Right off the bat, the guy who runs the place seems nice and very knowledgeable, and if you’re looking to go through loosely organized crates on the floor, you’re probably going to like Broadway Records more than I did. From the outside, Broadway Records looks reasonably large — possibly even«big» if you can go upstairs. Inside, though, it’s the smallest record store I’ve ever been to. When you enter, the layout is like a house, where you’re walking in to the living room, there’s a bedroom off to one side, a large walk-in closet next to it, and a hallway just past the closet. In context, that bedroom is a room that contains many crates of 45’s in various states. Some have sleeves, some don’t. Some look new, some don’t look worth keeping. They’re organized in to genres like«70’s /80’s Rock» which seems to mean«not country, jazz, or a soundtrack». In the closet, you’ll find the records. If you’re lucky(as I was), you’ll be the only one there, because you can’t fit more than two very considerate people in that space. A bit broader than the 45’s, you have 70’s /80’s Rock, Soundtracks, Jazz, Vocal Jazz, Classical, Comedy, and a couple of other less memorable categories. There’s a 1:1 table-to-floor ratio of crates, though as one would expect, the better stuff is on top. Off to the hallway area is a mix of VHS, DVD, and something I haven’t seen in over 30 years: SelectaVision discs. Whoa. Major flashback. Past the movies, there were some used CD’s. Back to the other side near the entrance, some cassettes and 8-tracks. To be honest, I’m really torn about the place. I think I get what the owner is going for, and I want to support indie record stores as best I can. On the things I checked out, pricing was really very good. On the other hand, my record collection spans the late 50’s to 2014 in multiple genres, and I had a hard time finding something to buy. At first, I was concerned about the«Cash Only» sign inside, but that ended up not being a huge problem. Stop by if you’re already in the area, but I wouldn’t recommend making much effort to get here.

I’ve been shopping here since the late 80s and I always make sure to stop in every time I’m in town. I’d say about 80% of my vinyl collection came from here. They carry all the essentials and have even found some rare gems. Everything’s fairly priced. They carry everything from rock, jazz, blues, metal, punk, soul and everything else in between. This is a great place if you’re either just starting your collection or are an avid collector.
