I used an expired groupon there and the terms agreed by Groupon, owner and diner is that the value of Groupon never expires. On arrival I told them I’d be using an expired Groupon, hostess seats me and advises me «Jack» would explain how it worked, and I assumed it would be the standard you get the value you paid. The man sits after I’ve place order, states he is going to have to only honor 20. 00 of the paid 29.00 but he’d let me use Groupon. Not cool! By rules he had no choice but to give 29.00 as paid and he deemed to make his own rules and take 9.00 from me and I paid full menu price. I reported him to Groupon and it’s under arbitration now. I sent pictures of the check and have copies of check and credit card receipt. It is highly unlikely that I’d return or patronize this place. This occurred on a Tuesday and it was not even busy. These are the facts as it happened, you may wish to consider his practice in this matter before you eat there. Buying Groupons does not mean your cheap or should be mistreated by the establishment. Caveat Emportium !

This was our first time here and it was ok. My husband and I love to go out to eat, so we are restaurant connoisseurs(we would like to think) and have eaten all over the U.S. First, the host was very sweet. Our server, very sweet and attentive to anything we needed. We had the scallops and some other bacon wrapped shrimp app, scallops were great, shrimp app had no shrimp in it, if it did it was very small. So that wasn’t worth the money. My husband had the ribeye, although it was cooked correctly, it was very thin w a sweet taste we did not care for. U honestly can get a better steak for a better price at Texas Roadhouse. Definitely not worth the money there. I had a Parmasean crusted snapper topped w crabmeat. That was definitely worth it. Very, very good. They did a wonderful job on that dish. We also had the clam chowder. All that was, was potato soup w a few clams mixed in. Wasn’t impressed w that. Overpriced for that. So, service was good, food, half was good, but overpriced for the quality. We also had another server from another table keep bumping our chair w no apologies. But we just grinned and bared it as we were critiquing. This place is nice, but I would go w a Groupon or some discount. I guess they think since they are right on the lake they can charge so much, but honestly, there really isn’t another place like it around. So, they may be right.

I took my mother here as a surprise when we were spending a day together. I knew it was pricey but thought it would be worth the money. The experience was horrible. The worst part is that I said something before we left and they just responded ok. I then went to their website and sent an email. Nobody ever responded to the email. I made a copy of the email and mailed it to them. Nobody responded to the letter. I will never go here again.

Pricey but delicious! Nice warm feeling. The owner acted as the host and personally took us to our table and made several trips through the restaurant to check on us. My husband had lobster bisque and lamb. It was perfect. The snapper was a bit bland but the chocolate molten cake was amazing!

Me, a good Freind, and our two 20 year old sons came up today for the Chiefs game. We had one of the best meals ever. Two of us had the filet Oscar, and the other two had filet delmar. All were excellent and cooked to perfection. Clam chowder was the best ever, lobster bisque was unbelievable. The whole meal was amazing, service was spot on. Ambiance was great. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t mind paying a little more for for an outstanding experience. Great drinks, and bread pudding, we could hardly walk when we came out, forgot to mention we also had two lobster tails, also top notch. Try this place you won’t be sorry

I stopped in around 515PM mid week. Manhattan came without cherries(minor detail easily corrected) — wine bottles half price on Wednesday! Lobster and filet were excellent — service top notch. I enjoyed it. I read the previous reviews and maybe service is hit or miss. I’ll go back — bit of a hike from mid town !

TERRIBLE Service! We went to the Marina Grog & Galley for a nice dinner by the lake. Unfortunately, we never got to have our nice dinner. We arrived early before our reservation and asked if we could go to the bar. When we were trying to determine if one of the seats was open, the bartender«Joe» said, «someone is sitting there.» So we sat in the last 2 open seats at the bar. The bar where we sat was covered in bottles. Joe never moved those. Finally after sitting there with no acknowledgement, Joe came and said«Do you know what you want?» He never gave us a menu, let alone greet us, so of course we did not know what we wanted to order! We found the service quite rude, but decided to enjoy our drinks. We were alerted that our table was ready, so we went to the front to be seated. Jack — who we later learned was the owner, took us to our seat outside. We brought our drinks with us. We were placed at the very end near where the service prep area was situated. There were people at other tables around us. Someone came and filled our water, but never said a word. No «Hello,» or «Your server is X and they will be with you in a moment.» We watched people come by, but no one would acknowledge us. We asked asked a gal who kept passing us if she was our server and she said she was not, and believed a guy named Jake was. She would send him to our table she said. More time went by and Jake continued to pass us but never looked at us once. After being ignored for a good 12 minutes, I went to the front to ask for help from the hostess. She was a bit patronizing to me as I described our experience at the bar and stated that we still had yet to be greeted by a server. She said she would go get help. I returned to the table and found the hostess already there, she had grabbed Jake who still never apologized, but instead said there was confusion on which server our table belonged to. My boyfriend put in a order for an appetizer. More time passed, but Jake didn’t make eye contact with us despite us having our menus pushed to the side, signaling we were ready to order. Jake finally did come back and asked if we were ready to order. At this point we were considering leaving so we told him to give us a moment. He said he’d be back in a minute. That minute became another 10 — we started a timer. He passed us several times, no contact made at all. It’s like we were invisible. So we got up and left. Folks around us asked what was going on and we told them we were leaving because we couldn’t get any service. Upon leaving we went back in to tell the hostess we were leaving, and she said, «Did Jack(the owner) not come out and talk to you?» No he had not. I then asked to speak to him right away. I told him about our poor and rude service and while he was somewhat apologetic, he made excuses for the server Jake who he said got«tunnel vision when he gets busy,» but never addressed the rudeness of Joe. He threw up his hands several times instead of saying, «this is unacceptable and I will handle this!» He made no indication that he was going to talk to his staff. He offered to move us inside and have dinner on him, but we were worried of backlash from the kitchen staff, so we declined and said, «perhaps another time.» He never offered us a gift certificate. After sharing our experience with my boyfriend’s parents and others, we learned that this is quite common now at the Marina. So much for good service at a restaurant where you will easily spend $ 50 – 60 a person.

