The outdoor seating here is fantastic. The scenario of the vines hanging above is very photogenic. In terms of the food — I was thrilled with my burger. The sour dough bread was really knocked out of the park.

We had some poor meals a few years back here, but that seems to be in the past. I think the chef was sick with Lyme disease for a while– perhaps that’s the reason. Anyway, the last couple of times we’ve been herre the food was first rate. Can be noisy, and seats can be uncomfortable, but the French touch is quite good.

Just had the near perfect brunch at this charming bistro right off Rte. 44. Eggs with Salmon and goat cheese, and my wife asked for custom eggs with veggies. The staff is polite, friendly and efficient. The presentation impeccable. We sat on the shaded patio, surrounded by grape vines and no bugs in sight. My wife’s Bloody Mary was tasty and all in for not too much damage on the wallet Only negatives: brought me regular when I ordered egg whites and no Amex. I can live with those. Worth a detour

Had an excellent lamb shank w polenta and broccoli raab. Nice glass of wine. Atmosphere is old farmhouse, comfortable. Would definitely go back.

Very nice restaurant in a converted house. We started with calamari and a fois gras terrine, which were fabulous and I had the Moroccan leg of lamb. Spicy but not ridiclously so and served rare, as lamb should be. The apple tart for dessert was excellent as well. Great meal, though a bit pricy but not out of line for the area.

My husband and I live two towns over, and even with the thirty minute drive this is our go-to place to eat out. The building is beautiful and seating is cosy inside and out. We always get a friendly greeting when we enter. It’s a great date spot — quaint, warm, friendly and classic. The French cut chicken breast is hands-down the best chicken dish I’ve ever had. Calamari is head and shoulders above any other I’ve tried. Steak frites always hits the spot. Every special I’ve tried is fantastic, and the servers are always knowledgable and trustworthy in their suggestions. it’s a little on the pricey side for us, but completely reasonable for the quality of the food and service. I’d eat here once a week if I could afford it.

Very pleasant atmosphere and friendly restaurant. Very nice that a reservation request was responded by Karen, who texted and confirmed the reservation to my mobile phone.(this is quite important in a region where mobile service is not consistent so a call may not go through easily). I must say though, that the food was average to us. Perhaps we have expected too much from a «French» restaurant. The food was good, but the seared octopus first course was not seared. Fully cooked. And the actual octopus portion was small. The artichoke salad was not sophisticated. The lamb chop was very nicely cooked, but the rice was too full of herbs, cooked too long and the flavors were too full and confusing. The seafood stew was a bit too overcooked. Shrimp in the stew were almost rubbery. We would go back for the ambience and the friendly staff, but without high ecotextstions of a sophisticated French food you’d find in NY or other large cities. The dinner at Morgan’s nearby was the same price for 2 people. Morgan’s doesn’t provide the same level of ambience, but for the food, no competition.

Went here for the first time last night; I thoroughly enjoyed myself! The trout is quite good and the baked alaska dessert was quite good!

Always reliably very good food. The menu is varied and the food well prepared. A friendly and attractive place. The chef’s wife is a charming hostess. One of the very best places in the area.

Been twice in two weeks. Delicious food, comfortable environment, good service, reasonable price. Grilled artichoke — yum. Cesear salad — double yum. Scallops — triple yum. And other great dishes.

Has been better in the past. Disappointing rack of lamb — very tough — not much bang for the buck. Still a pretty place — but I won’t travel 20 miles to get there — definitely not worth it.

Mothering Sunday 2013, as my Britt GF calls it Food was wonderful, and as a foodie, a person who can cook most restaurant dishes and can usually not see a reason for going out, I found Pastorale a wonderful place to get a meal Ambiance, as the others stated, it’s very quaint Price, Expensive for the area, no Kids menus, and three adults and two kids with 2 drinks, 3 sodas, 3 appetizers, 3 meals and 2 hamburgers with tip(%15) was $ 170,definitely the most I’ve paid in a while I would definitely go back, and I would definitely recommend the place

Like another reviewer, my new wife and I were staying at Rock Hall when we headed out for a Friday night dinner at Pastorale. This place is fantastic! We were seated upstairs and greeted by a badass waiter with forearm tattoos who was attentive, professional, quick and had a sense of humor. We were too excited about the menu and ended up ordering 3 appetizers and an entrée to split; bacon wrapped scallops, beef carpaccio, escargot and the eggplant ravioli special. Unfortunately our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we could only shove down half of our ravioli. The place is so darling and the prices are super reasonable. We’re looking forward to going back in better weather. It looks like they have a cool bar and outdoor area.

