Just ordered an apple pie and it was delicious! Crisp apples, delicious crust, and not too sweet. The perfect pie.

Pizazz Sweets has closed their storefront but they still are in business! I guess retail space is too pricey to make it feasible. You can still order the delicious baked goods from her Lake Oswego bakery by either calling 503−680−0036 or emailing , and they will deliver them to your doorstep. Check the website for more details. Not as convenient for a drop-in, drive-by cupcake, but if you’re planning a party, this will still work.

Over the years, Pizazz has been a tiny coffee shop, another tiny coffee shop, a tiny office once, and now a tiny cupcake shop. I was grabbing my dogs from Groomingdales next door(go there) and enjoyed some samples, then enjoyed three mini cupcakes and a brownie. The owner was there and she is super nice as was the lady working behind the counter. Prices are great, cupcakes were moist and delicious. Even the vegan chocolate. Right, They have vegan cupcakes. I am mere minutes away from heading over for another round.

I was surprised how tiny Pizazz Sweets is. As was said before, two’s a crowd, but they ply you with generous samples, so that is soon overlooked. The idea that I can choose the flavor of frosting on my cupcake is very cool, makes it interactive and thus more fun. I was hoping for a bigger, or shall I say, more inspired variety of frosting flavors, but they had all the usual suspects, chocolate, vanilla, cream cheese, and coffee, plus coconut. There may have been another flavor, but it was either too mundane to remember, or my mind is playing tricks on me. So, ever since I had a piece of chocolate cake that knocked my socks off and into the next state some months ago, I have been hunting for chocolate cake/cupcake/recipe that comes close. This is a big deal for me, ’cause I like chocolate, and I like cake, but put a lemon bar next to chocolate cake, 9 times I’ll take the lemon. So thats how good that cake was and why it haunts my dreams. So the Chocolate-orange cupcake at Pizazz, is honestly the closest chocolate cake I’ve found in my six months of searching. It was dark chocolate, moist, and just lightly sweetened, leaving the sweet talk mostly up to the frosting. I chose chocolate frosting, trying to mimic the epic cake of past, and it was pretty on point. Sweet but no too sweet. Intensely chocolate. My only criticism would be that the powdered sugar in the frosting still had a bit of grit to it. The cupcake was a giant masterpiece, double the other cupcakes found around town, all adding up to a transcendent cupcake experience. Yes, that is what tipped the scale from an awesome four to an outrageous five!

I have to admit that I am kind of sweet on this place. But, the parking situation can be a complete cluster in this mini-strip mall. Between the adjoining gas station, popular Mexican restaurant and one-way parking lots on either side, it makes visiting a hit or miss proposition during lunch hours. The shop is miniscule and two customers is a crowd. What differentiates Pizazz from their local cupcake competitors is the design your own concept. They have a handful of cupcake flavors on a daily basis and you mix and match with the available frosting options. So they make your cupcake on request. This is a good and bad thing, because due to the rotation, a particular combination you have in mind may not be available that day. But, I’ve been pretty lucky trying new things here too. On my most recent visit, and after a taste test, I tried the piña colada cupcake(wonderfully rummy) with coconut frosting. Never had that combination before and it was lovely. I’ve also had good luck with their red velvet and chocolate cupcakes. They participate in the Perka rewards program which is just starting up in our area. Basically an on-line check-in system rather than carrying a punch card to earn rewards. They also regularly have coupons in our local shopping guides. And as an extra treat, they serve illy coffee drinks. I would give the edge to Wrightberry’s in Oregon City for overall enjoyment, but Pizazz is a sweet little spot for the cupcake lover in Tualatin.
