We stopped on to take a look and had lunch here. Plenty of stuff to take a look at. Food was okay. Good place to stop in a take a look, eat or just to stretch your legs.

Come on! You get Maid-Rite, ice cream, and Amish pies to eat. Clean restrooms with changing table. Plenty of quality shopping including more Amish baked goods, home décor, gifts, and a great kids toys section chock-full of Melissa & Doug. Great family spot. Amish are coming and going in their horse and buggies. Gas next door. Really can’t beat this place for a road-side pit stop.

I was so excited to get to this place… and so disappointed when I actually got there. First this is NOT a country store, this is a tourist stop. There is not much there that is authentically Amish-made, either locally or brought in from another Amish area like PA. The«Maid Rite» is not a Maid Rite, it is a snack bar type thing that offers Maid Rite items, along with generic items and even Nathan’s Famous. If I was in the area, I wouldn’t bother to stop here even for the bathroom.

WOW! A total surprise! Wonderful homemade real shakes and the best sandwiches as well. Don’t pass Lamoni without taking a peek. There is also a very cool Amish store inside.

Wait, buggy parking in the front? It’s not a gimmick; this store really sells authentic Amish baskets and other items made by local Amish artisans. And, having seen several actual horse-and-buggies on local roads(warranting what may be the best highway yellow alert signs EVER), buggy parking is truly a necessity. Anyway, what a pleasure to stop into this roadside store. Not only does free coffee await you at the door, there is an ample selection of delicious snacks and locally made treats including cheeses and candies. We sampled licorice and hard candy and both were fantastic. This store is also the perfect place to browse gifts and souvenirs handmade by Amish craftspeople. I picked up a beautiful handmade Amish basket gift(for myself, okay?) for a very reasonable price. There are lots of other handmade items and assorted gifts for your last minute gift-buying pleasure. If you’re cruising down the highway on a road trip(me) or live in the area(lucky you!), this is a great shopping option.

I love this place. It is also the Iowa Welcome Center. I treat myself to a stop here every time I cruise the I35 corridor between my home in Minnesota, and family and friends in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. They carry a large selection of Amish– made baskets, of which I have many.
