Their flavors a good, I really like the chicken tiki masala I think is what it’s called. It doesn’t look like it will be filling but it really is! The garlic naan is super yummy too! But we went there for the lunch buffet… & it was not great, the food didn’t taste fresh, the options were slim and the lady unofficially told me the health depth as been called on them before :/

This is hands down the best Indian food I’ve had since being back in the states. I was in India for months and this food was absolutely right up there with the actual country cuisine. The staff was super fast and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing, pretty quiet, but good for conversation. I loved everything about it!

This place was quite a surprise… We were on our way to Portland and wanted to have a quick lunch. The food was awesome. We ordered Karahi Chicken and Garlic Naan. The taste was way better than any of Seattle restaurants. We also orders lassi and it was awesome too! Authentic Punjabi food! 5 stars.

The food was very good. Some of the best Indian food I’ve had. The lamb korma was well seasoned and flavorful. The lamb was tender and trimmed of fat. The nan bread was perfect, crispy yet soft. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the price was very good for the quality of food. Can’t wait to go back and try the lunch buffet.

We tried this place today and it was some of the best Indian food we’ve ever had. I personally have tried a lot of Indian food — in multiple states and countries — and this place really shines. Sure… the décor is dated. Whatever. The food was incredible. There was a wedding party there that caused our food to be delayed, but they did the right thing, they told us what was going on and gave us a free appetizer. My boyfriend used to be a chef and is very picky, and… ‘cautious’ of trying new restaurants. But even he only had great things to say. The naan is superb, perfectly crispy but soft, and the korma was soo good. We ordered naan and two entrees and had to get boxes for our leftovers. And the waitresses were attentive(but not too attentive — hate that). We can’t wait to come back!

The food was greasy and I didn’t get what I ordered and when I called and explained what happened they said they would correct my order but I would have to pay for their mistake!

A hidden gem. Great food, friendly staff that isn’t overwhelming, and perfect portion sizes.

The butter chicken here is the best I’ve ever had, hands down. The naan is also delicious, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, perfectly made. I love their other dishes, the chicken tikki masala, the saag paneer, but honestly the butter chicken is SODAMNGOOD I find it hard to convince myself to get anything else. Anyway, I discovered this place when I lived in Lakewood and got really spoiled being able to go here whenever I wanted. Now that I’ve moved down to Portland, I’ve been disappointed at every Indian restaurant I’ve gone to, because nowhere compares to the rich, flavorful, pitch-perfect spice of Great Cuisine of India. Buuut just because I moved away doesn’t mean I don’t come here anymore! My roommates and I go to several conventions in Washington every year and after taking them here one year on our way up, they now DEMAND that we stop every time we pass by the Tacoma/Lakewood area. We always get a couple to-go orders each, too, so we can take it home and indulge for the next few days(the car always smells like heaven for the second half of the trip, ugh it’s terrible and wonderful). Basically if I could convince the owners to move down to Portland, it would be the best thing that ever happened to me. But barring that, I can just never move farther away than Oregon, because I would cry if I couldn’t stop here and have legit delicious Indian food a few times a year.

This place used to be really good a few years ago, it’s a block away from me so it was also convenient. I’ve noticed though, that over the past few years, the quality of their food has decreased significantly. Samosas used to be vibrant and filled with more ingredients, now when I slice it open it’s just gray colored potatoes and a few peas in there. The naan was extremely dry and crispy(naan should be soft). The daal soup came in a really tiny bowl(I wouldn’t even call it a bowl, it was more like a miniature cup) and had too much sweet and sour than savory. I would always get the Malai Kofta(veggie balls in creamy tomato sauce) but the veggie balls lacked the texture and flavor it used to have, it was kind of like mashed potatoes shaped into little balls. I’d much rather drive the extra miles to go to India Mahal on Bridgeport; same price, better quality.

I was very happy with my experience around the beginning of January. I hope to visit again soon! This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem in Lakewood.

Horrible owner, a former employee quit this job because the owner steals his workers tips. The owner is extremely greedy, stay away!!!

My girlfriend and I make a point to try and make it here once a week. We normally do takeout and food is oh so delicious. It definitely hits the spot and the people there are so nice and kind. I would definitely recommend the paneer coconut and the lentils curry. Both are to die for! The naan is on point and you can’t go wrong with pampadoms. The fish on the appetizer menu is so good too! It’s a tad spicy but the sauce they give you with it really balances it out if you’re not a spice person.

I could use bigger portions… but mainly because the food is so amazing and I always end up eating there when I’m starving. Excellent customer service. My favorite place to sit down to eat or take out in lakewood.

Based on my experience in the Tacoma/Lakewood area, this is by far the best Indian restaurant. I have also been overseas and had the home cooking of both Indian and Pakistani families. The Great Cuisine of India is authentic and the best around. I highly recommend it.

Solid Indian food, with amazing naan and a wonderful lunch buffet. A little gem buried in a modest strip-type mall. I recommend the chicken tiki masala :) sate savory sauce makes for a divine accompaniment to your seemingly everlasting pile of jasmine rice. A must try. Especially if you’re close!

I used to love this place. It was our go-to place for takeout and we were regulars at the lunch buffet. We’re talking thousands of dollars spent here … until one day, poof. All it took was the owner — who was never that friendly even to regular customers(and yet their kids were great) — making a belittling comment about my young son’s intelligence and I will NEVER be back. I don’t care who you are; you do not call a child with delays«not smart.» My family — and money — patronize Gateway to India on 6th Avenue in Tacoma, and it’s always a great experience.

I got the chicken tikki masala and garlic naan for takeout the other day. It was the best Indian food I’ve ever had! I loved the flavor, the chicken was moist and tender, and the rice was cooked perfectly. Maybe it’s because I’ve only gotten Indian food in the east coast, but this food was simply amazing.

Well I walked in was promptly greeted by the nice young man and headed right over to the food. It was all very tasty and fresh. Of special note the Tandori Chicken was as good as I have had it and the Butter Chicken was the same. Garlic Naan was good but was not as hot as I like but it tasted great. Overall I would have to say I highly recommend this place.

Uh oh the health inspectors walked in and it had me worried. This was our first time here and was reluctant. We came in 1:30 pm for the lunch buffet. Sad to say it felt like we were eating left overs. The food was cold and dishes didn’t look appetizing. My chai tea came in a dirty cup. It had tea stains on the lip. I got a new one with free refill and wasn’t charged. Vegetable Samosa(one and only piece) was nowhere near fresh. It may have been from two days ago. Now I know why the health inspector was there. I heard them telling the owner the buffet temperatures weren’t hot enough for the hot dishes. They did replenish the chicken curry and that was great! They also put out more biryani and potato pakoras. They were hot and that earned them a star. I enjoyed the mango pudding and the rice dessert. Another star. I thought it was too expensive($ 9.99 for lunch buffet) especially with limited dishes left. I’d suggest going right when they open or find another place.
