I had heard mixed reviews, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from the ‘Dack Shack. But I was pleasantly surprised by the menu options and atmosphere. To be honest, the deciding factor in coming here was location. Trisha G. and I were staying at the hotel next door on our weekend hiking adventure to the High Peaks region… and after a 10 hour hike through the wind, fog, and rain, we had limited energy to scope out most of the town. But you know, this ended up being the perfect spot. It wasn’t overly crowded later in the evening(though there were plenty of patrons), and they had a wide choice of beverages to celebrate our hard work(I went with a ginger cider that hit the spot). The atmosphere was quirky, Adirondack chic. That’s a style I think I just made up… but it worked! I really liked the hardwood tables — quite beautiful actually. To accompany my cider, I decided on the udon noodle bowl with chicken. It came in a awesome fun shaped bowl, and was filled with noodles, fresh veggies, and a coconut curry sauce that I really enjoyed. I managed to thoroughly stuff myself, and hadn’t any room for dessert, but the dessert case was filled with delicious looking goodies I could have devoured given the stomach space. I’m sure I’ll be back in Lake Placid again to take another crack at Mt. Marcy, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I returned to the ‘Dack Shack! Stop in and check it out!

Cozy eatery with a relaxed Adk vibe, tasty and reasonably-priced food, friendly and efficient service, and a solid drink selection. My friend and I stopped by the ‘Dack Shack on a Saturday evening in June around 7pm and were seated right away at a cozy table for two. After hiking Mount Marcy earlier in the day, we were famished and quickly ordered our food and drinks. The draft beer, bottled beer, wine, and mixed drink menu offers a lot of variety with prices comparable to other eateries in Lake Placid. I enjoyed a Oberon Ale from Bell’s Brewery and my friend really liked her cider. For entrees, I ordered the veggie burger with fries and was impressed with an enormous pile of fries which were prepared exactly the way I like them. Yes, I ate them all after a long day of hiking! The veggie burger, as other reviewers noted, was a bit bland and dry and could use more seasoning, possibly another sauce, but it was also cooked well with a crispy exterior. My friend ordered a chicken soba noodle bowl and was satisfied with the flavors and mix of vegetable. Service at the ‘Dack Shack was friendly, efficient, and the décor of the restaurant was appealing with dark wooden tables, folk music playing in the background, and a rustic, Adirondack-themed décor. Overall, I’d recommend the ‘Dack Shack if you’re looking for decent food and a place to hangout, without the crowds or hype of other touristy restaurants in the area.

Great for what it is! Was looking for a more affordable lunch stop while staying in the area, and got a comfortable, happy environment with delicious food at fair prices. Best au jus with french fries I’ve had in a long time, and just what I was looking for for a nice, Adirondack-themed restaurant for lunch. Very friendly staff and good service. Desserts looked amazing too!

Bad service, soupy mac n cheese, soggy fries, bland hot dog and veggie burger. They have a great draught beer selection so I think happy hour would be worth it.

Fries were great as were the jerked chicken spring rolls we had. My wife got the Dack burger but did not go by the recommnedatiions and said it was only OK. My fried fish was great, but the surprise was the coleslaw accompanying it. pretty sure it was made in house. Incredible, could have made a meal of just that. We were seated very quickly for a Friday night and service was prompt, pleasant and fun. Now, one of our go to places in LP

Burgers had no seasoning at all. The buns was soggy and gummy. The fries were cooked pretty good. A little well done but I like them like that. First time in the area visiting. Def would not come back. Service was ok nothing earth shattering.

$ 3 for a shot of orange juice. Food was good just pricey and small portions. Service was slow as well, I would recommend going in a small group to speed up service. Otherwise a nice place to go for breakfast if you want to spend upwards of $ 20.

Same owners as the Big Mountain Deli and Creperie. We ate here late night, I had the best garden salad with Salmon ever. The maple balsamic dressing was to die for.

Went in for dinner on a cold, snowy night. Very impressed with the atmosphere and décor. Perfect blend of rustic and modern. We had duck croquettes as an app, burger, chicken and waffles, veggie burger, crab cake, kids mac ‘n cheese and large side of fries. All food was tasty and fresh. My only complaint is that the prices trend towards the higher side(would deduct half a star if I could). For the above mentioned food, plus 3 beers and a wine, it was over $ 100. A little steep, in my opinion, but I also don’t mind paying a little more for thoughtful, interesting food in a great setting. Service was friendly and attentive. Heard there is a good happy hour deal at the bar. Will have to try that next time.

