Have been here three times and have yet to be impressed. The service has been ok, but the food has been far worse than the service.

1st time here. Staff wonderful… Friendly and attentive. However food was just ordinary. Sandwich had no lettuce, no mustard– just regular choices for a pastrami sandwich. Chicken dill salad good flavor. Chicken Caesar salad didn’t have much chicken which was disappointing. Oh well… Not horrible just okay.

Ever since my Jewish gigi passed, I’ve loved coming to eat here. Terrific food! And the matzo ball soup tastes just like hers!

This was a great 10:00 brunch option! Few patrons, clean, quick service, quick food delivery. I enjoyed the pastrami on rye. Wished it was toasted rye — will have to remember that’s not automatic. Nice light mustard, great crisp pickle. They make a big deal of rolling the meat on the sandwich – which bunches it high in front and leaves nothing on the bread in the back – Once readjusted it, it was quite edible. Cost $ 10, high for a sandwich in this town but nice for a treat. Cole slaw was nice, well-balanced. Great that I could get breakfast, lunch or supper items. I was surprised not to see lox and bagels on the menu – was told they have bagels all the time. I like that they offer a kosher Passover meal on Friday and Saturday of Passover by reservation! They have a nice deli but their people were too busy to serve me – no other customers, but cleaning machines or stacking items. They lost $ 30 in grocery sales for that. You can buy meat/cheese by the pound, premade meals like knishes or stuffed cabbage or great salads and many yummy sweets from rugelach to key lime pie.

I really like this place but particularly now that the new has worn off and the crowds are down a bit — when it first opened it was always a very long wait. I have tried several dishes here and all of them have been good — recently I had their house specialty shepherds pie which was really good and they have a new cucumber tomato salad that was really delicious with cold crisp cucumbers fresh tomatoes and a really good Italian style dressing — I say go give it a try there are lots of good things to try on the menu!

I used to go to TooJay’s quite frequently about 10 years ago. Hadn’t been to one in a while, so I’d figured I’d stop in and grab some lunch. Boy has it changed! It is now more of a sit down restaurant instead of a deli/salad bar.(CORRECTION: TooJay’s never had a salad bar, I got it mixed up with another restaurant. Regardless, the rest of my opinion stands) I got some wrap and it was mediocre at best. Just your standard wrap with lunch meat. Noting special. Definitely did not get my monies worth(was about $ 11 with fruit, no drink). Needless to say, I was very disappointed and will not be going back.

I give it a 1 on service and a 3 or 4 on food. I love our local TooJay’s and this was not it. We were seated and my grandson was fussy due to not having a full nap. We ordered him a chicken fingers along with the Shepherd’s Pie for my son and I got the Mediterranean Healthy Trio. My son’s meal and my meal came out and then the server left. We thought to get my grandson’s meal. She came back and asked how everything was. We told her we were still waiting on my grandson’s meal. She stated, «Oh yeah, Grilled cheese?» No, Chicken Fingers. Someone else came and apologized and said it was never rung in. I was ½ way through my meal when we got my grandson’s and he stated«Be careful, these are really hot». First off, if there’s a child, make sure to get that meal. Secondly, it’s a 2 year old and he was upset that it was hot and couldn’t eat it immediately after coming late. Thirdly, do not put a child’s meal on the bill after you are late with a child’s meal and it’s too hot to eat immediately. The child is upset due to your fault, not ours. The server then came and stated, «Have they not come to give you your check yet?» First off, who’s THEY? YOU are our server. No one else is around, so who else would bring it? There are some critical things when learning how to serve — 1– keep drinks full and 2-keep kids happy, which in turn keeps parents happy. Fail either of those and don’t expect a good tip or for customers to return. I was sorely disappointed in the service. I’ll gladly return to my local TooJay’s.

Love the food here! Highly recommend checking it out. The pastrami sandwich was awesome! Reminds me of New York.

Not my kind of place for dinner. Service was fine. Wine choices are limited but I had a decent glass. If I wanted a sandwich, maybe I’d come back. But their dinner options are limited. Just OK

I am from New York… maybe that’s why I can’t give them a great review. I didn’t try the sandwiches so that I can’t comment on. I did, however, have a knish that tasted super plain and a Mandarin Chicken salad that tasted a step above bland. When I walked in I wasn’t greeted, by any of the 3 – 4 people that we right there at the entrance. My server was nice but didn’t try to sell the place or suggest anything on the menu. the prices are crazy too for how the taste was I should’ve paid 10 $ less than I did. Most likely not coming back.

Whenever I eat here, I always ask myself«Am I waiting for my lunch? Or the Second Coming?» Because I bet the latter will happen before the former. I’ll put money on it. My last straw was when I was picking up food and while I waited in front of the dessert case, I noticed flies inside of it. I pulled one of the kids working aside and said«you really ought to take care of that… there’s flies in there.» Kid proceeds to get some hand broom to try to swat it out — dropping god knows what debris ALLOVER the desserts, letting about 5 more flies in in the process. That whole scene left me disgusted and I won’t return.