Food is barely fair, many menu items area no longer made, very high prices for the poor quality and the 1970’s décor, will not go back. Service was lacking as well and took forever to get refills(had to ask multiple times). Owner came by the table, very arrogant.

Your jaw will drop, they fly it in fresh. Missouri and seafood may shock you like an eel in your pocket. if you have the need for seafood, they will take your hand and lead you into fresh palate changes. or a fresh and simple sauté. the view is a perfect wide open lake view. the restaurant its self is classy and understated. need a family photo or a place to pop the question.

Almost an hour drive from Kansas City, KS. The atmosphere and the great service compensated for the lack of taste for some of the appetizers we got. The calamari sticks were delicious and cooked to perfection, The crab dip I will pass next time. Nothing special and the mussels were a bit dry and again was lacking in flavor. The Caesar salad great presentation — you are given half of the heart of romaine with homemade Caesars dressing. We got the snapper– great portion and was tasty. We also got the steak del mar and Hawaiian Luau. Both were tasty and the latter was presented in a carved pineapple with black sticky rice which was succulent. The prices even though we got the 4-course meal special was still a bit pricey. For 4 people we spent over $ 300 including tip and we only had three cocktails. Will definitely be back for the ambience and this is better seafood found anywhere else in KC.

Let me start by saying this was almost a four star review and one bad moment can spoil the whole meal. We met two other couples for a date night meal. Kudos to the staff for allowing us all to use our Groupon and still sit at the same table. There might have been a fight otherwise because we called ahead to make sure it was allowed while making reservations.(Only two allowed per table) The evening was cool and overcast. Two couples arrived early enough to order happy hour drinks and sat fireside on the patio. Despite the weather, being lakeside was beautiful and we watched as many prom couples arrived for dinner. Once inside we had a great table near the windows and our server was stealthy, effective, and nonintrusive. Here’s the goods on the drinks and food: Sangria was applauded all around. Good option. Mojito was light and lovely, mixed perfectly. Blue Moon was the beer of choice all evening. Appetizers included crab cakes and shrimp cocktail. These were good but you would expect that for the price and location. Everything was appropriately sized and prepared well. Meals: Lambchops with green beans and mashed potatoes.(see photo) Two of the men in our group always order this dish when we visit MGG. They rave about the flavor and you should hear the«mmmmm» noises coming from them while they eat. Chicken and Lobster Roulade with green beans and mashed sweet potatoes(see photo). One person ordered this with a baked potato. Both individuals seemed to be okay with their meal choice but there were no enthusiastic eating sounds coming from their direction. I would say it was okay. Filet Oscar which comes with asparagus and I added a baked potato. I never touched that potato now that I think about it. My steak was cooked medium rare, perfectly tender and outstanding with the crab topping. It was a little oily but it didn’t feel heavy. It tasted wonderful. One person also ordered a seafood casserole of some sort and he was more than thrilled with his selection. Desserts ordered: Crème Brulee of course! This is my all time favorite dessert. My friend and I both ordered this item. As we began dipping into the dessert, we realized there was a large quality difference between hers and mine. She had a light sugar glass top and mine was thick and bordering on extremely burnt. When I cracked it to take the first bite, sugar granules went flying through the air. It appeared they may have placed too much sugar and just tried to cover it up by torching it. The strawberry was actually placed over a very dark portion of the sugar glass top. I did mention this is my favorite right? I sent it back. I rarely send things back and I just had to do it with this wreck of a crème brûlée. They quickly remade a new dessert and it was as it should be. There is nothing special about this crème brûlée, I’ve certainly had better. Banana Bread Pudding with Coconut Rum Sauce(see photo)…now this was the gem of the night! The rum sauce is incredible. One table member said, «Can I just drink the sauce?» Individuals who are not fans of traditional bread pudding enjoyed their bites as much as the rest of us dessert enthusiasts! A must try! I would refer people to this restaurant for an upscale meal with a view but I would 100% tell them only to go if they are using a groupon. It would not be worth the price otherwise. Too many other places to visit and spend well earned cash for a masterpiece meal.

