Huntington Lake Resort

Great stop for appetizers and drinks. Sara and Jerod are a kick and made us feel right at home. I highly recommend.

So this wonderful hidden gem is great. I bypassed previous reviews because it has new owners. Rahvi was so accomadating, she placed my family and i in a 2br cabin at a great rate, we stayed a few days and the drive was worth it from San Diego. The water levels are not high but it was expected. We were still able to kayak, bbq and have plenty of time to rekindle family ties. Unless you expect a 5 star Ritz Hotel in the middle of nowhere, this place is not for you. The cabin was rustic and comfy. The only heads up thats needed, is you might get a visit from a tiny mouse, its nothing to be alarmed for, the cabin is out in the middle of nowhere, its nature at its best. So keep your goodies locked up over night. Other than that Mr. Phank cares about your stay, makes himself and his staff available for anything that arrises. The food was delicious as well, i will post a picture of breakfast when i get a chance, also the breakfast burrito was one of the best that ive had. The boys behind the counter are helpful.
As far as the ice cream servings go, yes, theyre small but its not the size of the scoop that matters, my kids savored every bit, America and its large portions i tell you!
So, yes in their defense English is not their first language but neither is mine, its California we’re diverse, we were able to communicate well enough to enjoy our time there and to feel the need to return. Free wifi btw.

We ate dinner here in July 2014 for the Taco Tuesday special. Food was great and so was atmosphere outside on deck overlooking the lake. Marina was deserted and lake was not crowded due to low water level but still there were quite a few people showing up at the restaurant. Fast forward one year to right now, July 2015, and what a drastic change. We showed up at 5 pm and the place was deserted. We immediately noticed a change of ownership legal announcement in the window. The new owners first language is not English so it took awhile to get our simple order finished and they used 2 tickets for some unknown reason. We only ordered two double scoop ice cream cones. When the wife brought our first cone out I burst out laughing because I thought it was a joke. The cone had two TEASPOON sized round balls in it, so small that one scoop wasnt even visible and the top scoop fit perfectly within the rim of the small sugar cone, with room to spare! My husband and I looked at each other in disbelief and he said out loud «wow thats a little skimpy on the scampi.» They totally ignored us but the next cone came out totally different. It was a plain cone (not sugar), one teaspoon sized scoop fit into the bottom cylinder part of the cone while the 2^nd tablespoon sized scoop sat on top in the larger rim part of the cone. At that point we should have handed the two cones back and got our $ 6.00 back. Instead we walked outside onto the deck and took pictures of the tiny treats. I guess I should look at the bright side; I shouldn’t eat a lot of sugar anyway and the new owners sure helped us out with that. We will be heading down to Shaver Lake if we want any treats while staying at Huntington in the future.

We rented Cabin 4 (‘luxury’ cabin) and although the lake levels are low, we had a fantastic time. No crowds, plenty of beach and warm weather with a cool breeze. The cabin was comfy for 3 (Queen and single bunks) and fully equipped with everything necessary, although we ate at the snack bar – fantastic burgers, breakfast, ice cream shakes and beer/​wine.
Nancy is fantastic and very responsive to all my questions prior.
Huntington Lake is our new vacay spot! Not only can we drive onto the beach, but our dog is welcome just about everywhere and can run off leash on the beach!

There is a great deck overlooking the lake. The food during the day is good snack bar food. The owners and staff are very friendly and make the whole experience VERY pleasurable. We frequently sail up the lake, tie up at the dock, and have lunch. Highly recommended!

Super tasty, great onion rings and French fries. Food came up fast and was only $ 17 for two meals. Good service. The only problem was the Kenny G CD being played. It was really disrupting the peaceful serenity… also Kenny G sucks.

I hate to be a complainer but our lunch at the Huntington Lake Resort restaurant was just so poor I had to speak out. I do not mind spending $ 9.25 for a cheeseburger with fries if it is of average quality and comes with a nice view but this food was just so poor. A positive note was the waitstaff — they were very friendly. I am new to the area and have begun to fish Huntington regularly but will definately go hungry next time rather than stop here.

THE WORST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE… PROBABLY EVER!

WELL…
When we arrived at the cabin after a long drive in the early eve expecting to settle in to a cozy rustic cabin. (I have no problem with just the basic necessities and travel high and low)
…BUT When we opened the door we nearly cried. It smelled like mildew, …coupled with stains, stinky mattresses and old blankets, cobwebs… etc. Maybe their clientele are too drunk on cheap booze to care? I could imagine only the worst of the worst… A depressing place to stay in the least. It wasn’t especially inexpensive either… so it can’t be blamed on the too good to be true syndrome.
STUCK!
Every other place was booked and it was too late to drive out of the area plus we had no camping gear. Sadly we had no choice but to sleep outside on the deck cause the place was so dank. I was lucky enough to buy some horse blankets at a nearby country store cause we didn’t want their nasty blankets on our bodies.
INSULT OVER INJURY!!!
The next day I told the owner I wanted my money back and she said yeah, yeah, yeah but charged me anyway. I had to go to my credit card company and fight it.
Amazing this place is still in business!
