurist, Titi. What a sweetheart and all she does is giggle. She has won me over and she is the only one who I will let do my manicures and pedicures. She takes her time and gives you another wonderful massage. Geesh this place puts me to sleep ;+}
Titi also loves to inflict pain and remember I told you she giggles. In that separate little room, with the door closed, she applies the hot wax. I brace myself for what is to come next. She then rips off the tape and I sit straight up and call her every name in the book. She giggles and does it some more. I’m awake already!
For a full unpretentious, but professional Salon & Spa give yourself a treat and a few zzz’s and giggles.

I have been living in Boston for years and still wait until a visit home to have Janet do my hair! She gives a great cut that never fails! I have also had my hair done by Carmen and reccomend them both. The salon also does nails– one stop does it all. Great atmosphere and the staff is always friendly.
