Terrible experience. We HAD an M&T Bank mortgage to begin with, and we refinanced to get cash out for home improvements. It took more than two months and we had to keep contacting them to see where things stood. They asked for the payoff figures of the credit cards we were paying off, then they paid different amounts than what I had given them, which means we have to dick around with paying off other balances and getting refunds from the credit card companies. We signed our papers on May 27, but M&T went ahead and took out the June 1 payment for our OLD loan. Our loan officer Jill reassured us TWICE that we would be skipping our July 1 payment, and now we have received a bill for it. They say there is now nothing they can do about it.
If you want a good mortgage experience, DO NOT USE M&T BANK!

Original paperwork for a refinance submitted in early June 2013. Because they did not read all the information I submitted the loan process took 2 months, during which I had some home emergencies which meant I had to use some credit. This caused the loan rate to increase by a full point AND my credit score to dip just below the next cut off. This resulted in a 1 point addition to my fees.
Even their appraiser was off the mark for other homes in my area.
I will never do business with this company again, nor will I recommend them to anyone for real estate loans.