Amazing blend of New American innovative cooking and classic standbys. Super kid friendly and the staff and service was terrific. I ordered the bbq short rib with sweet potato mash and chimmi churi relish. It was tough choosing between pot pie du jour and the venison sausage. Poutine for the table disappeared into our ski hungered gullets. A great selection of craft can/bottled and tap beers washed things down-Lost nation gose, Hennepin, ballast pt sculpin, Allagash white. After near meltdown the kids retreated to the side room with play kitchen and woodland playhouse. This place was just past the main strip heading out of town and the funky sign caught my eye, glad we checked it out.

So I can’t comment on the food because we actually couldn’t get any. Service here is worse than anywhere I’ve ever been. Very odd to be a paying customer at an empty bar begging to get a drink only to be totally ignored. Any place else in the country and this place would be out of business in no time.

If you’re looking for something around Lake Placid, but don’t want to deal with downtown parking, ‘Dack Shack may just be the perfect spot for you. Don’t stray from the only thing ‘Dack Shack knows how to make, and go for the burger and fries!

We came for Sunday morning breakfast/brunch at 11. Unfortunately, they stop serving breakfast at 11. The staff was incredibly nice and perhaps due to the sad faces of our breakfast crew, snuck in one last breakfast order! The food was wonderful! All freshly prepared with homemade hash browns(the shredded kind) and bread for toast. The star of the show was our son’s banana Nutella French toast, but everything was delicious. Will plan to come back when we’re in town!

Upon entering I was pleased with the atmosphere. My western omelette was pretty good and I really enjoyed the hash browns. Probably some of the better browns I’ve ever had. My little lady’s fruit dish had excellent presentation, and her English muffin was hearty and thick. We were happy with our experience.

As my boyfriend said upon getting his meal: «Now this is a hot dog!» And it was probably one the best hotdogs he’s ever had. This place mostly has burgers(also very good) and hotdogs, and a few sandwiches — but it’s pretty good for what it is. The fries are also really good! It has a lumberjack/Adirondack feel to it –the bar stools have flannel-plaid backs. Cost is ~ $ 10/person for main meal and drinks… But everything is priced separately — so fries are $ 4, burgers $ 7, hot dogs $ 4 and sides are $ 3 – 4.

Based on other reviews and our desire to support local businesses, we chose Dack for lunch. Long wait for gloppy soup and way overpriced, underwhelming chili. Faintly sweet, disappointing. Too bad.

Wow. Awesome menu and the cooking to back it up. Heard great things about this newly opened restaurant and was not disappointed. We started with lobster shrimp fritters. Then we tried the coconut shrimp that came with 2 dipping sauces that were delicious. Entrees– I had strip steak with chimmichurri over mashed sweet potatoes. Loved it. He had the mahimahi tacos with a ginger soy sauce. Can’t wait for the leftovers tomorrow. We will definitely be back

Went for breakfast. The corned beef hash was very good and homemade. The stuffed french toast was not stuffed at all and just topping on top of 2 slices. Egg muffin sandwich was also good. The bacon maple donut holes were the highlight. Overall the portions were very small for the prices being charged. This breakfast for 3 was the most expensive meal we had during our trip to Lake Placid.

I know this place just opened but we have already been twice… once on Saturday for lunch and then again for dinner tonight. The menu is great but I have to say some of the staff still need some training but trust me the food is worth it! So for lunch you can get out of here pretty inexpensive but really yummy — the kids meals are yummy and homemade and not stupid expensive and the fries, you have to get the truffle mayo, so good! The salads were great — maple vinaigrette just the right amount of sweet! Hubby really loved the burger and not crazy huge! Service at Lunch Saturday we had woman in her 40s who was on her game, though the kitchen got slammed(the place was packed) but she kept checking on us and did give us a heads up! Dinner service tonight is why I can’t give it 5 star — we asked for the kids meals to come out ahead with a salad and the kids meals took forever(a hot dog and Mac n cheese — really good homemade) and we had to flag down the waiter multiple times to ask and also to get another drink. The salad finally ce out with the adult meals but the server didn’t come check on is and I was looking for another drink, I had to flag him down again but he seemed receptive to our feedback! Food was amazing, not a single complaint about flavor, presentation, sizes matched the price and the manager/owner did come over and really wanted to hear our feedback and clearly she said something to him cause his followup got better! He made the #1 mistake untrained staff make though — when you drop the check make sure to come to the table to snag a few things cause a table looking to leave will quickly put credit cards in oh and always send the original check back so they can see the totals again! Will definitely try them again for dinner when we come back, hope we get the lady from Lunch at Dinnertime, wish we got her name!
