This is the number 1 happening joint in downtown Landrum. It’s a great spot for a nice tasty well presented meal. The theme is an old Irish Bar but caters mainly for food with a full bar of course. Outside dining also available but is usually really busy on a cooler day. Foodwise there is a great mixture of classic Irish food with an American twist and simpler bar food. Burgers are tasty enough but in my opinion not as nicely presented as the rest of the menu. The pot pie is a favorite as is the steal and ale pie. Altogether the place is generally outstanding. Great atmosphere and the staff are really good and seem to enjoy working there. Food is excellent and it caters for most tastes. Yum…

We stumbled onto this place when we had planned on going somewhere else. Boy were we lucky! Had the ribs with a fried pickle appetizer. The best. Sat on the patio and it was a wonderful overall experience.

This review is actually from two years ago, but since this place still sticks in my head as one of the best places that I have EVER eaten, I felt like it was time to type up a review… My wife and I were out adventuring for our anniversary and ended up in Landrum around lunch time. We liked the look of the place, a real Old World, English pub feel, and decided to pop in for a bite. It was the best idea of the day! We ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and it was fabulous! The crust was flakey and buttery and it literally melted in my mouth. The interior was even better. The filling was full of chunks of veggies and chicken and the sauce was thick and savory, without being overly gooey or too much like soup. It was as good as I make at home! The waitress who helped us(sorry that I could not remember her name!) was very pleasant and attentive and even spent about ten minutes with us explaining how the pub came to be and how it got it’s name(I have since forgotten the details). Overall, this place is one of the best restaurants that I have been to in my life and is certainly the best that I have been to in South Carolina. If you find yourself out there on Highway 176(or Hwy 14), make sure to stop and indulge yourself in the excellent food and ambiance that is the Hare & Hound.

I had a very good experience here. The staff were friendly and attentive, the food was yummy, and the atmosphere was a pleasant dark, rich pub style. We had the Shepard’s pie which was not exactly like a typical pie, but in a good way. The sauce was really rich and meaty, the only complaint is it was a bit salty. Then also had the pimento burger and WOW, BESTPIMENTOCHEESE! The menu was quite varied, so it’s mainly pub/bar food, but also some café type things and a bit of their own take on things. Also had a black and tan which seemed appropriate and it was great. It’s not too far from the interstate and I would definitely come back, and recommend you try it out as well.

Great food and outstanding customer service! One day I left my favorite baseball hat behind after lunch, just before getting on a plane to return home to California. The folks at Hare and Hound kindly mailed it back to me! Awesome! Thank you!

Had a wait outside a while for a group of 7, not too bad just means it was busy. I ended up having the honey child and it was good. I would go again if i came back to town.

Great fun and the atmosphere is cool. The folks who work there go out of their way to be sure you are having fun. Amanda rocks! The food is good and there is a ton of variety on the menu. I think that based on the crowds many folks agree.

What a wonderful find in a lovely small town! Friendly people, delicious food, great décor! We needed a snack and the Fried Pickle Chips were hot, crispy and tasty! Topped it off with the Bread Pudding with a Carmel apple sauce… oh my… warm, sweet, Southern comfort dessert! Finished everything off with true Southern Sweet Tea! We will certainly come by here for a whole meal soon!

We are staying near Asheville, NC where the farm manager told us about this place– he said he used to drive from DC just to eat some of their food. Umm— really? Drive an hour away in the rain for food?! Yes, sign us up. We ordered the chicken pot pie and honey child chicken sandwich — both were flavorful, yummy and different. The chicken pot pie had huge chunks of white chicken meat and tasted like thanksgiving. The chicken salad sandwich had slivers of almond, egg whites and honey inside which made for an interesting combo– I liked the sweet but it was almost too sweet. The fries were thick and flavorful and just the type I like. Service was great and I liked the pub/old-timey feel of the place. Would I drive from DC here for food? No. But would I go again if close enough? Definitely.

The Hare and Hound catered my wedding reception, and my wife and I could not have been happier. In short: The price was extremely reasonable, they cooked the exact items we wanted and didn’t restrict us to a particular menu, the staff was perfect and professional even though the venue was not ideal for a caterer(the kitchen was the size of a broom closet), and our contacts were very communicative. MANY of our guests complimented this food, even though our caterer for the rehearsal dinner was way more expensive! I cannot recommend this establishment enough.

If you like good food, a warm atmosphere, and friendly staff… this is a place you’ll enjoy! I’ll start by saying that I am a super picky eater. If I don’t love the meal, I’m not gonna eat it. I ordered the Guinness Beef Pie and… wow. Oh wow. When they say chunks of sirloin, they mean it! Big, beautiful pieces of tender meat so big you have to cut them if you hope to get it in your mouth! It was so amazingly savory that I had to take a moment to reveal in the glory. The plate had a hearty serving that I couldn’t even get all the way through, but I took it home for dinner! Talk about delicious. The service was wonderful. We were seated very quickly during an obviously busy time, the waitress came over right away and got us squared away. The food came out piping hot and blazing fast… But what really impressed me was the owner came to our table to chat and make sure we enjoyed our meal. A lovely experience, can’t wait to go back!!!

From Chief Fred’s fun stories about the Cherokee to the Mile High Meatloaf, it was a great time. Good food and fun atmosphere. Food came it hot and quick, service was prompt and lots of great recommendations from our server Fred. Nice and busy on a Tuesday night, but were sat quickly and welcomed promptly.

Yummy dinner! Just moved here from Chicago and were pleasantly surprised. The Honey Child chicken salad was the best chicken sandwich we have ever had! The fries were crisp and the fried mushrooms were great! Also ordered the fish and chips which we good as well. We will be back to this place for sure.

The food is really good. I ordered the chicken quesadilla. Huge serving & very tasty. My husband got a cheeseburger & loved it. The only complaints I have would be about the flies inside & the tables could use a more thorough wipe down. Besides that, pretty good place to eat.

Um yeah. Not sure what I was thinking. Food looked decent. I knew what I wanted then last min changed my mind. Dammit ! I got one of the worst hamburgers in recent memory. Don’t get me wrong it was prepared well toppings were fresh albeit way under seasoned. BUT. The bad thing about it was this god awful BBQ sauce the burger was swimming in. It’s been 2 hrs since I ate & I still feel sticky(not in a good way) & can’t get rid of the taste. The fried shrooms were actually done well along with the pickles. Give this place a try just stay away from the BBQ bacon cheeseburger. Unless that’s your thing. Me. I’ll have the grilled chicken salad.

I have a «potential» textile business customer in Landrum, SC. I very rarely stop by here, maybe once every year, but when I do make the trip, I invariably have lunch at the Hare & Hound. The restaurant is ideally situated on the end of Main Street Landrum. There is ample parking on both sides of the street, and behind the restaurant. I REALLY like the English pub feel of the place. They also pour a nice Guinness. I typically just get some type of sandwich, such as a Rueben, but they have daily specials that always seem to be well received. The restaurant seems to be fairly busy at lunchtime. Service has been outstanding the several times that I’ve eaten there. Prices are not cheap, one will easily spend $ 10+ for lunch here. The establishment impressed me as being clean, including the men’s bathroom. If I remember correctly, there was an old timey popcorn maker near the bar. I would not hesitate to eat here again in the future.
