New Moon Sushi

Stopped off road very impromptu. Great service with all smiles. Fabulous and fresh food. Sushi was superb and great presentation. This should be your only food stop for Japanese food

Great food and extremely friendly staff! Wish they were open for lunch on the weekend so I could eat the there often.

I was very impressed with this restaurant. The food is really good, and the customer service is excellent. I am a vegetarian, and they were willing to revise my order accordingly. They served us our food very quickly, and the prices were extremely reasonable.

We had dinner there for the first time last night. It’s very clean & quiet our food was very slow coming out due to lots of people ordering at once they did bring us a free appetizer and apologized for the wait. We had the avocado salad, tuna roll, vegetable roll, volcano roll, conch ni, California roll & crab delight and we liked it all. We will be going back again soon.

A 3 is probably a bit generous. The service was slow and inattentive. The sushi was a little less than average. It was bland and poorly rolled. Most of the pieces fell apart. The atmosphere was nice.

We decided to try New Moon after reading the reviews and seeing the location in the plaza. Overall we were very impressed with the quality and friendly service and would recommend the restaurant to others. We had the spicy sandwich which are like sushi rolls with a unique twist. We also had striped sea bass and white tuna sashimi, both were very good. Tempura chicken and fried tofu were also great. The mixed drinks were delicious (try the monster martini). We will be back to New Moon and will bring friends and family.

Love this place! The double tuna roll is SO good and everything is very good. I might even order off the kids menu next time because my son’s tempura was fabulous.

Great sushi. Great service. A nice little gem hidden in a strip mall in Lakeland. You’d never guess but they’re surprisingly good. Try the Godzilla roll. Delicious. Aya our server was friendly and sweet. We’ll definitely be back. Nice seating too and good atmosphere. Sushi is all they do but they also have lunch boxes M-​F.

Did not expect to find such a great Sushi spot in Lakeland. Not sure why, but I didn’t. Everything we had was very good. We came kind of late, but they did not rush us at all.

Now I know why every person I meet in Lakeland says they don’t like sushi!
That was probably the most disgusting «sushi» I’ve had in my life.
The spicy tuna roll had a strange coloring to it and tasted absolutely horrible.
Went on to try the Mexican roll, which is said to have jalapeño and spicy mayo and had neither. I took a big olé bite of shrimp, lettuce and avocado.
I tried the Orlando roll as well. That one would be the one I’d pick as a favorite. Not voluntarily of course. More like, if I was at gunpoint and forced to choose.
The soup they gave me smelled extremely funky as well.
TLDR; This place sucks at sushi.

Every time I go there the food and service are excellent. Always fresh and always tasty.
I would recommend without hesitation.

Seriously impressed! Newmoon pays attention to their reviews. The day after I posted this review I received a phone call from A manager wanting to correct my order. She was apologetic and very sincere. I explained that I didn’t live in the area and she encouraged me to stop by the next time I was around for a free roll. I wanted to update this review give them the credit they deserve. Kudos to you Newmoon management! That’s customer service!

We have been here about 4 times and the sushi is amazing! Service is always great and they are very friendly. The restraunt is very clean and plenty of parking. We drive from Tampa to eat here and we will be back again soon.

Great food and great service even we we came at 45 minutes before lunch service was over. Would recommend.

I am here in Lakeland on business from San Jose where I get lots of good sushi. I even make it myself at home since I am of Japanese descent. I had dinner here twice in the past week, trying the baby octopus appetizer and the sushi deluxe dinner one night, then getting the Jalapeño Hamachi and tempura shrimp dinner with a side order of unagi. All of the fish were very very fresh, the spicy tuna roll nicely spiced and not creamy, thin layer of rice which allows the maximum flavor of the fish to come through, and the baby octopus was perfectly marinated and cooked. The ginger dressing on the salad is very refreshing and tasty.
The «flavor bomb» tonight — the Jalapeño Hamachi — was THE best hamachi dish I have ever had, and I have had a lot of hamachi since that is my favorite sashimi. It blew me away. I will dream about it until I have it again.
I also had the tempura since I haven’t had it in awhile and felt the craving. It was light and crispy with very little oiliness. The tare sauce was a little light for me, but I was happy they made me some daikon oroshi (grated) since I grew up with and love that flavor with my tempura.
Their drink selection is quite good too. I had one of their special vodka martini’s tonight — nicely balanced and very refreshing. I had an excellent hiyazaki, or cold sake, the first night — a junmai daigingyo. I tried a lot of different hiyazaki’s in Japan so I can appreciate the differences. Some places only have hot sake which is awesome for warming you up but you can’t really tell cheap sake from good ones — so guess which ones they use. They had some good stuff here.
ALL of the service staff were friendly, attentive, and FAST. The owners are fabulous hosts and put in special fresh sushi that they just got in, even uni, upon request. That kind of pleasant experience definitely makes the food taste even better. I did not expect to find such a great sushi restaurant out here, but I am hooked on New Moon and will be back many times.

I ordered lunch from here for the first time today and was pleased to see they had multiple vegetable options. I ordered the Vegetable roll and the Yam Yam roll (i.e., Tempura Sweet Potato). This also came with a house salad. Moreover, although I ordered my food to go I did take a minute to observe the interior which was pleasant and the employees were also very kind.
My only real complaint is that no plastic silverware was put in the bag to accompany the meal. I assume they have them, perhaps it was just a misstep. Nevertheless, the staff was very friendly and I will be coming back.

Went there for lunch today and ordered the Sushi Lunch with Miso Soup and Shrimp Shumai. The Miso Soup was good and the Shrimp Shumai was ok. The sushi however was sushi however was not good. The color of the Tuna and Salmon were very unappealing and didn’t look fresh. The Sushi was also pretty warm when it hit the table. The taste of the sushi was also not the greatest. Every bite made me question why I was eating it in the first place.
Sushi has to be perfect when served and this was looked and tasted like Gas Station Sushi.

So we came here earlier this year and I reviewed it under the old name (Shingetsu). I gushed about how good the sushi was, and about the tastiness of the cocktails. Fast forward to last weekend, and nothing has changed. More delicious sushi (volcano roll, mango salmon, and one with tuna, salmon, and white fish), salmon Carpaccio, the «tunacado”(fried avocado with crab dynamite and spicy tuna), uni (for the wife), and the kids sushi (tamago, shrimp, the bean curd thing, 4 ca rolls) for my daughter. The fish (specifically the salmon) is very good here. The wife also commented on how good their uni (sea urchin) is. I also had a pumpkin spice martini and the pineapple upside down. The service was great again, as we got good recommendations and chatted more with the staff regarding the creativity of the drinks and such. This is one of the few places where I look forward to the drinks as well as the food, and they don’t disappoint. We will likely visit here every time we’re in the area, as we really enjoy our experience here.

I really enjoyed the sushi here — I had the mango roll and a specialty roll with spicy tuna. The fish was fresh and tasted great. Friendly staff as well!
