House Of Jerky

I can’t say I’m a connoisseur of jerky, but I do love a good dried packet of meat once in a while. I picked up a small packet of hot jerky and had it at the summit of Mt. Marcy… it was fantastic! A nice moist tender dried meat w/​a good amount of heat.
I also purchased the Ghost Pepper one and just now opened it. He gave the Hot a ⁵⁄₁₀ heat scale and this Ghost Pepper a 8÷10… I’d rate them both a little lower on the heat index for my palate. A ⁴⁄₁₀ and ⁶⁄₁₀ respectively. But still very tender, good jerky.
The prices were decent for premium jerky, but apparently the online prices are higher than at the store. The large bag of Ghost pepper was $ 16 and the smaller bag of hot was I think $ 6?
…I had no problem w/​him being open for business.

The House of Jerky sits on Main Street in the heart of Lake Placid. It appeared in Lake Placid a few years ago, and one day I decided to stop in. Wait. I couldn’t. The place wasn’t open. Here we were, Mid July after 5pm, deep in the peak season for tourists and I couldn’t even buy a bag of jerky until the next day 9 to 5 pm. Nice. You think they would modify their hours to take advantage of the crowds in Lake Placid during the summer months.
When I did stop back, they have baskets set up around the store with jerky in them. Each bag will run you about 8 dollars. Alligator, salmon, deer, elk, rattlesnake jerky and more is sold here. You can order gift baskets and have items shipped to your house if you do not have the room to bring it home with you. The stuff is nothing special. The spices on the jerky tasted just like the stuff I get at my local gas station.
None of it is made here. It’s all made in Indiana. So much for bringing home something that screams «I was in the Adirondacks!». Then again I’m sure every Uncle, Dad, and Grandpa will just be happy that you thought of them when you bring them home a souvenir regardless of where it is made.
On a side note they allow dogs in the store. They even give your dog a jerky treat a sign on the door said.
