All I wanted was to find a store that literally had locally made… home grown produce, and meats that were LITERALLY raised on nearby farms(who’s feed wasn’t sprayed with round up). *Check mark… Found it. I’ve found that the majority of the produce and meats came from local farms within a 30 minute radius from here… that’s crazy awesome to me. On the other plus side, the store holds a harvest date for beef, chicken and pork… so go ahead and place an order for half a cow…’cause I’m on it. It wasn’t just the meat here that was exceptional. The other grocery products here are mostly produced and made across Missouri. From jams, to honey, coconut oils, etc. I feel like every other corporation just slaps the«organic» label on and you find out it was grown in mexico. But this place is something else… even the seasoning and spices are un-labled and truly home grown. They some of the BEST deals I’ve seen and quite the library of loose leaf teas. I like the natural soaps, essential oils section behind the register. Its where you can buy all your«truly» natural toiletries… other wise they have the ingredients to make your own… that is if you were to want to make your own shampoos, and deodorants. We’ll get the fluoride free toothpastes, the soaps that were made locally without the parabens and ingredients you can’t pronounce, and elderberry remedies. They have everything you need to start your own garden and to be self sufficient on your own. They seem to possess the knowledge and are eager to assist to. I didn’t really explore the dog, cat, and farm animal feed, but what I have learned from wondering around the section is that a lot of it is grain free, and that animals weren’t meant to have grains. The idea of local meats, and produce, and local made or natural health products is really trending, and it’s really made me happy to know that this place exists so close by to me. I was afraid we would always have to wait for specialty stores near the city to go to… and that’s just too far… and so are the farmer’s markets on the weekends… at all the good ones. This place is a true country store at heart, but I’m really enjoying the fact that they taken on all the other chemical free, and truly«green» products out there.

I like the store, and I really like what I see as an entrepreneurial manager/owner. We typically buy our Halloween pumpkins here. Great prices, and decent selection with a good presentation. Better than a grocery store or Lowe’s-type of option, though not as authentic as a pumpkin patch. Nice compromise. And, that captures my experience with this enterprise. The store creates the perception that I’m getting a small-store experience … and I believe it is a ‘small’, locally-owned store. Over the several years that we have wandered in, I’ve noticed an evolution, as Greene’s seems to be filling the Whole Foods gap in this part of St Charles County — a viable option to Schnucks or Dierbergs for produce and locally-sourced stuff. It’s a logical adjacency for the consumer, as the store is a farm store — feels natural to buy farm-produced produce — and, that kind of option is missing out here. [Oh, that there were a Wegman’s grocery store nearby … St Louis needs Wegman’s … but, I digress.] I don’t have a horse or a farm; so, much of the product offering is lost on me. It probably doesn’t count that I eat like a horse, and as I’m not on the same frame, I consequently look like a pig. ;-) The one tricky part is to keep track of the hours — they are not as convenient as a grocery store or a Rural King. Also, getting onto Hwy N can be tricky at many times of the day. But, neither are ‘deal killers’.

This is a weed and feed store that offers cat food and dog food also. But what they are best known for is there knowledge of every item they sell. They are the place to go when you want the perfect lawn, don’t waste your money on those monthly services that are made so that they weeds grow back. Greene’s staff are all very well familiar with MO’s weeds and dirt types.

I liked this country store. It’s right next to the equestrian center, and it’s on my way to work so I see it every day. I finally went in looking for rabbit litter/food. I was really surprised at all the other items they offer. It’s a feed store so of course they have tons of animal feed, but they also have fresh local meats, fruits and veggies! They also have a small selection of organic snacks. I definitely want to go back for some fresh bacon!
