I visited the Lakeland store(3615 S Florida Ave Ste 410, Lakeland, FL33803) last Saturday 1÷3÷15 at 9:20PM. Before I entered I checked the time on the website and it said it stayed opened until 10:00 pm on Saturdays. I was confirmed of by the hours of operation sign on the door. When we entered we spent about 5 minutes looking at the merchandise. The manager approached asking if were heading to the register. I expressed to her that I believed we had another half an hour. She informed us that we were wrong and the store actually closes at 9:30. I told her that the sign on the door is wrong then because it says 10:00 and 9:30. She gave us a «too bad» shrug and offered no explanation or apology. When we were exiting we passed her and I was going to inform her that the website should also be changed since it also says 10pm. However, before I could say anything she says to me rather aggressively«don’t bite my head off its not my fault». I just walked away not saying anything and rather confused. This manager obviously does not care about the customer or has a desire to make Marshalls money(I hade a few things to purchase but left them there after our rude encounter). I will not be frequenting that Marshalls any more.

As these types of stores go, and I’ve been in many, this one is above par. The store is organized and presentable the majority of the time, and it is very easy to find great deals here on trendy clothes, home wares, and much more. The brands that can be found here are of a better quality than to be expected — I’m not one to purchase something just because of the label; instead I shop for quality. They are a billion times cleaner than the Ross down the way, and the selection is much better as well. The only lacking part is customer service, but always expect to fend for myself in these types of stores. On my most recent trip, the girls in the fitting room were very friendly and cheerful(which is a rarity,) but the individual behind the register was lacking these qualities.

Maybe it’s because I’m from NYC and expect every Marshalls to be a total train wreck, but I got some awesome finds at the one in Lakeland. They had a ton of designer items, as well as an incredible shoe department, and they also had a pretty extensive beauty section, which was filled with tons of the same finds you’d get at Sephora.

While Marshall’s has some fine products and this one, an extensive home goods department, the low-class poor service in this store negates a desire to shop there. The register is set up Disney style hog trough fashion,(certainly not compatible with the Americans w/Disabilities Act,) where you will stand forever, usually watching 4 or 5 clerks behind the registers but only two actually working registers. The others just«act important». Invariably, after waiting in line 10 minutes and almost getting to the register, one of the clerks will rudely shout«I’m taking a break». No help can be found on the floor either! The last 2 times I was in this store, I left merchandise on a shelf and walked out. Clothing racks too close together and house merchandise aisles always in horrid disarray. Maybe I should give them an extra star for the money they’re saving me?
