The Crown Ace Hardware in Lake Forest is outstanding with the customer service and selection. The convenience of a neighborhood store is a plus, but they have the things I need that the big box stores don’t have and competitively priced. Their knowledgeable staff provided me options that have saved me money and made my projects simpler to accomplish. Last week I went to the «large discount store» to find rollers for a kitchen drawer. They did not have what I needed, but Ace Hardware had the rollers and the staff to enabling me to find what was needed to complete the job. I’m amazed that a smaller convenient store consistently has what I need that a big box store does not stock with better customer service. This store provides 5 star service, selection, and competitive prices.

Not only do they have a great selection, the customer service is awesome. I can walk in not having a clue, and after some explanation and some good laughs, walk out confident that I have the right things, and I’ll know how to use them when I get home. Love it!

I went there to get a key cut. It was for my desk drawer and none of the standard keys were a match. Dan was awesome and found a key that was fairly close and worked on it manually to make it match. It works perfectly. They also gave me great advice when I was looking something to get rid of an ant problem. I left it out and after a few days I haven’t seen ants since.

This particular Ace Hardware is our favorite, the staff is always so helpful when we need assistance especially Harry and Dan. They offer personal service unlike the big warehouse stores!

This is my #1 place to go to get keys made. They have never failed me with what I need. What Home Depot didn’t have, they did. I also needed a motorcycle key made and the local and even bigger distant moto shops couldn’t help me. Went to ACE and they were able to find and make me a key that works great.
The staff is always eager to offer help. I usually never make it past the front counter before I am greeted and offered help.

Customer service in store was horrible this afternoon. Employee with white hair was not very helpful. I asked for some shower/​bath. Cleaner that I saw advertised on TV – he asked me if. I Knew the name. I didn’t and he offered nothing else, I then where the bathroom cleaners were. He directed me there, and I found what I wanted, he did mention I would get 20% off. Then he walks a and looks at his watch. Maybe it was close to quitting to quitting time. It was about 5;00pm. I left that store in a sour note.

Great service here. I was on a mission to find some miscellaneous replacement items to match the OEM parts on my motorcycle and as soon as I walked in I was offered help. The employee by the name of Harry assisted me with finding the parts that I needed and ensured that the items were up to par for their purpose very quickly and easily.
Will come definitely come again.

I walked in the store, looking for 3 specific things. I asked a female behind the counter where the first item was located. Barely looking up, she gave me 2 aisle numbers that it may be on. Needless to say, it wasn’t on either. Sigh. Then I saw Dan (found out his name when I commented abt his helpfulness to cashier). I asked him abt the first item, he STOPPED what he was doing and walked me over to what I wanted, asking me what it was for so he could recommend the best product! It was that easy. Second item, asked abt project, boom, in my hand. Third, same thing! I have NEVER experienced customer service like that from a hardware store (which, sorry to say, are notoriously bad bc of Home Depot and their lack of help. ghost town!) or really any store. He was friendly, talkative, helpful, knowledgeable and seemed like he really wanted me to get the best product for the job! Most places, they really don’t seem to care much. If I owned a business, this is the kind of employee I would want! Dan for Manager! Oh, not voting on that? Too bad.

The manager contacted me immediately after my post. I really appreciated her concern and wanting to make the event right. I was offered a certificate for future purchase.
The fact that she acted with sincerity was a class act. I will continue to frequent this business.

Just wanted to take a moment to say the staff has been very helpful to my wife and I. We came here looking for paint and had many questions. Harry was super friendly and very knowledgable and have us tips. Joe was also very friendly and helpful as well. It’s service like this that will keep my wife and I coming back.

Ok, it’s a hardware store and it’s not like there’s a lot to put in a review… so what could someone possibly say about a hardware store to help out other Unilocalers ?
#1 They have all kinds of small screws and specialty fittings that Lowes and Home Depot don’t even come close to having. If I need some special nut, bolt, screw, etc… this is my go to place. Especially for eCig small screws
#2 The staff there know their store. If you ask them about something they know if they have it, where it is, and can answer questions about it. Something the big box guys lost a long time ago.
#3 The prices are reasonable and on par with the big guys.
If I need lumber or something really big for my home projects I usually go to Home Depot, but if I need something small, something special, need some good answers to help me out… this is my place. I suggest you give them a try next time you need something hardware related.

I have been trying to assemble a file cabinet. Eight of the screws seem too small. I went to Ace with the intention of buying eight screws that are a bit larger than what I have. The employee with a beard (darn! I didn’t get his name) was so nice. He asked me questions to make sure he understood what I was talking about. He looked at the screws that I brought in. Then he told me that the screws I had seems right and showed me what the assembly instructions was referring to. He said I didn’t need to toss the ones that came with it and buy new ones. He was so knowledgable and honest. I ended up leaving without buying screws that I did not need. I will definitely be back for diy projects!

Wow! Don’t call here! Called to see if they carried a specific type of screw drivers and he forgot what I asked for, put me on hold multiple times and once again forgot what we were talking about. I hope for their sake their in person customer service is better then their over the phone.

Called in asking for a GE filter for my refridgetator. Initial girl transfered me to some guy and I asked again do you have a GE water filter. His response was I have a couple and that was it. I had to ask if he had a certs in model #. He said he didn’t and when I thanked him he just hung up. No thank you no sorry just a click. Never again ACE you lost my business.

Not really an update, more of a reflection. In fact after leaving the store I remembered seeing quite a phenomenal selection of items. Although the quantity is more lower, I appreciate the variety of the specialty products that they carried. I will definitely be going back for special projects and every day conveniences.
Some say thank you for your business, I say thank you for being in business. :-)

The staff is always super helpful and more than willing to help answer questions. It’s common for several employees to approach me to see if I need any help. They always have a smile and they are willing to help me find whatever I need personally — not just be sending me to the aisle but they physically walk me to the aisle and show me various options.
Prices are always a bit higher than the big hardware stores but for the convenience and helpful service, I often go to Ace.

I come here because they carry a particular type of furniture bees wax stain that I use for my business. I like the hardware store, the place you went before all the big stores came out. You can find things that the big two dont have. Now I know more about repairs and building than most employees at any store of this type.
What I can’t stand is… when people ask if I need help and then act like your inconveniencing them. What is the attitude about? Then I usaully have to help them help me! Every employee I have ever encountered there seems grumpy or is an
18 year old kid that doesnt know enough to be helpful. O yea. lets not forget the closers who give you a countdown — heaven forbid they stay open 2 minutes past closing when im droppin $ 100 bill on a Wednesday night.
Your in customer service, if your having a bad day, fake it and be polite. Its not my fault your not aplying your knowledge in the field and making a lot more money or whatever your discontent might be…

Seriously, these people are AWESOME. I’m always happy here, be it picking out staples for stereo cables, getting an air filter or picking up some spackel.
Forget the big Home Depot or Lowe’s where you can never find anyone and when you do they’re overworked and underpaid, this place is where to go.
Because you get the sense these guys actually enjoy their work and actually care.