We almost didn’t try this place because of the slightly mixed reviews, but lucky for us we did! The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was cozy and the waiter, bartender and bus boy were all super friendly and attentive. My dining companion has some major food allergies and they happily prepared the meals to suit his needs. I will definitely be back.

Fancy, welcoming, and Decent food, but service wasn’t that great, a couple that got there after got served before Us, it took about 15 minutes before we were asked what we wanted, definitely better restaurants in the area. Also should make adjustments to the menu to make it a little easier.

A wonderful restaurant. Set in a converted house, it has a very homey, down-to-earth feel, though the food is certainly high-end. I went here with my family(five members total including me) a few months ago and we had a great dinner. We ate in a room with only one table so it was like a private dining experience. I think I ordered some kind of crab with a salad and it was good. Everyone enjoyed their dishes, as a matter of fact. Our waitress was polite and attentive. The prices were not cheap but definitely not that expensive, either. I will look forward to visiting this place again.

Ahhh, little Pastorale. The little gem on the Salisbury /Lakeville line. The building itself is quite beautiful. It’s tastefully decorated with cozy eating spaces, a lovely bar, and the food *I* consumed was quite delicious. I went there for a family gathering and had lamb with crispy garlic spinach(…it was phenomenal!) and fried polenta. My grandmother and I shared beef carpaccio that was delicious as well. My father? Well, his was the meal that went wrong. He got a dish with duck, and the duck decided, «Hey, I’m going to get extremely tough and hard to chew.» After my father and I both tried to gnaw our way through a few pieces, we heard patrons at a nearby table complain about the very same duck dish. My father, very kindly, informed our waiter that this meal was not to his liking. This waiter, who had been kind to us previously, was cordial to my father but you could tell that he took offense. The rest of the night, our waiter was very«forced friendly» with us. I can only hope he was having a bad night and that this gentleman is not constantly like this, but I feel this rude service was frightfully uncalled for. Some meals work. Some don’t. Just carry on. As I feel the need to end this on a good note, they DID have good profiteroles! If my father couldn’t enjoy his duck, he could enjoy his chocolate, ice cream, and puff pastry!(Quite frankly, given the choice, he probably would have had THAT for dinner… but that’s a whole ‘nother story…) I’m certainly willing to give Pastorale another try in the future. I’ll just stay away from the duck and make sure my wait staff is super chipper!

I ate dinner here with my boyfriend while we were staying at a B & B(Rock Hall) about 25 minutes away. Immediately we were impressed by the setting. Pastorale is located in an old house — totally charming. We were seated on the second floor. Even though it wasn’t very spacious, it certainly felt private. We’re vegetarians and I was a little worried there wouldn’t be much for us to eat, but the soup of the day was vegetarian, and there were several appetizers and entrees that we could have. My boyfriend had the butternut squash and coconut soup which was quite delicious. He offered me a taste and I ended up sharing it with him, which isn’t uncommon. We shared the grilled artichoke and mozzarella salad, which they even split on two plates for us in the kitchen. I was surprised that they offered to do that — I feel like most places find that annoying! The salad came with an easily removable piece of meat on top, so beware! I never know which unfamiliar Italian word might be a kind of meat, and I should start asking. Anyway, the salad was SO good. Grilled artichoke was amazing, and all the other ingredients were fresh and really good. And even though it was only half a salad, we each had a full plate! Oh yeah, we also had a great bottle of white wine, that they kept on ice for us right next to our table. So thoughtful. Our entrees were a hit too. The spinach and portabello ravioli was proclaimed«so fresh!» and«the best I’ve had!» by my boyfriend, and I’d have to agree. He certainly didn’t let me eat half of that dish. It was surrounded by bits of butternut squash, and topped with fresh arugula and goat cheese(a couple of our favorites). I had fettuccine with julienne portabellos, which I didn’t even come close to finishing. Not that it wasn’t delicious, but I was stuffed from everything we’d already had! Again, it was so fresh tasting and not heavy and I enjoyed it at home the next day. For dessert we had an apple tart with ice cream that was so so good. I’m running out of positive adjectives to describe the food here so I think I’m done. As we descended the stairs to leave, I noticed that they have a large window cut out where you can peek into the kitchen. I was impressed to see them meticulously laying out plates. Also the music was great, the lighting was great, and the service was great. Great great great. One more thing, coming from NYC, we were amazed at how reasonable the prices were for such a nice place. Our bill came to a little less than $ 60 a person for a bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, dessert and coffee.
