We were really looking forward to going to the new Wakefield’s. We should have known when we pulled up at 6:30 on a Thursday night in Aug., and we were the only couple there! 0nly one other couple had dinner in the 2 hours we were there. It was overpriced and the food was maybe a C-. I ordered a glass of ice tea, and coildn’t drink it, it was so strong and old tasting. My husband’s second glass of wine didn’t come until his main course was done. When our waitress brought the wine, she also brought our check, never even asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. For $ 125(not including the tip), it was a real disappointment. The view was an A+.

I recently made a reservation for four of us for dinner. The people we ate out with are picky so I was hoping Wakefield would come through. They did and then some. From fresh warm bread to delicious crisp salads excellent fish and great wines(not over the top in price) The choices for dessert were nice and hard to choose one. We all left quite content and talking about coming back Saw a rating for 2 stars from someone else and was surprised. I thought the food was quite good and consistent. Will go back again over the next two months and review again at that time.

The bottom line is that this restaurant is very overpriced, which ruined our meal. We are from Chicago, so I do have to take into account that this is a whole different area and perhaps this is considered fine dining here. I do not mind paying for an excellent meal and dining experience, but for $ 110 for two people I expect to be impressed. I got the grilled salmon, which was very good, not great. The salad before was delicious and was paired with a very interesting blood orange dressing. We also got the calamari and it was some of the best calamari we have had in the past year. My husband had the strip steak and he did not enjoy his meal at all, not to mention it was way too large of a portion and it had some tasteless potato/cheese side underneath. The wine was really good, I got the only merlot available by the glass and it was very enjoyable. I did have to wipe the dust off the inside of the glass with my napkin before drinking my wine, which is just the oversite that should not happen with a fine dining restaurant. The bread rolls were a bit on the stale side and we only got three small rolls for two people and were not offered more. I got a chocolate torte dessert that was not very good, I did not finish it, on the bright side it was very pretty. The décor was dusty and very gramma’s attic. The carpet needs to go, hardwood flooring would be much more modern and would help update the whole place and make it feel less moldy. The service was good, we had a really friendly waitress who was attentive. The view was the best part, we watched the sun set over the lake while we ate. We paid $ 110 for a $ 60 meal, that is the main problem. No wonder we were the only people in entire restaurant.