I like to consider myself a knish connoisseur so I’ll say that although this is not a New York knish, it’s pretty good. The Sandwiches have not disappointed and the service is great.

Awesome food, wonderful service and great prices. They were able to accommodate 14 of us seated together and our waitress made sure we had everything we wanted. We will be back.

This place is delicious. Eat here. The Google reviews for some reason are not that great but they are WRONG. The J&J sandwich is my favorite. Good stuff! Very friendly staff too.

I actually really like Toojay’s, but this location has some problems. It’s pretty new, so hopefully they will work the kinks out soon. My friend and arrived at 2pm on a Friday and the place was packed. We waited nearly 20 minutes before we were sat. Then, we were sat our table was very wobbly so we asked to be moved. The hostess walked us to another table, but it was still dirty and she just left us standing there in the aisle. After about 2 or 3 minutes, we decided to sit down at the dirty table. The waitress then came to clean it off. We gave our orders to the waitress, and I ordered a sandwich and matzo ball soup. 10 minutes later, the waitress returns to inform me that they are out of matzo balls! How can Toojay’s be out of matzo balls on a Friday at 2:45?! That just blows my mind. I told her not to worry about it. She brought me a salad to try and make up for it, which was very nice and I appreciate that, but really? Out of matzo balls? Again, I’m hoping these are just bugs that need to be worked out and that they will be shortly.

This is my 3rd trip too this location. Certain deli sandwiches are great(Reuben & Rachel) but service is terrible. Today waited 10 minutes in a line. They should have a seated waiting area. Then once seated have too wait too long to be greater by server. The food took forever to come. Once it came, my youngest child had no meal. It took me having to ask TWICE about his meal, and finally came after about seven minutes after the other meals were laid down. Our server was nice bout everything just moved at a snails pace. When we had to search for someone to ask our waitress for the check and the wait and wait to get the check. The last time I ate there for lunch, we ordered some dessert but a prolonged wait made us grab our check, take it up front our self where we found our ticket still hanging and unaddressed. The décor is terrible. Brand new place looks like it’s been there years.

Hmm. Well. A place that appears to tout itself as a New York style deli yet does not offer a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel is questionable in my eyes. The place was quiet for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Walked in and got a table no problem. The server was very sweet and attentive – I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup(which was brewed perfectly). I ordered the western scramble. I was a little put off with the slightly overlooked latkes in the bottom of my dish and the mountain of cheese atop my eggs. I agree with other reviews – my sesame bagel was fresh, but more of the Panera variety. Overall, not a bad experience. I would come back again. I saw some elements that felt very New York that would be off putting to Lakeland locals(sandwich styles/options, etc). If you’re looking for something different than the mass chain fast food places in town, give Toojay’s a shot(just don’t expect an authentic NYC experience).

This place didn’t blow my socks off at all. Service is amazing but the foods kinda lacking. I love the kids menu. I got a burger and it tasted like burnt socks and it was suppose to be medium. The fries are average and the tea was a little UNsweet so I was sad :( My daughter loved her pizza which is like a triangle piece of toast with good toppings. She loves it and the side options for then are super healthy ! The cake I’m not blown away at all it wasn’t moist it wasn’t flavorful it was just there. There aren’t a whole lot of options cause it seems like this is different type of sandwich joint and I wasn’t feeling it. I haven’t heard amazing things but it’s one of those places some like sme don’t So I’m not saying don’t go. Try once. Then review. Just one of those places

As I hoped, breakfast at Toojay’s is a world apart from dinner service. My wife and I almost did not go but we are happy we did. I think this solidifies my opinion that some places should probably stick with one meal of the day and not try to do everything. We arrived around 9AM on Sunday. When we went in there were about 6 or 7 groups in front of us. My only complaint with this trip was right now — they did first come, first serve, and had everyone stand in a line. They didn’t take names and check with groups behind the first one to see if they could be seated. Everyone was nice enough, but it took longer than it should have. And when we left the line was out the door! Once we sat down we were greeted very quickly, and got some iced tea and coffee.(The coffee isn’t too bad!). We placed our order and didn’t wait too long for food. I ordered a create your own omelette(onions, peppers, bacon, cheddar) with home fries and an everything bagel. Omelette was good, home fries were delicious(they are definitely fried, but come with some onions and peppers, mmm). The bagel. well, it’s not an authentic NY style bagel. Wasn’t too bad but I probably wouldn’t get one again.(I’d put it in line with Panera bagels, not the great local bagel places around). My wife got two eggs over easy(she said they were just a tad bit undercooked but it was okay, better than overcooked!) with their challah(potato) bread. The bread is very tasty. I would get that instead of a bagel next time, and definitely try their french toast that uses it. Unfortunately we both avoided the potato pancakes after the dinner fiasco. We didn’t see anyone else with them either. We both love potato pancakes but I guess we will continue to make them at home. So, long story short — we will be back for breakfast definitely, but not for lunch or dinner.