I’ll start with the best part… terrific view. Other than that, I have nothing nice to say. From the rude hostess at the front last Friday to the overpriced and overhyped menu, we will not return.

We had our first visit here in February 2015. The food was amazing and the drinks yummy! Our service was wonderful! I’d like to say that great service is a given, but, this day in age, it’s really not. Our waitress was knowledge, friendly, and attentive!

My family used to go to this restaurant all the time for special occasions. Beautiful atmosphere and dining area. But the prices kept going up, and the food quality kept going down. They used to have fresh green beans, now they look canned. Salads used to be all mixed greens and now it’s iceberg, romaine and mixed greens. So they increased prices and decreased food quality. Also the last couple times I went the owner was not friendly. My friend and I were there for happy hour on the patio during the summer and waited 20 min for our check after we were done eating and drinking, complained to the manager and he acted like it was no big deal and we were an inconvenience for telling him. Needless to say, I have no reason to ever go back to this overpriced, overhyped restaurant.

We have been here a couple times. Great atmosphere, could use a little update. Food was wonderful and the service was superb. It was exactly what you look for in fine dining. Our drinks were served, we ordered an appetizer which we got in a very timely manner, the salads came after the appetizer was finished and cleared, then our entrée with vegetable was served after the salads were finished and removed. It is frustrating for me when food overlaps and you end up with numerous plates with food crowding the table. Marina Grog and Galley got it right in my opinion.

The food was over priced and the quality of my food was poor. However the others in my party were happy with theirs. The service was only hit or miss, I mean does it really take 4 trips by the server to bring a cup of hot tea? The atmosphere sitting on the patio was very pleasant but this place will NOT be on our return list. It could be so much more. Too bad

You must sit on water to get full experience. Even better, get a drink from bar and sit on deck side. Drinks were tasty a bit or expensive for area. Pappadews were great. The duck was food — order super rare. Mine was medium despite rare order. Chocolate molten was superb. Great for KC area. Wish they did online open table — you have to call for reservation. It’s not cheap, be ready, but includes salads and sides.

I really like dining here. I used an expired Groupon. When we first came in, there was no one at reception but I think it had just opened. We came right after the opera and they don’t open until 5:00p.m. I started to walk into the Dining Room and the Maître d’ or receptionist came and greeted us. He was friendly enough but another fellow came and actually got our table. He was kind of preoccupied and seemed hesitant about us at first. I don’t think I cared for that attitude but I let it slide. He seated us and told us our server would be with us momentarily. Our server seemed uncomfortable with us at first. Maybe he was just shy. He did warm up a bit after a while. Some places do have a problem with same-sex couples and I’m wondering if this wasn’t part of it because we do get that in certain parts of town. At any rate, I ordered the Pepperdew hors d’oeuvres. Little sweet South African peppers stuffed with shrimp and wrapped in bacon. They were a bit over cooked but they were still delicious. I had the chicken lobster tail roulade and it was superb with a white wine garlic cream sauce with a baked potato. Green beans were served and although they were tasty, they were almost boiled to mush. My partner had the baby back ribs and there was a generous portion and they were very good. The ambience was nice. The view of the lake was beautiful. The dining room was quiet enough but everyone seemed to be enjoying the soft music, the food and the service. Overall, it was a good experience. A bit pricey, but it was a special occasion. I would love to come back in late spring, summer or early fall and dine outside. I think that would really be nice. I’m sorry to see the negative comments. I hope whatever has been wrong, gets turned around because I would hate to see this nice place go under.

We went back to Marina Grog & Galley last night and my level of disappointment is through the roof with this place. I absolutely loved this place before and now I will not be back unless I’m forced to. First of all, my in laws had a groupon and wanted to go with us(we had one as well). We noticed it said one groupon per table in the fine print, so since we were paying separately, we called to make sure this would be okay. I’ve never experience someone so rude to me that answers the phone for a business. They explained that they would not allow us to set together, even if we were paying separate. I tried to explain to them that we would be taking up another table, costing them business, but they refused. So, we had to do two tables… ridiculous, but okay. The owner and the hostess constantly came by and glared at us, it seemed like every time I looked up the hostess was staring *so weird*. Btw… there were only about 10 cars in the parking lot and the place was dead. I ordered the exact same thing I did last time I came… except…the juicy scallops of heaven were overcooked and dry. Actually, everything was overcooked and not good. That was enough strikes for me to realize this restaurant was just crashing hard. We overheard them tell someone(at 7:45 pm) they were the last table they would be seating that night. The one positive thing I can say was our waiter was very nice and even laughed with us on how ridiculous the whole thing was. As we were about to leave, another group of 4 had to do the same thing as us… I guess it’s a good thing they weren’t busy since they insist on wasting so many tables when the money would work out the same if we were sitting at the same table or not. This experience makes me think the owner is trying to close the restaurant… but if that was the case, you would think he would sell it before he runs it into the ground. $ 126 would’ve been our total… no where near worth it.
